Yes. I have been saying it for years. Fisher is very good, however, he is losing his step. Farmar is ok but may be destend to be a backup forever. A solid point guard to replace Fisher would put this team into possibly legendary status. If they could resign Odom and get a better point guard, they would possibly be in contention to win for like 3 or 4 years.

Yeah, should invest in one right now, and develop him until Fisher’s done..

But hell, when you have a guy named Kobe Bryant in the backcourt, your PG doesnt have to be a superstar..

Fisher is in the last year of his contract, so this should be his last hurrah. Farmar and and Brown can both do a serveiceable job. The trinagle offense does not require a typical pg who creates offense. Bryant, Artest, and Odom ,if he resigns, will innitaite the offense as much as anyone. The Lakers are already over the cap, so they don’t have a lot of money to spend at the pg spot. And lets give Farmar a chance to start before we write him off, he was terrific 2 years ago and did great in the one playoff game he started this past playoffs against Houston. He is a pg who plays his best when he can be aggressive, and he has had such a short leash it has been hard for him to get into a rythim.

The only thing I am not high on about Farmar’s game is his defence. He just doesnt commit to it. Otherwise, he is decent.

I think the Lakers would be wise to develop Shannon Brown as their PG of the future. He has everything Farmar has except more strength and athleticism. I like him and he outperformed Fisher and Farmar from what I saw in the playoffs.

I could see Brown passing Farmar as the pg of the future. But one thing Farmar has a huge advantage in is ball handling. Brown does not push it up the court well and does not brake down defenses well in the half court unless it is just one dribble and exploding to the basket. Farmar started the game aginst Houston after Fisher got suspended for going all NFL Blitz on scola, and Farmar came out and had like 14 and 6 in a victory while playing solid D. I would put him ahead of Brown at this point.

True, but he has improved his handle alot. When he 1st came to Michigan State he could only dribble twice without losing the ball, when he broke out his Jr yr he was a threat to create for himself as a perimeter shooter and slasher, and now he can handle the ball alot better than in college, so I think he is constantly improving every aspect of his game. He has a nice shot now as well, but when he came to Michigan State he wasnt a good shooter at all. He has upside..

He does have more upside than Farmar with that athetiscm. I did noticed last year he was hitting the 3 a lot more often too. Farmar is a little more natural at the point because he played it most of his life and in college. Brown is nipping at his heels though. I like Brown stealing that spot from him as the season goes.

Kobe can bring it up when they pressure.That system is not based on dribble penetration more so on overall team passing and cutting.

I don’t know like somone stated earlier the triangle really doesn’t need a great point guard. They just need a tough defender who will knock down the open looks he gets I really thought tony douglas would of been perfect for this role but was traded when we drafted him.

They could certainly use an upgrade at that position but don’t need a prototypical poinguard in the triangle offense. Someone who could handle the ball, hit the open shot, pass and play solid defense. Player doesn’t have to be a superstar, just solid.
