jaycee24ParticipantJosh Smith was a bad fit yes and he played horribly while in Detroit. He’s a PF that was asked to be a top offensive option at SF. Not making excuses because there were times he played with no effort and no sensibility HOWEVER he was a leader for that team and was a professional from the time he came to Detroit through him being waived this Christmas so to hear the boos for him every time he touched the ball was sickening to me. I didn’t expect a warm welcome but the hate for Smith was totally classless and unecessary…I’ve been a die hard fan since Stackhouse was our main scorer and Chucky Atkins was our PG through the 2004 glory team through the AI Ben Gordon Charlie V debacle and still am today. Being a Michigan native I can say there has been LITTLE to NONE as far as fan support for Detorit over the last 6-8 years and reasnably so. Who can really support a team with nothing but low mediocrity to show for it year in and year out? People forgot about the Pistons(which is suprising because people sure know how to support the Lions) but suddenly they win a few games and NOW the Pistons "fans" are coming out of the woodworks, the same ones who ignorantly bashed the team and rooted for the Heat and the Lakers and Boston and OKC and the Knicks while the team who had won a title just a few years before was down. Now it is nice to see the Palace much fuller than recent memory but I can’t help but think it’s really packed in half with front runner fans who have no emotional tiirees with the Pistons still. It really is fan base with litle passion but the one time the fans get fired up it’s to boo Josh Smith….total garbage. If the fans knew anything about the franchise they’d know Joe Dumars is the one who’s set them back with his decisions….Josh Smith just signed on the dotted line and came to play. I just wish the fan base had more passion for the team because as a real fan I hated that display from the crowd last night.

ReactionParticipantI was at the game last night and I was actually really disappointed and embarrassed with the "booing" of Josh Smith. Every time he touched the ball, he was booed. Don’t get me wrong.. I don’t like Josh Smith as a player at all, but no one deserves to get booed like that that badly.

Scrooge McDuckParticipantDetroit is a blue collar city. Smith didn’t show up for them. How do you expect them to feel?

ReactionParticipantThere’s a thing called having "class." As a die hard Pistons, it was embarrassing as a fan to see that regardless of how he performed here.

King CaluchaParticipantI don’t understand all the fuzz about this. I would feel sorry if they were playing for free.

JCliff24ParticipantIt seems people are so quick to boo these days. Before Dion Waiters was traded he was giving the biggest defensive effort on the team. Poor kid was pulled from the Philly game with all his family and friends in attendance and when he comes back to Cleveland in an OKC uniform our fans boo’d him. WE traded him, he didnt leave. fans man….

Kevin6CDParticipantI’m sure Josh is a big boy and can deal with the criticism. If he can’t, he needs to take a quick peek at his bank account. He earned every single boo that rained down for refusing to play the way his coaches asked him to play. To pretend he was above board the whole time is garbage too. You’re a Pistons fan, you don’t remember the multiple times he was benched last year for his conduct?

jaycee24ParticipantHey he makes his millions regardless but I don’t hear a peep out of the fans when we win big against a low profile team or whatever…the only time people acted like the Pistons mattered is in 04 but now they string some wins and these fans decide to now show up and boo like it mattered to them in general. I could care less what Smith does the rest of his career but his stint in Detroit is no longer a factor which is why I wasn’t booing.

phila9012ParticipantI think some players deserve to get booed when they return. I liked what the twolves did with Loves return. They showed a video of his good times and the crowd cheered when it showed his work in the community. Then during the game they booed him which he did deserve. He acted entitled and isn’t as good as he thinks he is. He lacks the champship character and drive to do all the little things. Booing doesn’t make a fan classless, throwing a cup of some liquid on ron artest is classless. Josh smith deserved the boos, he still isnt doing that good with the rockets he was a waste of money.

sitlbitoParticipantJust my opinion, but booing to me is one of the dumbest thing you can do. ay to watch sports to hate is,to me,fo badly educatedpeople. The players don’t give a damn about what these fans say, don’t try to feel like you did something of your life because you booed someone.

jaycee24ParticipantAnd blue collar city my ass the Palace is 30 minutes away from downtown Detroit located in Auburn Hills I bet less than 20% of the crowd comes from the city of Detroit the majority are rich white guys from suburbs on the outskirts of Detroit. Boo the athlete who suits up gave fight to a team that had NONE. I didn’t clap for the guy either i just actually screamed like a drunken fool when our guys made plays

jaycee24ParticipantAnd there were several Pistons getting into it with Cheeks…Stuckey did as well Bynum too. Could it be Joe Dumars hired a moron coach who pissed everyone off?

Sharp ShooterParticipantOh please.
Before you ] Pistons fans remember this:
1.Josh Smith had been benched numerous times due to his lack of effoert in detroit. Also hes skipped practices and shown up late as well. Also there was a rift between him and Monroe…as well as BJ and Smith, in which brandon called out Smith on two occassion about Smith comments about having no leaders on the team.
2. We are not the only team who boo teams. It happens get over it. Cavs did it with Lebron, back when he was a heat. Twolves did it with Love. Magic did it with Dwight.
3. Its a sport players get booed, i don’t see how your "disgusted"
Although I believe Josh wasn’t the only person who should be held accountable for Detroit woes, he should know that he his low bball IQ, yelling at teammates on tv (if you watch pistons games, you see this alot during timeout/commercial breaks), and lack of ball movement/ill advised shooting.

jaycee24ParticipantYou know what you guys are right maybe it wasn’t wrong to boo….He sucked and always has. Ton of talent wasted on a guy who won’t buy into anything other than himself. I think the only reason he honestly wasn’t worse was due to the fact that he was making 13.5 Mill. I wanted anybody but him the summer he was signed. I’m just pissed off that the only time people get revved up in the Palace is when they feel like bashing another team…I booed Lebron at the Cavs game (in good fun) but I know he’s great I just did that in a way to boost my sqaud. It’s just the general lack of Pistons love in MI but then when Smith shows up we act like we cared to begin with…hell good riddens Smith’s gone and I was happy as hell to hear it but I just would like to see people invest in the Pistons like true fans do, not ignorant half-ass fans who boo when the villian comes to town. Give me tickets the the Pistons Hornets game at the Palace and I’ll come home with no voice. Does anyone feel what I’m saying?

TimberTrollParticipantbut just because fans don’t show up for games when the team is bad doesn’t make them band wagon hoppers (not that you said that). I mean why would I pay my hard earned money to watch a team whose not winning?
