    Dion Waiters

may be on the outs sooner rather than later

At the end of January, Dion Waiters reportedly told Jim Boeheim to "f*** off."  You don’t do that and expect to stick around his basketball team. If Waiters left the team, no one would be surprised.

With that said, the idea of losing Dion still sucks. The guy never had a problem coming off the bench, and he thrived. For a freshman, and at times, he provided an offensive spark to a team that sorely needed it. The 18 points he netted in the Marquette loss, for instance. Every team needs an effort guy–a guy coming cold off the bench that means something–and now, ours is probably leaving.

Like he did last time, Boeheim will try to put out the fire surrounding Dion. It’s painfully obvious he doesn’t have a very high opinion of him, but he won’t give any definite answers. Like this gem he served up in Manhattan, courtesy of CBSSports.com"Sometimes change is good for everyone."

Sometimes, change is good for everyone. Other times, change is good for Boeheim. There’s been talk about the need to open a roster spot on the team, and Waiters’ departure kills two birds with one stone.

Then there’s Jim’s man-crush on incoming freshman Michael Carter-Williams. He raved about the kid at the same clinic he revealed Waiters is on the outs. Coincidence? I think not.

"He’s a 6-5 point guard that does a little bit of everything," Boeheim said of Carter-Williams. "He’s really, really good."

So, with that in mind, here’s what to expect out of this situation:

    1) Dion Waiters leaves the program, leaving Scoop Jardine and Rakeem Chirstmas as the only players from Philadelphia. But you’ll only hear that a thousand more times.

    2) Michael Carter-Williams takes over the Dion role for 2011: a rook who can score off the bench. The coaches groom him for Scoop’s job in 2012.

    3) Boeheim continues to not take s**t from players/anyone.

I really like this kids game and frankly would rather seem him running the point over Scoop "turnover at a critical time" Jardine.

Well you also have to look at the fact that Dion is doing the math and is seeing that his minutes could dwindle severely.  As of now we have Scoop Jardine, Brandon Triche, Michael Carter-Williams, Trever Cooney, Dion, and Mookie Jones (although he won’t play either way) so there is a serious log jam at the guard position.  Couple that with the fact that Boeheim may not have been too fond of him last year, and Dion may very likely be looking to transfer.

I am torn on this.  I seriously was not too impressed with him last season, but he did have flashes of brilliance that showed why he was a four star recruit.  He made a lot of bone head decsions where he tried to be the star which ended up badly for SU, but I was still excited to see how he would have improved over the summer.  In the end I hope he doesn’t go, but I won’t be too fussed if he does.

He’s prolly our most talented player, it’s a shame that it seems Boeheim is pushing him out the door, and although he may make some bone headed mistakes, he is no worse in that category then that goofball, wanna-be street baller Scoop, only difference is Dion was a freshmen, Scoop a 4 year junior. Hopefully MCW can be an instant playmaker off the bench like Dion was, or else Boeheim let his ego get in the way of having a very, very talented player on next years team. And on that note I think its time for JB to hang em up, I’ve always felt he was a bit overrated for all the hype he gets, if it wasnt for arguably the greatest freshmen in the last 20 yrs in Carmelo, Boeheim would have been at the same school for 35+ yrs without a championship, let Hopkins take over and hopefully rejuvinate this program with some much needed energy and enthusiasm, Boeheim is just to old, cranky and miserable now a days.

Agreed on the cranky Boheim.  He does not seem to be enjoying himself anymore.  You are a hall a famer and have a title under your belt (should have been two, curse you Keith Smart).  Play golf, spend more time with your very good looking wife and call it a career.
