Lillard, Kanter and Favors, or Williams, Johnson and Wallace?  Going forward do you think BKY’s moves worked out for the better?  BKY could have had those 3 young guys AND cap space (which btw could have been used to sign Wallace in free agency).

If the Nets don’t win a championship with Williams, then it’s possible they’ll regret the trade depending on the future development of Lillard, Kanter, and Favors. The only deal of the three that I think was a major mistake was trading their first round pick for Gerald Wallace. Wallace is a solid player, but they could’ve drafted Harrison Barnes, Terrence Ross, or any other one of the solid players in this years draft class. Keeping that draft pick would’ve been a cheaper solution and likely would be just as effective. That seems not to matter to Prokohorov seeing as his team is about $20 million into luxury tax.

I think they wanted to give a good impression on their first year in BK. They went all in with that one.

They wanted to win now. If Dwight wouldn’t have been an idiot he would have ended up on that team as well. Both are solid teams, but they tried to go big or go home. It’s not like it worked out bad for them, but I would much rather have Lilliard, Kanter, and Favors as building pieces. It seems like both teams really won this trade, but the future is now for the Nets and the future is very bright in Utah/Blazers

Hindsight is 20-20. They were prepairing for a good showing in Brooklyn so they went with proven players. Attract fans and establish themselves as a winning team with good fanbase to potentially attract free agents.

But those three young guys would been really nice going forward. I’d like to see them young guys play together

Kanter and Favors are starting to look good. But they are also long term projects. Favors might produce big time this year, but even if he does, his rookie contract is done and then he will need to get paid. Kanter looks better this year, but probably is still farther away that Favors. So basically next year you get one cheap year of Kanter and then you have to pay him. Your going to pay both those guys "star" money very soon. Then they had better at least be starters.

Lots of tough and expensive moves for Brooklyn. I think they produced a playoff team, which is what they wanted to start building out their fan base. If they make a good showing, get some fans, renegotiate their contract, they will be fine financially. Did you see all the hype Brooklyn has gotten so far? Well guess what that helped them get . . . The Islanders. Prok doesn’t just own the Nets, he owns 45% of the Barclay Center. Well the Barclay Center just got a fat new tenant lined up to pay big bucks in 2015 and on. And the buzz of the Brooklyn Nets is part of that. Maybe the Islanders would have come anyway. But they had to negotiate the contract for them to come and all this Brooklyn Nets buzz gave the Barclay Center much more leverage. I bet the Islanders contract covers D. Wills contract, easy. Prok is spending money to make money and it is all working out just fine.

Remember as well that thanks to the lockout, the salary cap is set way way way below the revenue of the large market teams. The CBA rules basically ensure that Prok has to make money on the Nets. Teams like Charlotte might worry about going over the cap, but not a New York team. Not when mediocre tickets have a face value of $75. They just can’t lose under these rules. And Prok doesn’t need this business to be profitable. He has other far less glamorous businesses to be his money maker.

Mistakes were made, but they aren’t money losing mistakes. The team will be in big trouble in three years as its best players age.  (That is unless Lopez turns into a star that can carry them.) But it will have had a lot of good nights before then.

I can’t wait for opening night against the Knicks!

I didn’t know BKY stood for Brooklyn. Thought it meant Barkley at first.
