valentineThis guys motor runs like Amare’s did during Phoenix days. But he’ll be more of a defensive minded/Rim Runner type in offense who can crash boards and run the floor as a 4 or 5.
So is he Bismack Biyombo (Floor) or I-BlockA (Top 5 pick)
I say Serge.

For_Never_EverParticipantMy opinion as of right now he is definitely Biyomno than a Serge. He isn’t the freak athlete Serge is nor has his phyique and shoulders. Diallo is 6’9 in shoes, and Serge is 6’11.
Serge is perhaps elite athletically and phyically. Diallo isn’t.0 - Posted on: Sat, 10/03/2015 - 9:35pm #1016306

SandSerge is 6’11" now?
They’re all the same height.
Look at KD next to Serge.

For_Never_EverParticipantYeah, Serge is 6’11 now. He was a legit 6’10 during the time he was drafted at age 18.
NBA web sites might have KD listed at 6’9, but come on now he is 6’11. He was a legit 6’10 in college at age 18. You can’t tell they are both 6’11 ?

SandDiallo is still growing. Durant is 6’9" without shoes. He is 6’10.5" in shoes. Hes one of the few who dont add extra inches.
Ibaka is shorter than Durant. Look at any Thunder picture.
Ibaka is 6’8.5" without shoes.
Legit 7 footers tower over your 6’11" (no mention of shoes) Ibaka.
Both Ibaka and Diallo have the same 7’4" wingspan.
Dude….they’re the same size.

SandLol at these cats that think NBA players are atill growing in their like 2nd and 3rd NBA seasons.
Hell…Greek Freaks "growth plates (wtf)" are still "open".
Men stop growing in height between the ages of 13 and 17. Very few are growing at 18. Almost none are growing at 19.

ChewyParticipantnormally (it’s slightly different for everyone) stop growing at age 25. Except your nose and ears because they are cartilage.
It’s science.

SandFind me an nba player with pics as proof that grew a single cm after their 20th bday and Ill buy you a mint condition chewbacca figurine. I could probably have said 18th bday but there are rare cases of slow developers that pop up..and im genuine about my offer
Youre all likely the same height as when you were 16. Women stop growing at 12-15.
‘Its science’….
And last I checked they dont measure ‘ear-span’

BEARDED-DRAGONParticipanti’m not providing pics… chewy wants the doll he can. i’m too hungover. but david robinson to everything you’re saying. 5’9" his juniour year of highschool (around 16, when you say almost everyone stops growing). entering college at 6’7". finishing up at 7’1". last growth spurt at 21.
also, dennis rodman and scottie pippen had incredible growth spurts "at around age 20". they may not meet you’re qualifications tho.
on my 17th birthday i was 5’9". 18th i was 5’10". 19th same. 20th i was 5’11". its on my moms wall. im still 5’11". i could provide pics for that, but sadly the league gms are hieghtists and conspired to keep me out of thier league. also lacking skills… but i’m pretty sure im not an extreme example. also those pics are embarrassing.
you may be right that that is when people on average have thier largest growth spurts. at 5’9" i dated a 6’2" 15 yr old girl who had sprung up in that age range. that wasnt embarrassing at all…

HitsterParticipantDiallo’s game is mainly built on his defensive ability but he has at least a season under Coach Self with the Jayhawks to refine his game and learn a few go to scoring moves. His highlight reels are mainly all dunks though to be fair I’ve seen a few decent passes on there and he knows how to move a ball about reasonably.
We don’t expect PF/C’s to be LBJ type ball carriers or have a CP3 pass range and court vision but they should all know how to move a ball on and not be a liability when the ball comes to them in open court.
I always had the fun vision of JaVale McGee catching a rebound and stood there in a daze trying to figure out what to do next. When he was traded and Nene came in, who was nowhere the sort of defensive player JaVale could have been. John Wall could not believe it when he had a frontcourt guy who he could reliably pass the ball too without fear of it ending up in row J and who just did the simple things well. It made a great deal of difference to Wall as he didn’t have to worry about who had the ball in a passing build up and knew if he gave the ball to Nene, he’d at worse get it back.
Nene wasn’t being used as a playmaker, just he was competent to be given ther ball to move it forward or if he got a defensive rebound. He’d make a perecentage pass to move the ball to Wall, Beal etc or to someone to eventually get the ball to Wall.

King CaluchaParticipantIn my opinion, those skills (actually intangibles) are extremely valuable nowadays. This guard-heavy league need big men who can move the ball, which is why we’re seeing more european centers playing in the NBA. American big men are usually very athletic, can block shots, some can rebound, some can post up, but not many can move the ball well. Okafor and Towns are really really good at this. I don’t see any prospects with these traits in the next draft class, besides Simmons… who isn’t really a big man.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantSerge Ibaka learned to shoot, but it is also important to note that even before he did that was able to catch passes, which is something Biyombo still struggles to do with any sort of ease. Biyombo is still missing more than half his non-dunk attempts, which is problematic when he is always within 5-feet of the hoop. Once the season gets going, it will become apparent to where he is at in his development and where he falls on the spectrum.
Also, I am unsure of what expectations to put on someone at Kansas who started playing basketball 5 years ago. I know he is highly acclaimed, but Ellis, Traylor, and Lucas made Cliff Alexander push for minutes last year. Alexander was raw too, but probably more developed than Diallo. I don’t think is it unreasonable to project, provided he is cleared by the NCAA, that he is a 15-20 minute per game guy and maybe sometimes less.

GBeeParticipantHe’s not like either. Not sure why these 2 names were used as comparisons. Is it because they’re all African? He’s a good athlete in terms of speed (changing ends) and agility (lateral movement and quick 2nd/3rd jumps) but he’s not as vertically explosive or as long as Ibaka. He doesn’t have Biyombo’s natural body strength or length either. He’s got a better motor and nose for the ball than Ibaka at the same stage (better 2nd/3rd jumper too) and he’s not nearly as crude as Biyombo is offensively. He’s raw, but not crude. Unlike prospect stage Biyombo, he actually looks like he’s touched a basketball before
Faried’s the closest comparison out of the names mentioned in this thread. He’s pretty much just a high energy, hustle player ATM. I do think he has more defensive potential with his greater length and better instincts, so hopefully he doesn’t become a negative on that end like Faried. Energy and effort is great on defense, but mindless effort is not. Hopefully the game slows down mentally for him so he can be a positive on that end because I’m not sure he’ll ever be that great offensively outside of hustle plays and finishes.
