I’ve seen a lot of the forums that debate between his position. It got me thinking, Reef kinda had that problem as well. I remember he came in and played the SF spot in Vancouver but then he played PF in ATL. Regardless of what he position he was supposed to be, he got it done every night. One of the most consistent players.

Both Williams and Reef are about the same height and size, both can hit perimeter shots, do a solid job on the boards, athletic, etc. etc. If Williams turns out to be as consistent as Reef was, then I think any team who picks him would be lucky to have him.

Agree or disagree on the Abdur-Rahim comparison?

I’ve been thinking this too. Mixed in with a little LaPhonso Ellis

His portland highlights were ok, but his Grizz highlights remind me of D-Will the most

The Shareef comparison is valid. Although Shareef’s post up game is much more advance coming out of CAL. Shareef is also a much better shot blocker, but Williams is a slight bit quicker.

reef was so much more technical !!!

    d. williams seems more aggressiv on the floor… and different personality I think, but the physical attributes match.

Williams doesn’t have the craft post game that Shareef had. More importantly Shareef wanted to play down low. Williams has this isane idea that he’s the next Carmelo or Paul Pierce!

This Guy is a PF, he needs to embrace and relax!!

to be fair Norvince, not many players now have low post moves like those players back in the day (which I hate)

Even some of the better PFs in the league (Like Bosh, Z-Bo, Aldridge, Love, etc) are all playing faceup and have that ability to go out an hit that 15-18 footer. Maybe occasionaly they do go downlow but a majority of new players play on the outside now

For some reason I can’t remember what hand he shoots with, that’s also a good thing for a wingman, he can finish with both hands in traffic…

I see him in street clothes on the Kings bench. Is he a coach or just been injured for the whole year?

It is sad how Reef spent most of his best years on a terrible team.

I forgot but it took Reef (who was always averaging close to 20 and 10) forever to make the all-star team. His teams weren’t good but he did as much as he could IMO.

Abdur-Rahim is my brother’s favorite player… and mine too… It’s a little sad that he went underappreciated because of the fact that he went to bad teams and only played 12 games in the playoffs in his 12 year career… Derrick Williams = Shareef Abdur-Rahim is a solid comparison… Hear that Aran??? lol

Shareef averaged 20 and 10. If Williams is a more athletic Shareef then that
    wouldn’t be too bad.

Not sure how I would gauge Shareef’s career. He put up great stats on a bad team that never made the
playoffs, while Carmelo put up great stats (more points but fewer rebounds) on a good team that
only got out of the first round of the playoffs once. For some reason Carmelo is this great top 3-5 pick but Shareef was not.

Williams is a better athlete than Shareef with a better 3 point shot but without the post game.
Williams can play above the rim and get some big blocks and steals. Neither is a high assist guy.

A better comparison for Derrick Williams might be Dominique Wilkins. Great athlete, great dunker, good size and strength for a power forward.
Good rebounder for the small forward position, not known as a passer. Neither had great low post moves and score mostly on fast breaks, attacks at the rim (slashing), and wide open jumpers. Williams is a better 3 point shooter. Both can get some steals and blocks
primarily due to length, quickness, and athleticism.

They may have a similar game, but every forgets Reef was an All star caliber player for most of his career until knee injuries derailed his career. He was a franchise player if it were not for injuries, and was a great scorer and rebounder. A team would be lucky to get Shareef 2.0/

dude dominique is one of the better ahtletes in league history!

whereas d-will is barely athletic enough to play the SF

Williams has more than enough athleticism to play the SF. The problem is does he have the skill-set (ball handling, perimeter scoring) to be one, and I think he can play both PF and SF sparingly.

they are very similar as players, one difference is that while Derrick Williams crying he’s a SF Shareef Abdur-Rahim was very angry when Portland put him at that position right after he moved to play for them.

Nice little Reef flashback, not a bad comparison.  One of the better comparisons I’ve seen.  I believe Derrick Williams is more athletic while Reef had a better post game.  It will be interesting to see if Cleveland deals up to acquire number two and take both Kyrie and Williams.

If I had to pin him to one person it would be Larry Johnson Grandmama, but I don’t. It is funny how people forget that Big Nasty Corliss Williamson whom was 6"7 245 play mostly SF. I think Williams can be a SF in the NBA at a high level.
