r377ParticipantJust equalled his career high today of 31 points. He is still only 24yo.
Do you ever think he will turn it around ?

he_gets_bucketsParticipantDoesn’t do much outside of scoring, and he’s not great at that. Average shooter still, if that, really needs to turn into a consistent 35%+ shooter from deep or play quality defense if he wants to be anything more than a role player on fringe teams.

joe2324Participantwhen I watch him, he seems too erractic out there. I know he has a lot of energy, but everytime he dribbles, it always feels like he is going to lose control of the ball. I get very uncomfortable watching him play.

river09ParticipantI feel like it’s a very different game than the one he played at Arizona, I always felt like he played a well disciplined game in college, playing within himself which he was fantastically efficient at doing. Ever since he came to the NBA I’ve felt like he’s been trying to do too much all the time.

phila9012ParticipantI think knowing who you are as a player is an under rated aspect of making it in the NBA. If he just focused on rebounding and defense he would have a more productive career. Look at Tristan thompson. He focused on rebounding and defense and he is a key player on a contending team. Williams may be more skilled but he won’t get the minutes to prove it because he still doesn’t rebound or defend.

Mr. HookShotParticipantHe will never become the star player some envisioned him to become, but he has qualities why are highly valuable in the NBA. Like he_gets_buckets says, if he could become a semi-decent shooter and puts more effort on defense he could turn into a highly valuable role player for a lot of teams (Shawn Marion-Lite).

GBeeParticipantI think he’ll be out of the league soon. I just don’t see a valuable team role he could play. He doesn’t stretch the floor bc he’s an inconsistent shooter with bad shot selection. Likes to drive it but he’s wild with tunnel vision. Has no mid game so you can’t pick and pop with him or run mid post face ups for him. Poor defender, low IQ, zero floor game, doesn’t have a nose for the ball, doesn’t do the little things, etc.
This guy shot himself in the foot before he even entered the NBA by trying to fashion himself as a SF. He’s not one and never was. It’s been an uphill climb for him ever since. Kids who lack self-awareness will likely try to be something that they’re not. Derrick is a prime example of this. So were guys like Anthony Bennett and Thomas Robinson, who tried to promote themselves as wings like Derrick until those experiments failed.
I think he’s yet another guy who will eventually find his way in China.

PulseGlazerParticipantHe’s an okay rebounder and solid defender at this point. His scoring is good, but I worry about efficiency (which has been up lately). He’s working really well as a small ball 4 next to Porzingis when Lopez goes to the bench, and if he excells in that role, he has real value.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantThe guy has talent. No one ever doubted that. Consistency is the key for him. So far his career has been a roller coaster. He’ll look great for stretches, like he’s finally starting to come into his own, and then he’ll just disappear.
To be fair, he hasn’t exactly been in the best situations throughout his career. Now that he seems to have settled into a role for probably the first time in his career, maybe he can thrive as an off the bench instant offense and energy guy. The key for him will be doing it every night though or at least on a consistent basis, not just once in a while.
