The problem is that Love and Williams are both PF’s. There is no 2 ways around it, I just don’t see them meshing well together. I would look to trade one for a bonafide wing scorer and maybe depth at the PF position itself.

The TWolves are losing again to the Heat..But currently in the third quarter he has 21 points and 8 rebounds. Over the past 10 games he is averaging 17.3 ppg and 8.6 rpg.. Hopefully Kahn is not stupid and trade the guy.. They are building a nice foundation with Ricky Rubio, Alexy Shved, and Derrick Williams. Hopefully Love is wanting to stay. We should have a good draft pick and get some nice young wing like Porter. Maybe we could draft Lin..

Anyway, what do the readers think is the upside of WIlliams?

Yup Festar is right, but Love is not happy in Minny and is going to keep bitching about it, He’s a great scorer and rebounder, but that’s pretty much what he does, such a bad defender.. Since williams is starting to emerge, I would trade Love, they could get alot in return for him.. I would try to hang on to Pek though, but im not sure they will..

No way do you trade Kevin Love in favor of Derrick Williams. Derrick Williams has been putting up numbers, but the Wolves are 2-8 in their last 10 games and Derrick Williams isn’t any better on the defensive end than Kevin Love is. Also, Kevin Love would be stupid to leave the Wolves in 3 seasons when his contract is up. He isn’t going to find a teammate easier to play with nor one who can make him look better than Ricky Rubio. The Wolves should trade D-Will this offseason because his stock is never going to be higher than it is right now. Also, they need to fire Kahn so he doesn’t screw up another draft. I am not overly thrilled with the idea of hiring Flip as our GM, but anyone is an upgrade over Kahn so it can’t be that bad.

I love Derrick Williams and I hope he does well, He is playing better, but he’s a power forward shooting around 44% from the field, and 20% from 3 and 64% from the line. A Power Forward definitely has to have a better field goal percentage, but he is improving. He would be looking good next to Kobe right now!!

Its not like they can’t coexist on the same team though at their own positions. Are you all forgetting what Utah did last season in the post season (and did so effectively)? They started and gave a lot of minutes to Big Al, Paul Millsap, and Derrick Favors and it worked out just fine. What’s bad about having extra depth at the forward spot especially since AK isn’t going to be around for forever. Yeah DWill isn’t the best PF but what’s horrible about having Kevin Love playing the “SF” role on offense when he floats around the perimeter most possessions anyway.

I don’t think there’s much to forget. Utah didn’t use Millsap, Al and Favors together that much, either in the regular season or the playoffs. If I remember correctly, it was pretty effective in the very limited minutes during the regular season but much less effective in the playoffs against the Spurs.

What about drafting Len and trading Pekovic and Williams for Pau? Len and Gasol would not duplicate Love’s game (like Pek), and Gasol could get a new start and bring championship experience to the Wolves.

Once Budinger and Love get back, this is a different team. I know Love wants to leave, but if this team can put together 30 games next year without an injury, they could start to mesh and develop into a really good team.

As talented as Len is, big men take a good bit before being able to step in and contribute big minutes; Derrick Williams is still shooting a low percentage and too many threes for my liking.

Can I still dream of a three way trade as a Lakers fan where Love ends up back in LA.

    Howard to the Nets

    Lopez to Minny

    Love to LA

One man can only dream… A big dream, but that’s what dreams are for

I wish harrison barnes would have came out a year earlier, he would have been a great fit with minnesota. Rubio could create for him. and then if minnesota hadnt traded the their first round pick last year for marco jaric they would have been able to get jeremy lamb, who is a nice scorer along side rubio. A core of rubio lamb barnes love pekovic shved and their first rounder this year would have been a great young core. But barnes stayed an extra year and the twolves have had terrible GMs

Williams seems to be going to a mid-range jumper during this nice run of play for him. Before, all he did was take threes or drive to the rim, which is not a bad strategy but not when you’re an erratic shooter from three and a below-average finisher around the basket. On nights when he wasn’t hot from three, he had nothing else to go to. He’d go something like 2-7 from the field and not get much playing time. I like how he’s getting settled by stepping in a few feet or seven and just getting buckets.

One important thing to remember is that DWill is still on the rookie deal so I don’t think they’re gonna let him go. I think the decision that will dictate everything is pek. If he walks than I don’t think they get rid of DWill or klove. A big part of me thinks that pek likes minne and likes his teammates and might be willing to sign for less than a max deal like hibbert got. Obviously that’s just speculation. I think we have a unique situation with all the euro players
