thricethefunParticipantWould you say that the Rose contract is the worst in the NBA? $95 million contract yet he can’t stay on the court for more than a quarter of an NBA season (less in the last 2 years). If Chicago tries to trade him would anyone bite?

kanuflengParticipantteams would be scared because of his injuries. just today, down and out again in 10 minutes. he’s never gonna come back to his MVP days, or maybe even All-star. he’s just in n out of the lineup which is very frustrating. aside from physically unable to play, his commitment with the team is not there too. mentally he doesn’t want to go hard with playing anymore (recent comments). I’m not gonna pay this guy 18 mil a year to sit and think about his meetings in the future. only way he’ll be on another team is when his contract is over with the bulls.

Tight ButtholeParticipantAt least Chicago can counter that and say they have the best player contract with Pau Gasol.

RickSlickCHIParticipantI wouldn’t give up on him just yet. He’s just taking precaution . The old D Rose would of played through this. Which what caused him to hurt himself even more. When you go through what he has in the last two years. You would have extra caution . Alot of these players play with some serious injuries causing them to have a short court life. As a bulls fan I hate to see him like this, but If this is going to help him in the future im for it. Plus the Bulls have so much depth this year. They don’t need to rush him.

Kinguy11ParticipantConsidering the endorsments and publicity the team gets from Rose, I’d say that, while they’re not glad about the amount of money they have to pay them, they will not look at the decision to retain him in a bad light. Also, remember that he was coming off the back of an MVP campain (and was the youngest to ever win the award to boot), so they couldn’t realistically expect to retain him for less than a maximum contract.

khaled_a_dParticipantHe was tremendously underpaid during his rookie contract and now he is overpaid (solely due to injuries ,if he didn’t get injured he is easily top 5 or even 3 players in the league) .this how thing works in the NBA.you get paid what you deserve at the point you signed the contract

JordoParticipantIm not understanding why people are so hard on Rose like he hasnt been injured for the last 3 years. Starting with the lockout year. Him and the Bulls have every right to take as much precaution as possible.

B-ball fanParticipantHe has been out of the NBA for a while, so it is going to take time for him to get fully into shape. Nagging issues like hammy problems were to be expected. He still is a valuable player for the Bulls when healthy. They just need him to be healthy in the playoffs. Regular season is less important. People just freak out way too much.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThe regular season is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s so important for the Bulls and Derrick Rose to build up his body and his confidence in his body at the right pace. I don’t think he can mentally handle another major injury.
You can say he’s not worth his contract or whatever, but it really is what it is though. I think that if he’s healthy at the right time, he can definitely push the Bulls to a title.
Rose is a funny guy, but I’m rooting for him lol. I believe he’s totally dedicated to winning and helping the Bulls win a title.

HitsterParticipantD-Rose had just come off his MVP year when he got his extension so that could not be argued with. I do wonder if his injury issues mean he will ever be fully sound again, I want to see the old D-Rose back more than most.
I agree that the Bulls may need to manage him through the season but we do need to see him on court more.
Also would any team get good insurance for another D-Rose contract, the Knicks could not ensure STAT’s knees in 2010 and he had played every game the previous season for Phoenix.

TallmanNYCParticipantI see your Josh Smith and raise you two more years of Joe Johnson at $24 million per year. At least Joe plays and is good. But man is he paid a lot to get us 16 points, 3 assists and 3 boards per game.
There are plenty of worse contracts than the D Rose contract. At this point it actually does look like he will be back to being an All Star. He has speed and bounce. He certainly doesn’t have to be as good as he was to justify a max contract. Especially not if that contract goes into the new higher salary cap years.

binetParticipantI agree D Rose is unproductive for his contract but contracts are not only about basketball level. DRose is a true superstar and his popularity and fame make him very bankable for the Bulls, and whether he is good or not he has to be paid a lot because of that.
Players are not paid only because of their basketball skills, they are mostly paid based on their marketing potential: that is why Jeremy Lin is so overpaid and Tony Parker relatively underpaid: popularity and market.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantYou can’t have the worst contract in the league when if that team is healthy in May and June is a legitimate candidate to win it all when 20 teams in the league cannot even dream of being there. The talk of who would take the contract is moot, because the team knows that with Rose they can win the title and without him they would be lucky to get to the second round.
Pau has emerged from the purgatory that Lakerland has become, and is still one of the best big men in the game. Jimmy Butler is another example of guys continuing to improve their skills and add to their game every year. For all the draft talking points that surrounds guys "maxing out" their ability at 22 or 23, the league is absolutely littered with guys who really develop their craft. Rose suffered two major knee injuries in back-to-back years. It was not going to all come back overnight. If anything, it is probably a bit of a surprise that the Bulls did not build into their plan that Rose not play both ends of a back-to-back this early in the season. They have the luxury of a deep roster. For games from November to March, it will not kill them to utilize Aaron Brooks or E’Twaun Moore when needing to aid Rose or Hinrich in the same way it won’t hurt them to use Nazr, Mirotic, and even Bairstow to save Pau, Noah, and Gibson. I don’t want to be all crazy and suggest Thibodeau let Jimmy Butler play less than 47.5 minutes per night, but Tony Snell is not bad either. These guys aren’t necessarily difference makers in May or June, but the work they do now can best get them to that point.

HitsterParticipantD-Rose looked good against Boston today getting 21 points, hopefully he is builing himself back up, his post game interview certainly sounded confident. It’s fingers crossed that he gets a good run of games under his belt or at least finds out how many games he can play with no reaction. If he has to sit every 5th game or something then so be it.
