ilike.panochasParticipantIve been thinking about what Derrick Rose’s highest ceiling would be, and Ive had mixed feelings as to what kind of a PG he is/or will become. He has the mentality of a “Pure PG” like Deron Williams, yet he has the tools, size, athleticism of a “Combo Guard” such as Dwayne Wade. He doesn’t have the court vision that Deron Williams has just based on watching him play and his assist number (6APG), infact I would go as far as to say that Derrick Rose’s court vision is just average and nothing special, but he does a good job of sharing the ball and taking care of the ball for a young PG. Physically, he is capable of being a 25PPG scorer like Dwayne Wade.
I guess my questions is, 5 years from now, is Derrick Rose going to be like Deron Williams (20PPG 8-9 APG type PG) or a Dwayne Wade type (+25PPG 5-6APG scoring PG) ? Im sorta leaning on him becoming a Dwayne Wade.

joecheck88Participantim thinking he will be kindo of in the middle because he will get more assists than wade but less than williams but will score more than d will but less than d wade. i mean he is great and i think he is definately a mixture of both players and i see him as a 23ppg and 8apg kind of guy. im just happy i get to watch him play for many more years.

TRC1991Participantdefinitely closer to wade…he’s not going to blow you away with his assist numbers but the dude can score with ease…he showed very good promise from the outside last year he was stroking the mid-range jumper with consistency

ilike.panochasParticipantYea during this past year’s playoffs against the Cavaliers, Derrick Rose showed me that he is more of a “scoring PG” than I ever thought, I seriously thought I was watching a DWade clone, he was keeping up with Lebron score for score in that series. Even the year before against Boston, Rose was the best scorer in that classic series.

Demarcus OnealParticipantD-Rose is D-Rose there is no one like him with his amazing speed with the ball as a big physical guard with great size and outstanding athleticism also playmaking ability

JNixonParticipantI can’t compare Rose to anyone. He’s a 20 ppg scorer from the PG spot, but he is an above average playmaker too. You’re selling him short if you think ” his court vision is just average and nothing special”. I think 8 or even 9 apg is right around the edge for him, now that he has teammates around him that can consistently score. Don’t let the 6 apg fool you, Rose has nice playmaking ability. He’s not prodigious like Jason Kidd, Rondo, CP3, Deron Williams, or Steve Nash, but he’s definitely on that level right below.

ilike.panochasParticipantI understand that he is a young PG and has room to improve as a assist-man, but even back when he was in college I wasn’t that impress with his court vision, he had a ton of weapon at Memphis and he couldn’t average more than 5 assist per game, like I stated before he does take care of the ball very well, he hasn’t averaged more than 3 turnovers a game at any level so he is very good at that, I still say that his court vision is average for a PG.

JNixonParticipantThe only truly good scoring weapon on that Memphis team was CDR. That’s not a bunch of weapons at all. They had great role players, but it’s not like they were overflowing with scorers on that team. He’s an above average playmaker, and he’ll prove it this season. I expect 7-8 apg next season, which is above average, and no lower than 8 for as long as he has solid scorers on his team. Once again, he’s not elite or prodigious like the players I listed above, but he’s a better than average playmaker.

TONYDABOSS77ParticipantD-Rose Has Pretty Good Court Vision To Me .
To Me He’s In The Discussion For Top PG0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/28/2010 - 5:33pm #364660

Demarcus OnealParticipantDerrick Rose is good but hes not in discussion for top pg because Paul and Williams are much better then him same with Nash and Rondo

dolla130Participantrose is rose, a really good scoring pg by situation and people really under estimate him as a play maker his vision is really good he got every player on that bulls team from last yr open shots his assists arent gonna go up from just passing them the ball its a 2 way street they also have to knock the shots down he avg 6apg on a team with one of the worst offenses in the league and people for get hinrich also avg like 5 apg last season, he played with another pg on the floor.. and he is a better player then rondo and nash at this point and at the end of this season book it he will be in the debate of the top 2 pgs in the league

billykParticipant1. Chris Paul
2. Deron Williams
3. Rajon Rondo
4. Derrick Rose
5. Steve Nash0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/28/2010 - 8:16pm #364772

SteroidParticipantYeah, I think Coach K described it best. Rose is like a compact D-Wade with slightly better playmaking ability and is about a step faster than Wade too which is saying a lot because wade is fast. D-Wade is stronger, a better scorer and still is an athletic freak even though all the rough injuries he’s had.

BiggysmallsParticipantHow many assists did Gary Payton average? I guess its hard to compare guys based off of assists because the league is alot different now than it was 10 to 15 years ago, but I think Rose could be alot like Gary Payton. Good mid range game, big strong physical guard, not elite knock down 3 ball shooter, but great at slashing. Rose may not be on the same defensive level, but lets face it, not to many PGs in NBA history are. I think Rose is a more explosive Gary Payton. I have a hard time comparing him to D Wade, I cant really explain why, I just dont see that a whole lot. But he really isnt like D Will either. Thats good company though when your talking the best PG and arguably the 2nd best SG in the NBA. Both guys are top 10 talents, and Rose will inevitbly join that rank soon. IMO he is the 4th best point guard in the NBA behind Williams, Paul and Nash.

SupParticipantDerrick Dwayne Derron, that’s funny but other than that …. Who cares.

OhCanada-ParticipantIve got two questions.
Why do we have to compare him? What does that accomplish?
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/29/2010 - 6:02am #364903

ilike.panochasParticipantbecause making comparisons is what NBA draft is all about, you project what that player is going to be.

scoutguruParticipantHey this is a world of everyone wanted to compare things. But I see what you mean, why can’t we just let Derrick be Derrick, while the others are themselves. That being said, he’s prolly somewhere in the middle. But idk if Rose really wants to score in the manner that D-Wade does, it was more out of necessity since no1 else on their team could take on the 1st option scoring load (smh @ deng). But Rose is a PG first and foremost, he won’t wow you with high assist numbers, or have the grace and vision with that comparable to D-Will, but he’s unselfish and looks to get guys involved. He makes sure guys are in position, and sets the offense up, and moves the ball accordingly. I think with the increased talent on the team this year, his scoring will go down slightly and his assist will go up. I see him averaging prolly 17-18 ppg and 8 apg.
