ChicagoCaseyParticipantI believe people undersell Derrick Rose MVP season and how great of a player he was at the age of 22. I’ve been on the bandwangon of Derrick Rose wasn’t the real MVP of the 2010-11 season for some time now. And now that i’ve looked back and see how special he was I would say he’s being underrated.
People says/said that LeBron James or Dwight Howard should have won MVP that season, or that they had a better case than Derrick Rose. Or they would say he only won MVP because of the statement at Media Day when he stated "Why can’t I be the league MVP". I would say that you are absolutely in the wrong if you say any of the two things of why Derrick Rose was not deserving of the MVP.
Derrick Rose averaged 25 points per game, 4 rebounds per game, 8 assist per game, and shot a great percentage from the field for a player of his playing style/size. He also carried a much weaker squad than the LeBron James led Miami Heat team to an NBA leading 62 wins. The much weaker (talent wise) led by Derrick Rose also won the series against the LeBron and the Heat, you can make a case that he outplayed him in that series too.
If you say James Harden should’ve won the NBA MVP this year you have to say that Derrick Rose should’ve won it in 2010-11 season. James Harden led in injury plaque team to the second best record in the western conference, put up great stats, and eye test alone will tell you that he had the better season. That’s basically a copy and pace for why Derrick Rose won MVP. Russell Westbrook had put up better numbers than James Harden (as LeBron James in comparison to Derrick Rose), he had arguably the better season, and is arguably better player. All those things doesn’t mean he should be MVP.
LeBron James is and always will be better than Derrick Rose, but Derrick Rose had the more spectacular season than LeBron James. He deserved that MVP because how he carried a not so good (talent level wise an comparison to other "elite" teams) Chicago Bulls team.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI absolutely believe he deserved mvp that season. No, he wasn’t the best player in the league, but he had the most impact of any player for his team in the regular season. It was kind of similar to Iverson winning MVP in 2001, even though everyone knew shaq was the best player in the league at that time. Lebron didn’t have a great season that year by his own standards. The fact that rose was able to lead that Chicago team, with no other real star power, to 62 wins was extremely impressive. The fact that they lost to Miami in the playoffs doesn’t diminish what rose did that year. MVP is a regular season award and I can’t think of any player who had a more impressive 2010-11 regular season than Rose.

JR RyderParticipantYes Derrick Rose deserved the MVP that year, but you cant say Lebron deserved it LESS just because he had a more talented supporting cast. I wouldnt despute had Lebron won it that year.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI feel completely comfortable saying that. Lebron didn’t have a very good season by his standards. It was his first season in Miami and he had yet to really establish himself as the clear cut leader of the team, even though he was clearly the most talented player in the league at that time. Rose was clearly the more valuable player to his team that year.

CameronCrazy11ParticipantI saw a lot of Chicago Bulls games during Derrick Rose’s MVP season, and there’s no doubt in my mind he deserved it. I can’t go as far as to say he was better than LeBron, but in terms of overall impact on his team, Rose was the clear-cut winner. He had an infectious yet humble swagger about himself that spread to his teammates and was just a joy to watch. I remember seeing him make multiple enormous shots throughout the year. One that stood out was his game-tying three against Houston. The emotion on that play kind of summed up the whole season for Bulls Nation where it seemed like Derrick could do no wrong.

SubZeroParticipantI feel like people look for different things in the MVP. Some people want to give to whoever fits the actual description, the best player that has the most value to their team, and other people want to give it to the best player regardless of what they’re worth to their team. Just about every year there’ll be an argument for/against somebody

Champzilla21ParticipantLebron averaged 27 pts 51% fg with 7.5 rebs and 7 assists just to let ppl know that it should have been alot closer then it actually was. I mean Rose shot 44% and that would be the 2nd lowest of Lebrons career. Was #5 in free throws attempted and top 15 for def rebs while having the highest PER at 27.3 compared to Roses 23.3. So yes he was the best Offensive player in the league while being a superior defender to Rose as well. But with a great season plus voter fatigue and the 62 wins though its not like it was an upset so yeah i was happy with the choice.

llperezI felt Lebrun deserved it but it was close and certainly no complaints for rose getting. Fact is voters have bias just like fans and I do think they held the “decision” against Lebron and also he had already won multiple Mvps so voters like to look for different people to give it to. There is no major controversy though, rose was great and took over games and it was really just a matter of opinion.

Memphisboy14ParticipantI still felt like LeBron deserved the award over D-Rose. But, you are right it’s not about the best player but, who is the most valuable. I think LeBron didn’t win it because the majority of basketball fans believed he was the Anti-Christ for leaving Cleveland. It’s funny because the same people are mad at him for leaving Miami to go back to Cleveland.
I do feel like CP3, Russell Westbrook, and Stephen Curry have had seasons where their stats were just as good if not better than what Rose had that year. I just feel as if people are giving Rose a huge amount of good will because they are holding out hope that he will become the player he once was. I don’t see it happening he’s only played 60 (something) regular season games in the last 3 seasons combined. I just don’t think that Chicago will ever win a ring again by building around him due to those injuries he’s had.

Greek-BallerLebron should have won it, Rose was underrated, who cares, he’s not going to be back to this level ever again, people should just get over it, I would have prefered seeing Brandon Roy healthy instead of Rose, he was the better of the 2
0- Posted on: Tue, 08/11/2015 - 8:09pm #1006962

JR RyderParticipantSorry but Brandon Roy in his prime was not better than Derrick Rose in his prime. Derrick Rose was like Stephon Marbury with great intangibles, and a more efficient Russell Westbrook.

Memphisboy14ParticipantI would say that Westbrook was definitely more efficient. Rose was never the most efficient even in his MVP year.

JR RyderParticipantWestbrook shoots at lower percentage and has a higher turnover per game, while playing next to the best scorer in the league, how is Rose not more efficient? And im talking about MVP Rose vs at any point of Westbrook’s career.

BigChamp12ParticipantDerrick Rose had a monster year at the age of 22 and definite;y deserved MVP consideration. However, Lebron was simply better. 27 pts, 7.5 rebs, and 7 assts on 51% from the field with the league high 27.3 PER. In my opinion there is one and only one reason Lebron didn’t get that MVP trophy, THE DECISION. We all know it. THe media knows it. The players know it. If Lebron hadn’t messdup with with the DECISION, that would’ve been one of the easiest MVP votes ever.

MettaWorldDurant1ParticipantI was comfortable with D-Rose winning the MVP that year..IMO Derrick Rose was playing at the level Russell Westbrook is playing at now..which is scary because that was a couple of years ago. Injuries have derailed Rose’s career 80% chance he wont be a top 5 player again.. and for Curry And Harden it seems to be 50/50 amoung most people. James Harden had a more quality season interms of stats and overall play but i think Curry’s shooting display was too good and the dubs were clearly heading for a championship behind him.

Greek-BallerPrime D Rose was better than Brandon Roy in his prime yeah right haha. D Rose had 1 good year what don’t you get. Roy was the better passer, leader, defender, was much much more polished offensively and more clutch than D Rose. What else stupid are you going to say now Ryder.

JR RyderParticipantIll say another stupid thing, here:
Rose won his MVP in his 3rd year at the age of 22 years old. Is it possible to he still had room for improvement? Maybe a better jump shot and improved defense? I think his MVP year he was ALREADY better than Brandon Roy (who was already maxed out his potential).

HitsterParticipantI started saying that D-Rose was a legit MVP contender towards the end of 2010-11 season on here, and joined the D-Rose MVP campaign. So I feel that he fully deserved the award that season.
