His playing time seems to be decreasing as time goes by in Utah and I was wondering what you think it’ll take for a team to get him out of there via trade?

He is still an above average NBA player IMO with potential, but just not a good fit next to Gobert. I thinknow next to a stretch big like Porzingis(NY), Turner(IND), Kaminsky/Williams (CHA) or even next to Harford in Boston.

Think any of those teams enquire?

Derrick’s trade value is probably lower than it has ever been at this moment given he has only one year left on his deal and he has had an unproductive injury hit season. But he is still only 25 years old, is on a very reasonable expiring deal, is an experienced and skilled big who is going into contract year so his motivation would surely be there to earn a new deal. So there may well be suitors for him.

The problem Utah have is that they wouldn’t get anywhere near what they may have got a year ago. Derrick has had injury issues and played reduced minutes this year but every year up until this season he had always improved his scoring output. So is this year a blip or might he never reach the potential we once thought he may.

I like the idea of him next to a stretch big and could see him as a decent fit for Knicks or Pacers. Also I think Gobert needs a stretch 4 next to him. Boston for a year might also make sense, he gives them extra rebounding and gets the chance to earn a new deal with them. Charlotte have Marvin Williams at PF and he was considered a better perimeter defender than Derrick at Utah, so I’d not see them as a logical fit for him.

Perhaps Derrick does need a change of scenary after over 6 years in Utah. Even a move back to the Nets could have some logic, get himself as a senior player on the team, play a good year and see what his FA value is next summer.

I’d also throw in Chicago as a possible destination as they haven’t replaced Taj and Derrick compliments Mirotic as options alongside Robin Lopez. Houston would also be an interesting option as Derrick could thrive under D’Antoni’s system especially if he worked on his perimeter shooting.

Chicago could be interesting, but I think they need more than that and don’t have a lot to trade outside their pick which I think has more value.

Utah will be looking for someone to come in and contribute, not more young talent.

A package I think would be fair is Thaddeus Young and 2nd rounder(s) for Favors, Utah may want a little more.
Young can run in transition, good mid-range game and adequate 3-pt shooter which could be a nice fit with Hayward and Gobert. Favors offers rebounding and rim protection which will ease the defensive burden on Turner allowing him to focus more on offensive game.

Theres alot of teams that he would fit in beautifully with but most of them already have established thier Center position and although Favors can play some PF its easy to expose him at the 4 with todays crop of hybrid forwards.

The Bucks would be a good fit. I think he could play Monroes role but provide better rim protection than Greg.

If the Pistons find a buyer for Dtummond they would be a good fit.

Boston would be good to but I dont think he fits well with Horford.

3 first rounders – give one up for Favors. With Jurkic and Favors they could be a 4th or 5th seed in West

I’d give up 15, 20 and Meyers Leonard for Favors and the 30th pick. Maybe Snyder could turn Meyers into a serviceable big man.

He is basically a one year rental, then will command big $$.

Like so many American players they always seem to have “career years” just before their contract is to be renewed – I would expect Favors to bounce back, so he can get paid in the off season.

Is Favors good defensively? I think he’d be a great fit in MN. Seems crazy but I think a deal centered on a Lavine-Favors swap could be interesting.

Wouldn’t go well for fans in Minny because people love Lavine but I think getting a rugged, tough big who can score and defend (if Favors does that) would be something where the team ultimately wins more.

Minny would be another decent fit but with the star rookies going onto 2nd contracts in due course, renewing and keeping Favours and them all might need some work. Plus Minny might draft a good young big this year or could go into FA for a real veteran presence in say Taj Gibson.

I did think of Portland too, would Utah be interested in a shooter like Crabbe or the versatile Turner but they would be taking on extra salary.

I wouldn’t trade him just because he’s not getting the minutes he used to. That’s what happens when a team goes from bad to good. He’s still an outstanding backup center and a guy who can play alongside Gobert in certain situations. That’s a valuable thing.

I don’t know if I’d trade Favors this offseason. He’s developed as quite a piece off the bench as a center backup to Gobert. His trade value right now, as mentioned above, is very low. The Jazz need to build it up again before they shop his trade value. Use him as a key backup to Gobert. Give no team any chance to recuperate with Gobert on the bench. Then you can explore the trade market.

Which team does he go to? He operates best when he is the man down low and blocking shots. He is a lot like Al Horford. He’s a bruiser, but he needs that stretch 5 next to him that would open up the paint for him. New York or Indy would be a perfect fit for him. Which team would Favors want to be a part of? I think he’s gotten used to small market cities like Utah, and actually likes the feel and environment they have. So with that in mind, I think Indiana with Myles Turner would be the perfect spot for him. Thad Young is getting older as is Big Al Jefferson. But Favors on the other hand is still pretty young, only 25 or 26, like has been mentioned above. In one or two years he’ll be in his prime. So develop him as a key backup to Gobert for the last year of his contract, then trade him to Indiana. For who? I don’t know it depends on what pieces Indy has in a years time. PG13 may leave this offseason for greener pastures (Boston is where I think he may go) Does Indy decide to trade him to Boston for some of their picks from the Nets, and the pieces they’ve already developed like Jae Crowder and Marcus Smart or do they something else entirely. I can’t tell you who Utah would like in return for Favors, because in a years time the makeup of the Pacers could be completely different then what it is now.

So who should the Jazz bring in to pair next to Gobert. Well, like has been said he needs a stretch 4 next to him. Favors isn’t that stretch 4, he’s more of a bruiser 4, that plays like Al Horford. So who do I think the Jazz need to target this offseason? Greg Monroe. He can opt-out of his contract with the Bucks. I think he will do so, because the Bucks have found talented gems in the draft in the past. (Thon Maker, Malcom Brogdon, and Rashad Vaughn for example.) Then they brought in Michael Beasley, and Tony Snell through free agency and trades. If the Bucks can do that, just imagine who they find in draft or in free agency. They will probably find a better pair for Maker than Monroe is. So Monroe opts-out, Utah lets Diaw go or retire, lets Ingles go to another team, and uses Dante Exum in his place at the 2 with hot, sweet shooting from Rodney Hood off the bench, then also has the veteran presence of Iso-Joe backing up Hayward. With that extra money from letting Ingles leave, Utah can use that money to sign Monroe to a contract. Isn’t this the guy that Utah dreamed they could get back in the 2010 draft, but knew he wouldn’t last till the 9th pick, and they didn’t have the pieces at the time to move up 2-3 spots to knab him? Well now you can get him!!!
