This summer Deron is obviously thee cream of the free agent crop. A top 3 PG in the league teams will definitely be interested in his services. As of right now we know opening the Barclays Center with the Nets and going home to Dallas are the most talked about destinations. We know Portland with lots of cap space will likely make a run at him. Missing the playoffs the past 2 seasons he’s definitely gonna look at the opportunity to win right away when deciding where to sign.

I was looking through teams where he could and immediately make a good team better and came up with one longshot possibility that I think could work.
The Atlanta Hawks(via S&T for Josh Smith & Jeff Teague)…their cap situation is bad for the forseeable future thanks to the Joe Johnson contract. & while he’s very good and a frequent all-star, he’s proved he can’t take a team to the promise land being the top dog. So why not go all out & try pairing him with D-Will for the remaining years on his deal. They’d be probably the best backcourt & create mismatches the majority of nights. D-Will would also create more open looks for Horford coming back off injury and for Marvin who can knock down shots when set up. They could sign a 4 in free agency with the mid level(someone like Jamison, Kenyon Martin, Humphries, or Odom) & try to get their bench to come back as cheap as possible. I think a Deron/Joe/Horford trio is much more likely to get past Boston or Chicago & into the east Finals than Joe/Josh/Horford ever was.
On the New Jersey end they get a youth infusion with the exciting Teague who still has lots of room to grow and would be good to learn under Avery Johnson, and Smith who is Dwight’s main man if they still want to pursue him via trade this off-season. They’d still have a lot of cap space and could do as they please to bring in some excitement for the new arena either via free agency or trade. Josh & Dwight(if they’re able to swing him) with the reported signing of Kirilenko would make them pretty hard to score on.

Any other situations you guys have thought about that aren’t being mentioned as possible landing spots for D-Will?

by now, everybody and their mother knows that D-Will is from Dallas and I think Mark Cuban will really push for hoim to sign there.  Not re-signing Chandler and Barea opened the door for Deron to be a Maverick.  Jason Kidd is old and past his prime so I really see a perfect situation for D-Will to be a Mav next year.

Indiana would be scary if they could sign him.  Collison isn’t as good as they expected him to be, and I think they wouldn’t be afraid to upgrade to get from Eastern Conference condender to NBA Title contender status.

I’m also pretty sure D-Will is done with rebuilding teams now that he has more control.

Maybe NY could be a possibility. If Williams is willing NJ could sign and trade him to NY for Amare and Lin, Nj dosent want to lose him for nothing.  Lin is good and solid plus he’s going to help sell tickets in their new arena, Amare maybe not worth his 100mil contract and he’s often but he give them a solid scoring option and another name to help attract fans. If the Knicks can pull this off and lure Phil Jackson it would be the perfect storm for them.

IF the Pacers push Miami hard in the 2nd round, maybe that’ll make Deron Williams consider them.

The pieces are there… Just need a superstar at the point.

I assumed he’d go to Dallas, but I read recently (gotta find the link) that he’s currently leaning toward staying in New Jersey, which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, but I’m sure we’ll hear a million different things before he makes a decision.

ill probably be negged a lot for this because theres a lot of Deron to Dallas fans here, but i see him going there rumours very much like the LeBron to New York rumours a few years back. im sure Deron going back home has a good chance, but i wouldnt be surprised if he ended up to a team like the pacers who can add him with their cap space before resigning Roy Hibbert and George Hill. imagine him playing with Granger, West, and Hibbert as his front court?

I think the most likely scenario has DWill staying in NJ.  If not, I think Dallas and Portland are the next most likely landing spots.  Indiana would be another good place for him.

It would be hillarious if he went back to Utah though.  I know it won’t happen, but we’d be talking about "The Decision" type of hatred from Nets fans toward Utah.  Can you imagine scoring Favors, Kanter, Harris, and another first rounder for a 1.5 year DWill rental that returns after?  Again, I know it absolutely will not happen. But that would seriously be a story talked about for decades if it did.
