Once a top-2 PG (in any order), he seemed to have fallen off after being traded out of Utah and has struggled with injuries and chemistry issues the last two season.

Now it seems as if he’s picking it up and starting to play like his old self.

In the first 7 games of the season, he averaged:

    • 11 PPG
    • 7.4 APG
    • 41.7% on 10.3 FGA/PG
    • 1.7 FTA/PG

In the last 6 games, he’s averaging:

    • 17.8 PPG
    • 10 APG
    • 50.7% on 11.8 FGA/PG
    • 5.7 FTA/PG

Has he finally turned the corner or is this just a hot-streak?  Can he regain his old talents and average 17-10 this season and once again be a top PG?

It has to be said that after he went away from Utah injuries have held him back. And last year he was bad in the first part of the season (especially in the first two months), but he was playing like his old self later. He averaged 16.7 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 7.6 apg with 41.3% FG and 34.7% 3P before the all star break, then he went for 22.9 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 8.0 apg with 48.1% from the field and 42% on 3s. So he can obviously regain his old talents, but much will depend on his team chemistry, the number of shots and possessions he would get and so on. I don’t think he can be a top PG again because CP3 has set the bar too high for anyone else in this league. The ranking behind depends heavily on each player’s team results, and this is not good for Williams because his team is pretty bad right now (and I don’t think it’s much of his fault, to be honest).

The talent is there as evidenced by the run after the All Star break that Jester describes. I think his ankles will be the main issue. If he doesn’t hurt his ankles again, he will play at a high level. If they start hurting again or if he sprains them, he will just be a decent starting PG.
