May be the first time I’ve ever heard of a former coach actually trying to come back and play in the league again (unless you count magic Johnson).

From what I’ve seen from him he still looks to be in phenomenal shape and hasn’t really lost a step from when he last played in 2014 (although it’s hard to actually tell unless you see him in actual game competition). He’ll be 42 by the time the season starts.

If your a young team in need of veteran experience (like the sixers, Lakers or nets) would you at least consider giving him an invite to camp. At the very least he wouldn’t be a bad guy to have in the locker room to mentor the younger players.

He was too slow 3 years before he retired. Plus, if he’s on your team you extra have to watch your wife.

Fisher was a subpar PG and his career PER is 11.  One of his better years was his last year in OKC when he played SG.  Are you really going to give a roster spot to a guy who is 42 who physically is way past his prime?  And if you’re going to go the old "we need a veteran in the locker room" guy, I wouldn’t give him that either.  This is a guy who while coach of the Knicks, lied to his team about his whereabouts so he could go and bang another NBA player’s ex.  There are way too many better options than a 42 year-old Derek Fisher for an NBA team to think about giving a roster spot to.

I think it’s a publicity stunt, and Fisher is trying to get some shine so that he can get a deal to play in China.  Better question is why is the guy trying to make a comeback?  H needs to let it go, and move on to the next phase of his life.

Sounds like Derek Fisher didnt spend his money right.. I hope he gets signed just so Matt Barnes can "guard" him.

I can see it now. In garbage time Matt Barnes sets a nasty shoulder check screen that levels Fisher and the fight to the death is on. My moneys on Barnes

He will be as trusted as much as D’Angello Russell in the locker room and I can see why he wants to come back because of the money…not to mention he will probably never given an NBA coaching opportunity because he messed that up and didn’t have anything to work with…

Something just doesn’t seem right to me that you could retire, coach a team the next year, and then possibly comeback a year later. I mean just hang it up

On a Much , Much, Much, smaller scale, I h ave done this, I played, then I was older I got hurt,  I started coaching, Now I am trying for one last shot of glory,   The only people that think Coaching is better then being a player, are those that can’t play anymore.

I saw his lil workout video. Looks every bit of 42 lol. For real… His stutter steps were looking like he had gum stuck on his shoes.

    Typical off season story??

"If an NBA team expresses interest, I’m open to dialogue, but at the moment I have no steadfast plan to play again. (2/2)"

i never liked him, but when he used his sick daughter to get out of his contract with Utah, (without compensation) and immediatly signed with the Lakers, he became my most hated player.

Grizzlies actually need a backup point guard with experience.

So that’s why they didn’t resign Barnes?
