TONYDABOSS77ParticipantHe’s rehabbing his knee right now so I understand why nobody’s talking about him, but he’s a special prospect IMO. Tha way he plays tha game is special. He’s soooo explosive & quick, he looks like a young Steve Francis. He has a floor game though, he can really dance with tha ball. He has floaters & runners. He can knock down spot ups, pull ups, etc. I love his demeanor though, he plays very militant. It’s serious with him. In the 4th, he tries to eat your face for tha W. He plays with flair & just looks like he knows when to seize the moment & there hasn’t been a PG prospect that could see that since John Wall IMO. He’s not 6’4 & super long like Fox, he’s not 6’5 like Kobi Simmons, he’s not put together like Alkins, he’s not pulling up for 3 everytime like Monk, but he’s tha best of tha bunch.

IlladelphParticipantAlthough I do not agree that he is the best PG, as I think Fox is and will continue to be better, he is an amazing athlete. I’ve seen him play and he has a very quick first step, has a great handle, and is explosive. He does remind me of Steve Francis to some degree.
It is really ynfortunate that he tore his acl. Frequently guys lose a little bit of their elite mobility and explosiveness after this type of injury. I suspect that he played a few too many games and put too much stress on his frame/knees. I think if he can play at 80-90% of his pre-injury level next year at nc state, then his draft stick won’t be affected. In a weak draft, he will still prob be top 5 given his elite athleticisms, speed, and developed scoring ability.
I reaaly like the guy too. Though I think Fox will be the best PG prospect.

Mr.JoshuaParticipantI thought this draft is supposed to be really strong?
I am kind of hoping the Sixers end up with the Laker pick in 2017 to get a better player even if a few spots later.

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantYeah Smith is nice, but more like Westbrook/Francis nice. I’m old school and like my point guards to play POINT. K. Simmons is the guy everyone is overlooking in this class…

GBeeParticipantYou like your point guards to play "POINT" yet you mention Kobi Simmons who’s the most SG of any of the highly touted PGs I’ve seen in that class, with the exception of maybe Frank Jackson. I saw Kobi this summer and didn’t like what I saw at all. Sloppy, poor selection, too careless with the ball, physically weak, low IQ, more flash than substance, etc. I can see why he’s been overlooked and slipping in the rankings (which I predicting in the middle of AAU season). He started off top 10 now is closer to 20 and falling in the composite rankings. I expect him to continue to fall before the ranking of this class is done.
As for Smith he’s good, but I wasn’t blown away by his game either. He seems very loose, casual with the ball and he plays in flurries. He’ll make the spectacular play then have long stretches of ineffective play. IDK if he’s just trying too hard to be a pure point or what, but for stretches he just wasn’t making much happen. Size-wise he’s pretty small too. He’s got a strong build but he’s got the wingspan of a sub 6′ guard. Maybe he’s grown since the last time he was measured. Yet another kid who has to work on his shot and shot selection, but I guess that seems to be the norm at that level and in the settings that I’ve viewed.
The kid that I have been blown away however, to the point of projecting him as the best PG in the class is Markelle Fultz. He’s grown the past year and is up to 6’5 with a SGs length (could be still growing too at his rate). He’s got all the skills: shoot, pass, handle, shot-creating, playmaking, etc. He’s effective from all levels of the half-court. Could improve on his 3 ball, but it’s still good and he’s got a great looking shot. He’s got the pull up game, footwork, body control, length at the cup as well. Unlike a lot of top guards he can play on or off the ball. Clearly has the playmaking, vision and ability to defend 1s, but he’s also well-versed in moving without the ball and utilizing screens to free himself up. He’s a tough defender too. Well coached, plays at great pace, underrated athlete who doesn’t rely on his athleticism, creative playmaker off the drive and dish. There’s so much to like about his game IMO so to me he’s the #1 PG in the class.

ncballerKobi Simmons is going to be a HUGE letdown for you. I think even in the 20 range he is the most overrated player in the class. Mixtape wonder, and he has some athleticism, but just is not a good basketball player. I think he is a taller Kasey Hill.

connybucketsParticipantI’ve seen him play with all the other guys at state during the summer and he looked like he’d been playing college ball for a while. This was pre ACL injury but he was able to hang with Cat pretty well. Aside from Cat and Russell Westbrook I’ve never seen anybody that quick or that explosive first hand

Robb_CParticipantHes more of a natural PG than Westbrook, which will be helpful to Smith if he loses any lateral speed from the injury which is doubtful cause hes young.. he reminds me a bit of Stephon Marbury early in his career, very capable scorer but can make plays for others when needed..they both can attack the paint and create out of it as well..

SpacegrassParticipantI am still trying to figure out why the hell did Dennis Smith commit to NCSU especially coming off the injury?

MatosParticipantI think he’s trying to prove that he can play against some of the best teams (ACC) without being on a stacked team. I actually love that we’ll get to see him in action against some good teams instead of playing against lower level comp by joining a mediocre conference. Love this decision.

MatosParticipantD. Smith and D. Fox are both elite level talents. Next year is looking really promising.I’ve said countless times on this site that Josh Jackson is a game changer. Jayson Tatum is looking like a potentially great player too. Of course we don’t know how these players will play until we see them on the college game scale, Im amped.

connybucketsParticipantOn the topic of his injury, he enrolled at state so he could get high quality rehab, or at least better than he would get from a normal physical therapist. He can also blend with the team easier since he enrolled early
