I’ve just read an article from Sam Smith that sugest that the Bulls should trade Luol Deng for a high draft pick to draft either Bradley Beal or Harrison Barnes. What do you think about this possibility? Do you think is gonna help the Bulls in the short term? Should they make another move, maybe for an upgrade at the SG position? Looking forward to read your comments! Greetings from Uruguay… http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/smith_120611.html

If he’s still available at 5, I’d strongly consider trading him to SAC for the pick.

I don’t like the move either. Tibs loves Deng almost as much as Rose. But apparently the front office is pissed at Deng for not getting the surgery until after the Olympics which means he will miss a big chunk of next year.

Is it a good move- No

Is the front office considering it- Yes

Takes the throw the spaghetti against the wall and see what sticks theory to NBA trades.  All you need to know is this line from this article:

"It’s highly speculative, of course, but perhaps not inconceivable."

I like reading about trade rumors as much as anyone else, but Smith typically throws out way more wacky stuff than the average NBA scribe.

I really like what Loul brings to the court. Not only for his statistics but for the intangibles. But I think sometimes you need to make a move that could be painful for the fans or affect the team’s chemistry, but needs to be done. I don’t know if this is the case, I only read the article I wanted to know your opinions about it. It’s very interesting to see the options Bulls have in the offseason. I think it could be a pivotal summer for them and there are a lot of questions to answer. My feelings are mixed up, because I like Deng but if there is a good deal out there, I really think they should try it.

Harrison Barnes can’t defend Lebron James the way Luol Deng can.  The Bulls care about beating the Heat to get to the finals first and foremost and they aren’t going to trade their best wing defender for a rookie.

A very stupid move, Deng is one of the big reasons Chicago are a great defensive team. He is long , and plays great with Derrick Rose and provides decent scoring

Trade Deng and draft Brad Beal. He is a physical tough player which Tibs would love. He rebounds well which outside of Rose being Rose is really Chicago’s identity as a team is their rebounding. If you need someone to guard Lebron resign Ronnie Brewer long term. Then use the roughly 10 mil in cap that you saved to get a FA.

The future would be set for Chicago in 4 of their 5 positions: Rose, Beal, ?, Gibson, Noah.

(This is all ASSUMING that Chicago was dead set on trading Deng)

MKG is talked about as a very good defensive player similar to Iggy, would he be a decent trade option for Deng?

My problem would be, you are trading away D-Rose’s main running mate, would he like that as the team might take a step back as the rookie would take a few years to get to Deng’s level.

I’ll throw a curveball here with all these picks being suggested as trade bait could the Lakers look longer term and maybe try to get a decent pick for Pau Gasol, I know this may not please Kobe but they may have to look beyond him and getting a good running mate for Bynum and/or any future major signing could be an option.

If they are conceding this next season then it might actually be a good move if Barnes could turn out to be a better number 2 scoring option behind Derrick Rose because that is what they need most to beat the Heat down the road.

I think the Bulls should keep Deng. He made the All-Star team for the first time in 2012 and with Rose set to miss significant time, the Bulls will need him to carry a bigger load. Barnes is no sure thing, though I can see him being pretty good.

On a side note, does anyone else think that with Rose for an extended amount of time, the Bulls should at least make a pitch for Steve Nash? He can still lead a team and he would have a lot more talent around him than he did in Phoenix for the last couple of years. As for Nash, this is a team already built to make a run at the finals and will probably get him closer to a championship than most of the teams with a real need at point guard.

I can see Chicago chasing a veteran PG, the two names which came to mind were Andre Miller and Chauncy Billups. Miller has come from the bench for Denver this season so would have no issue in doing so behind D-Rose when he returns and he would be an ideal distributor for the rest of the team.

Billups would be a natural leader, has his title with Detroit, knows Rip’s game, played alongside CP3 this year,, so can play off the ball when D-Rose comes back and is a defensive specialist which Coach Thibs always likes.

I’ve seen some mock drafts lately that suggest Bulls are going to draft a PG in this draft. I thinks that’s a nonsense. As Hitster says, they are going to chase a veteran PG to play starting minutes while Rose is recovering. I don’t see Andre Miller playing comfortably as a sub when Rose is back, as he has problems doing it for Denver. Steve Nash could be a nice adition, as he is a better shooter than Miller. He and Chuncey Billups could play with Rose when he returns. As I said before, Bulls have plenty of options this offseason. They are a couple of pieces from challenging the trophy, and this could be a pivotal season to achieve the objective.

Pissed at him for surgery after the Olympics!!?! If anything this solidifies the Bulls a lottery pick next year!!! Without Rose or Deng, how many games do they win? Lol. Thibs will still probably have that team as a 5 seed in the east. Really though let Luol do his Olympics thing. It is in the country where he grew up. Not very one gets that chance. And trading him for Barnes is pointless to me. You would have to hope Barnes becomes as good as Deng. You already have a championship caliber team with he and Rose healthy. Let those 2 take next year off and get back into great shape and come on strong for the 2014 championship run.

Trade Deng to Sacramento for the #5 draft Brad Beal and move Jimmy Butler who’s highly under rated into that 3 spot

    Or

Trade Deng for the #5 and draft MKG and amnesty Boozer and sign Eric Gordon

    Either way you got

    Rose-Beal-Butler-Boozer-Noah

    Or

    Rose-Gordon-Kidd Gilchrist-Gibson-Noah

If Chicago did sign Nash, I wonder if they could actually play Rose off the ball when he returns, this would spread the floor and be very hard for the opposition to counter. Nash perhaps needs the ball in his hand to have worth these days whilst Rose can play more the scoring role if required.

With Chicago having that pick due from Charlotte in the next few years, if they did struggle a bit next year they could add another new piece and long term have a very good team around D-Rose.
