jwostrumParticipanti was really very impressed with demarcus cousins in his first game this year. his shot selection looked better and he seemed to play with a lot more of a mean streak. if last night was any indication of the type of season cousins will have, then i think sacremento will be turning around real soon, and shaq might have a assistant or head coaching job offer in the next couple of years. thoughts everyone?

bigblackNbeautifulParticipantShaq as a head coach for demarcus is a hilarious idea that i think could maybe work out if they had world class assistants. Also I think this kings team this year has the most swag in the NBA.

TarHeelRavenParticipantEverything is mental with Cousins. He has all the talent and skill in the world to be the best big man in the league. It’s put up or shut up time now for Demarcus…

SiggyParticipantThe Kings look like they finally found a good head coach. The team is also all Demarcus’. It’s no longer he and Tyreke’s. Tyreke and Cuz never complemented each other’s games (well Evans doesn’t really complement anyone’s game). Cousins knows that its his team now and more importantly, his coach knows that. The Kings are actually running good offense with structure, which hasn’t happened since Adelman left. I can’t stress how much more different the team looks under Mike Malone as opposed to the string of stooges that the Kings’ have had as head coach. In the preseason, Cousins pretty much said that this was the first real offensive system hes played in in his life (college included) and I believe him.
This isn’t to say that Demarcus himself hasn’t improved. The skills were always there, but he appears to be more patient with his touches now.

sheltwon3ParticipantI think Sacramento could actually get better as Vasquez learns the team and they trade for better pieces at the 3 and 4 spots. Also McLemore needs to grow and contribute as the season goes.
Denver has Wilson Chandler and Jordan Hamilton who they are not utilizing as much. A change of scenery may help these guys.

HitsterParticipantMike Malone knows how to set a defensive formation up and having worked under several top coaches was due a shot at being head coach. With a bright guy on the bench and a new GM in Pete D’Alessandro who seems to really know his stuff, the team looks in safe hands both on and off the court.
The team gave DMC a big extension and basically told him we want you to be the focal point,so they put the ball very much in DMC’s court and he seems to be responding.
We all know that DMC has a huge amount of talent and even if his stats do regress slightly last year there are very few 23 year old bigs putting up 17/10 and not being near their full potential. Also DMC put these stats up only playing a shade over 30mpg. His per 36 minute stats would have been near All Star level I reckon.
Now with Shaq available to focus him as much as provide coaching advice, the Kings could well have made a very shrewd move in renewing DMC early.
I doubt that Shaq would want to be involved in a full time coaching capacity given his off court interests but being a shareholder/ minor owner of the Kings and being able to assist DMC or any other players as he sees fit is probably an ideal role for him. Having someone detached from the team who may notice small things is useful and just having Shaq around the team would probably give them a lift as he is a proven winner.

King CaluchaParticipantIt doesn’t matter how much of a knucklehead he is. When a superstar like Shaq calls you and says: “Dude… I think you can be better than me” (maybe not those exact words), you just go to the gym and work you way up for the season.
I’m not saying he will be. Most of the times it’s just a matter of motivation.

MopgrassParticipantThey are more of an actual team. They need 4, but dear Lord, they need a 3. Can’t they find Jimmer a home where he’ll be useful and get a 3?

HitsterParticipantThe Kings will probably struggle this season again but being near the head of a loaded draft isn’t the worse place to be. The Kings have cleared out a few draft picks from recent years but the new Head Coach and GM will have a full year to look at and refine the current roster to decide exactly what their biggest needs are.
This year Pete D’Alessandro had literally days to access the draft from a Kings standpoint as he said in an interview when he started at GM when he was at Denver they were accessing the draft from a late first round point of view.
The Kings were lucky that McLemore fell to them and with him and DMC they have two great building blocks.
Jimmer is a hometown hero and pushed up attendances but if he isn’t delivering then maybe a change of scenery would be good for him. He’d make a great bench impact player for a contender, if the Kings could get a pick back for him in next year’s first round then a trade could be considered.
