First, his physical profile is supposed to be one of his strengths, as he is 6-10 with long arms and moves very well. However, he is super weak. Daniel Dingle, who is very below average physically, held his own with this guy. On one possession Lawson tried a turn around shot in the post over Dingle and got knocked the floor when it was contested because his core and lower back are so weak. That is something Lawson can certainly improve on, but it will take a lot of work and that’s not his only flaw.

Second, this guy is not a good shooter. His percentages agree with this too, as he’s 29% from deep and 70% from the line. But its not that he doesn’t shoot well right now, its that I highly doubt it improves. He’s a two-handed shooter who pushes the ball from behind with his guide hand, and he doesn’t release the ball with a smooth flick of the wrist, it sort of feels forced.

Third, he doesn’t seem to be that aggressive. He disappeared at times tonight and even when he had the ball and a 3 or 4 inch height advantage, only once did he take advantage. He’s too concerned hanging on the perimeter shooting jumpers which he can’t do. If he was a better natural talent I wouldn’t be that concerned with the lack of aggressiveness, but he needs something to overcome that.

He’s one of the most naturally talented players in college basketball but his fundimentals are terrible and his work ethic off the court have not produced good results. He played for his dad Keelon Lawson at Hamilton High in Memphis where he and his brother KJ ran free. His father then was hired by Josh Pastnerin order to seal the deal on KJ’s recruitment. Then when Pastner left Memphis and Tubby Smith wanted to bring in his own staff the Lawson brothers threatened to leave the program if he fired thier father. Basically the Lawson family has control over the Memphis program and there is no accountability.

He has so many positive qualities but also so many negative ones and it just won’t fly in the pros where he will be held accountable. He can do so many things as a versatile forward but theres no explosion, flat jumper, doesnt play physical, ball dominant, was the most out of shape at last years combine also the youngest. Does he end up.like Antwaan Jamison or Antoine Walker?

Seriously man? I meant in terms of conditioning and professionalism. Jamison being a positive comparison Walker obviously negative.

I kind of skimmed your post doing something else, yeah now I see you’re not comparing talent. Not sure what you mean by "natural talent" at the beginning but from what I saw last night I didn’t see much that translates to the NBA.

Also Keelon Lawson has two more sons which are elite prospects.
