Andrew1984ParticipantI have a question for you. How do you feel about Jimmer Fredette? Last year there was quite a bit of banter about the Jimmer. Some said he was just another Dan Dickau or Travis Deiner, and was vastly overrated due to beating up on lousy competition. Others said he was the next Steph Curry; a pure shooter both off the dribble and off the catch, and has a fierce competitiveness and an underrated ability to get into the paint.
I personally grew up watching Mark Price in my formative years here in Cleveland, and it was uncanny how much Jimmer reminded me of Price; always balanced, great fundamentals, high IQ, unselfish, terrific passer, crafty in his ability to get a defender off his feet to draw a foul, etc.
So Sacramento drafts Biyombo at 7 and swaps him for Jimmer who went 10. That’s pretty high. That tells me they think Jimmer is better than just a spot-up shooter like Steve Kerr or Tim Legler.
He played pretty well in the pre-season, knocked down a few shots, but ended up relegated to bench minutes and was mostly a non-factor in their season. This confuses me based on his draft slot and their apparent belief in him on draft day. But Isaiah Thomas ended up spelling Tyreke, and Marcus Thornton got plenty of run. So now what’s their plan? Trade Tyreke, start Isaiah? Trade for Kyle Lowry? Maybe draft Lillard?
What’s the consensus in Sac-Town on Jimmer? Waste of a draft pick? Or are they just not using him? Has he not lived up to expectations in practice? Is he a career bench guy?
My feeling is just that he’s a guy who will make plays if he has the ball in his hands. If you make him a catch-and-shoot guy like Kerr, he’ll hit a few shots and play 18 minutes and he’ll be ok, but if you put the ball in his hands, he’s capable of putting up Mark Price numbers. How does everyone feel there, though?
