Marc Stein is reporting that DJ will be heading to Dallas for 4yr/80+mil.  My question is how good is Dallas with the additions of Wes Matthews and DJ?  They still need a decent point guard.  Also where does this leave the Clippers?  There aren’t very many solid centers left on the free agent market.  Kosta Koufos is an option but he’s no DeAndre Jordan.  Too bad DJ is leaving because this Clippers team seems to have more talent than the last couple years.  Without DJ the Clippers aren’t going to be contending.

Bad choice for DJ, He will get exposed. Aging Dirk and no point guard for set up, chris paul really helped.

I can’t find the stat, but I know Tyson Chandler caught hell of lobs last season and Dallas ranked high in lobs thrown. DJ should be fine.

If they can add Jeremy Lin for 5 to 7 million for 3 years, they are in business. Lin is solid and is about as good as the mavs can do now. He has a solid jumpshot, he can get to the hoop and is a good pick and role ball handler. He also has something to prove after the last few years. I think that is a reasonable risk to take.

I have never been the biggest DJ fan but I feel like next to Dirk and Parsons is a great place for him to play, Wes also fits in very nicely with those other 3 if he rehabs properly. They are certainly in need of a PG, but that might not be too large a problem due to their current roster, which should look rather enticing to just about any remaining FA PG.

That definitely hurts the Clippers. How far under the cap are they without DeAndre? Perhaps they can salvage this by getting two or three good pieces for the price they would have spent on DJ. They clearly were lacking depth size.

clippers are at 66 million right now. Not sure what cap is but i beleive its usually somewhere around like 68 mill or so so i dont think they can afford to do much mroe then add a few bottom rung guys.

Right after I wrote that I saw their cap situation. The Clippers are really in a bad spot unless Dallas wants to sign and trade with them go create a cap exception. They lose one of their 3 best players, don’t have the money to replace him, or the assets to make a deal. I’m not sure where they go from here and perhaps that’s why DeAndre left.

Big loss for Clippers, they had a chance with DJ playing D in the middle to make the Finals. Now they are really lacking rim protetor in the middle. See them droping off to a road team in the first round of playoffs now.

This trade will only benefit DJ and hurt Clippers, simple. DJ absolutely will have no pressure on him at all, leaving him open for all kinds of lobs and transition dunks. Dirk, Parsons and Mathews will spread the floor and he will have a wide open lane for alleys.

Clippers, never viewed them as a contender, sorry to say this they have great talent but not contender team. They have some nice pieces but not a team that can go far, especially now with DJ gone.

Mavs do need a PG thats most definetely, but i feel that someone at that position will give it major thought with a line up like they just acquired. I mean, a decent PG in that system and those players aroung him should easily avg 8-11 assits a game.

    Just my opinion

I have no interest in either team but Jordan is leaving a better team. I do not think Jordan will blosson on offense he will be exposed without Paul. Not to mention Dirk is a shell of the allstar selef he used to be. They lost Ellis who is a beter scorer than Mathews and who knows wht mathews will be like after that crushing injury.

Crushing blow to LAC… With their cap situation, they cannot replace him.

I like the move for DJ… He gets to go back to his home state. Saying winning must not be important to him is silly. Dallas has been one of the more winningest franchises in the league. Great owner and great coach. HOF team first guy in Dirk. I like this team and I’m interested to see how DJ responds to the new challenge.

curious to see how deandre looks next year. He got so many lob dunks from not only paul but griffin who is maybe the best ball handling/passing pf in the game. Now deandre is playing with dirk who wont create off the dribble and devin harris who is no chris paul.

DJ is leaving a better team but maybe not a better fit because Dallas Mavs are no slouch.  Also having more 3 point shooting around him should open up the game a lot for DJ.  Clippers were not terrible but did not have this ability.  Blake was a so so jump shooter.  CP3 was alright and only JJ was a great 3 point shooter. Their small forward and bk up were so so outside shooters too.  This hurts the Clippers but DJ should be good.

if you guys remember, early last season the Mavs offense was rollin with the motion sets Carlisle implemented. it was never the same once they acquired ball stopping Rondo. The Mavs guards aren’t Chris Paul but I have no doubt he’ll get open looks in the lane with an offense like that with shooters on the floor and the ball constantly moving

People who keep saying the Clippers are a better team are forgetting the fact that they have been one of, if not the most disapoiting team in the playoffs the last 4 years or so. Obviously Deandre choosing to leave to go to a team that isn’t as good on paper goes to show you the kind of structure and culture that the Clippers organization has cultivated. Of course DJ could have left all that money and Lob City just so he could go back to TX, but we RARELY see that, so I think the Clippers lockerroom had a lot to do with it. Clippers still had no bench, no defensive wing, and Deandre probably saw this and ran.

Now he’s going to a team that is stacked with 3pnt shooters, leaving him as the only viable option inside. Expect Rodman like numbers from Deandre this coming year, similar to what Drummond did. A lineup of:

    Jordon

    Dirk

    Parsons-Anderson

    Matthews

    Harris-Felton

Is very potent, and is full of a bunch of great defenders and great shooters. What this team desperately needs though is more bench help, and a better starting PG who could create their shot. Someone like a Jeff Teague on this team would put Dallas back in title contention

Good move by Deandre! Glad to see a player choose going home and playing for your homestate instead of taking more money and running with it

Remember, the Mavs had a historic offense last year before the ill-fated Rondo trade.  If healthy, Matthews replaces Monta.  If Harris can penetrate, that should work out.

NOOO! I actually am a mavs fan. I was dreading this ides when it was 1st mentioned DJ was coming to the mavs. We have no dynamic pg to throw him lobs, so can’t wait for him to be a liability on offense, and & dirk is too distinguished of a player, albe it older, to lead the mavs into the playoffs just so dj can not make clutch free throws. Damn this new nba guys gettin max money for doin one thing well.

i read a tweet where mark cuban told deandre that hes capable of averaging 20-20, but he wasnt given the oppurutinity to do so in LA… thats very wishful thinking on his part and not gnna happen.. but can he average u 15-15?? maybe… but no way 20-20… hes gnna need divine intervention in his post game for him to get 20-20 a game

DJ joining the Mavs is good news for the Celtics. It should pretty much gurantee the pick is outside of the top 7 where it was protected. Probably be around the early 20’s which is still got potential for good value.

I’m actually very surprised he opted to go to Dallas. It seems like him and the clippers were a perfect fit and I honestly liked the clippers chances at competing for a championship more with him than Dallas. I can’t see him really getting an expanded role on offense with Dallas like he claimed he was looking for. Dallas has several much better scoring options imo. Anyway, this is really devastating for the clippers.

I think teams like Utah,New Orleans are happy about that. It makes the Clippers worse, and it doesn’t make the Mavs over the top great. These two teams will be battling just to go to the playoffs. Don’t forget Matthews comes off the worst injury in Basketball(heard someone say only Jerebko in the last ten years recovered completely),Nowitzki is getting really old,and they have no depth, and one legit point guard(Harris). Their bench consists of Dwight Powell,Justin Anderson,Richard Jefferson,Raymond Felton at this point….

The Clippers,I seriously think they aren’t gonna make the PO. No depth at all. Not much defense neither as they lost Matt Barnes and Jordan in this offseason. Wow.
