DukeDaSquadParticipantWhat do you guys think he does in the off season? Every thing that he does on the basketball court is based on his athleticism. He seriously needs to do nothing but shoot free throws and work on post moves. The crazy thing about him is that he has good form on his free throws for someone that shoots it as bad as he does.

BiggysmallsParticipantHe doesn’t have good form at all. The shot is different every time and its in about three different herky-jerky motions rather than one smooth motion.
Agree with you though that its incredible how guys like him still haven’t developed simple basketball skills.
I don’t want him, or Drummond, or Howard shooting 3-pointers or even mid-range shots, but they don’t even have ball skills. Anything more than one dribble is an adventure for them and if they make a pass, you are almost surprised when it gets where they intended it to go.
Watching Drummond today actually made me laugh out loud. His post up game seemed almost painful and when he gets the ball in the mid-post area after a slip scree, he looks like the definition of a fish out of water.
Not saying I wouldn’t take them on my team, because I would. I’d hide them all on the baseline and just have em shuffle from short-corner to short-corner and wait for dump offs but it is odd that you can’t give them the ball and trust that something good will happen outside of 5 feet.

omphalosParticipantDrummond actually has good ball-handling ability for someone his size, and he’s a good passer too.
His post-game definitely needs work, but he’s not a stiff like those other two.

Lebron’s HairlineParticipantI want to know where that awesome 5-8 foot step back fadeaway he was showing during the summer league his rookie year; I feel like he has a lot more skill than he’s shown but he’s being regulated to the Dwight role in stans system.

GBeeParticipantThat was never part of his arsenal. That was when he used to shoot the ball with 2 hands, fading for no reason bc he had no concept of feeling his defender, countering or creating space to get off a shot.
If anything, he’s getting a larger role than he deserves given his offensive ineptitude. He really has no skill, outside of having great hands. SVG is likely making an investment now, hoping that Drummond gets more comfortable so that he CAN eventually play the D.Howard role. Andre also tends to pout and play with less energy if he doesn’t get his touches too.

GBeeParticipantNah. Drummond can’t do either of those things well. He’s sloppy, doesn’t feel his defender, has no concept of counters and his footwork is terrible. I actually think Jordan is a better post up option (which isn’t saying much) because he at least plays with force and can execute simple dropsteps unlike Andre. Drummond’s assist rate is bottom of the barrel as well. He doesn’t read the defense and more often than not just throws up junk. Just look at his ratio of post touches to shots from the post (which you can look up on nba.com). In over 83% of his post touches, he shoots the ball, which is tops in the league for players with around that amount of post touches or greater. On those shots, he shoots a pathetic 39.7%. Combine the aforementioned stats and it’s apparent that he sucks at making decisions (outside of "see the ball, get the ball, dunk the ball"), which is a key component of good passing players or at least players who have average passing ability.
He’s most definitely a stiff in the post, a low IQ one with poor touch who doesn’t understand his limitations and plays much smaller in the post than his size would indicate.
As for Jordan, he’ll be 28 soon. He is what he is and likely won’t improve much. At least Drummond has age on his side, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. He’s lacking so many innate qualities.

BleedGreen808ParticipantI had to laugh in the offseason when he said he wanted to be a bigger part of the offense. Who would give it to him in the post when he doesn’t have post moves and they can just hack him since he can’t hit free throws?

OdieParticipantI disagree. Deandre often gets great low post position and no one passes down to him. When he gets the ball close to the hoop, he is actually very good. He’s smart enough to not dribble and go straight up. Anyone who shoots 70% from the floor is probably not shooting it enough.

BleedGreen808ParticipantA majority of his shots come from lobs, putbacks, and dropoffs which is why he shoots such a high percentage. Just tonight he got it in the post a couple times and he missed the jumphook.

TarHeelRavenParticipantI like to look at guys that big as if they were 6 feet, could they still play in the NBA? Would Deandre Jordan even be a D-League guy with his horrific skill set if he was 6 feet or under? It’s all just speculation, but the fact of the matter is that Deandre Jordan needs to get with Hakeem………..immediately.

OhCanada-ParticipantHakeem works for the Rockets and is not aloud to train other players while he is employed by Houston. Right now his main project is Capella.

Kwame33ParticipantAny person in the world would have a different life all together if you made them a foot shorter.

Kwame33ParticipantBut in all seriousness, it’s quite obvious that height greatly influences your skill set and what you’re most inclined to work on. Pondering over how good or bad someone would be if they were a foot shorter isn’t even worth discussing. What if Chris Paul was 4’11 or 5’0 instead of 6 feet, would he still be in the NBA?

HitsterParticipantWe don’t expect Jordan to start shooting like Dirk but surely he can master a few basic moves. He has one of the best PGs in the NBA to create for him, a beast of a PF alongside him so he will get some free shots.
I don’t expect big C’s to be major ball carriers but if they are proficient with the ball it makes a major difference. It means that a team mate can pass them the ball and know they won’t do anything stupid with it and can rely on them to continue the attack.
I always use the John Wall-Nene-McGee analogy. When Washington traded low basketball IQ Javale McGee for the more skilled but less athletic Nene, John Wall noticed a huge difference. He had a big man in Nene who could use the ball sensibly, who he trusted and who wouldn’t make stupid plays. Nene was a good player not a great one but he had good fundamentals which a lot of younger more athletic better players maybe lack.
Often these young studs can do lots of great things but don’t understand the more subtle points of a game.
Why not spend a summer practising FT’s to improve etc.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI’m pretty sure jordan pretty much is who he is at this point, and that is a pretty good player who almost every team in the league would want on their roster. After 9 years in the league, I would sincerely doubt that he makes a big leap offensively or ever shoots better than 55% from the line. Not saying that he shouldn’t continue to work on those aspects of his game, but I highly doubt they will ever be his strong points.
To his credit, what he does well he does better than just about anyone and the clippers have done an excellent job surrounding him with players who compliment his strengths and for the most part hide his weaknesses. I think that’s the main reason he was so hesitant to leave la, because he knew he wouldn’t really find a better situation. He has mastered the role he plays but I doubt you will ever see him take his game too far beyond that role.
