frogmanParticipantThis guys is having a great year anchoring the Clippers D and rebounding like a man possessed so I have a question.
How in the blue hell did he slip into the second round of the draft? I don’t care if you are legally blind, someone with his body and athleticism never gets past the 1st round. So what was the issue with him coming out that every GM passed him up (give or take a couple of draft pick trades) with his ridiculous upside he had?
The ridiculous upside of Joey Dorsey and DJ White even went ahead of him.

JoeWolf1If I remember correctly, people were concerned about his work ethic and how much desire he had to want to get better. He was really raw, and hadnt shown the desire to really improve yet. Everyone was well aware of how good he was athletically, and he was considered 1st round talent, but teams were spooked because he often looked like he didn’t care, and his skill set was pretty low coming out of A&M.

HitsterParticipantPlayers slip down the draft for many reasons, I recall it was felt he needed another year in college and was very raw. I don’t remember there being major character issues about him at all.
Don’t forget the 2008 draft was absolutely loaded but the big men didn’t go that high, Big Roy Hibbert was down at 17th which was probably way too low when we redo the draft and other proven NBA players like Asik and Mbah a Moute went after Jordan.

Land of GrantParticipantHe was just a giant dude with great athleticism. Those guys often don’t pan out. Good thing he did, though, he’s fun to watch.

kazamParticipantTo go off what everyone else has said, bigs with tons of raw athleticism and little skill rarely pan out, see Tyrus Thomas. Jordan is an example of when it did pan out but it still took a few years. Most recently I can remember the huge hype surrounding Hassan Whiteside leading into the draft but he ended up in the second round because of concerns about his attitude, work ethic and skill set and now he is out of the league I believe. Sometimes guys put it together, sometimes they dont. It’s always a calculated risk drafting anyone.

goodsontheParticipantlike a top 10 pick but he fell FAST on draft boards… Similarly to Hassan Whiteside and Austin Daye…
Even still, I never agreed with him being a second round pick. Even with his issues at the time, like his attitude and his sulking, he should’ve gone top 10.
