FastAndFuriousParticipantStraight beast, may never be an offensive weapon but he can rebound and block shots with the best of them.
Where does he rank among Centers?
And does he have the DPOY award locked up so far by a wide margin?

tuck243ParticipantRoy changes a ton of shots… and get blocks on the top defensive team… If he doesn’t win I’ll lose my mind… he’s really one of the main reasons they have the best record…

FastAndFuriousParticipantAgreed I forgot about Hibbert, but Deandre is just as close to Hibbert it’s a tight race, Deandre has had some monster games, Deandre’s rebounding numbers are magnificent

XYRYXParticipantJordans Highlights for sure have the upper hand to Hibberts but honestly Roy is by far the strongest interior defender right now. He just plays so much smarter than most of his opponents and without him the Pacers couldn’t play with so much pressure at the perimeter.
If Dwight gets it going like in december he has a shot too but he is still way to inconsistend for me. After 3 or 4 games netting 22 and 15 he fouls out in the next with 8 and 5.
Ibaka has improved too and is a better rebounder now. Still not elite but people often forget the Thunder are the best rebounding team in the League and he leads the Thunder so this is not bad at all but his progress is still not enough to earn him DPOY even if he averages 3.1 bpg over the last three seasons.
DeAndre is truely a beast this year. I’m glad Doc found a way to buy him into a bigger role as the defensive anchor and as a leader too. I might have never seen a 6’11" guy as strong as him running down the court or jumping so so high so easily as him. A fantastic athlete and his prime is still a few years away but this time I’ll take Hibbert.

FastAndFuriousParticipantXYRYX, I agreed with Hibbert as I forgot about him(IDK How lol) but Deandre definently has a chance to win, I don’t think it’s a wide margin, if the Clippers can gel together and finish top 3 in the West and Deandre keeps his play up, I think Deandre could win the award.

XYRYXParticipantThat’s a big if. I really have my doubts the Clippers finish top 4 this year with Paul out for so long. This is a serious injury and his mobility is minimal over the next weeks. He might need some time to get in shape or find his touch again.
With that beeing said, I highly doubt without him the Clippers do better than the red hot Warriors, the Spurs and Thunder, even without Westbrook. The Blazers might lose a few too but if we talk about if a team gels talk Portland please. How good is Lillard please! I really need to think twice if Inhad to chose between him and Kyrie. Aside from his incredible outside shooting he now takes more pride on the defensive end.
Last but not least I believe the Mavs will make a run around All Star break. They always have been a team who had runs. The Clippers might even have to fight the Suns for a Playoff spot and there is no way DeAndre gets voted over probably the best team in the league right now and the leagues best defensive anchor.

Chilbert arenasParticipantI’m a big DJ fan and as much as I want him to be the DPOY I don’t think he’s there yet. Funny how Ibaka isn’t in this conversation anymore and neither is Tony Allen considering how mediocre the Grizzlies have been. I would love to see a non-center win it this year but it’s become a big man award.

FastAndFuriousParticipantI agree with all that, really do, I was just throwing out there it’s still a chance for DeAndre to win it, if the cards fall the right way.

Champzilla21ParticipantIm a huge Deandre fan but in no way do i think hes the best Defensive player in the enitre league. Hes still late to often on rotations and yes he has monster Reb totals but he rarely gives a good box out simply trying to out jump everyone (which he can)and gives up some easy Off rebs. They are ranked 21 in pick and roll D, he does a great job on corraling pgs of the bounce but hes easy to get jumpin for a foul and hes also jumpy when it comes to weak side D. Yes he gets highlight real blks but the rest of the game people just dump it off to his man and puts the clips at a disadvantage

Hector_Reyes_8ParticipantI don’t see the connection between rebounds and DPOY. Does this mean that Lee has a shot at the DPOY? Great defense isn’t always shown on the stay sheet. Nobody has mentioned Noah, and that is just wrong. Block numbers don’t translate to great defense either. McGee is a prime example.

Tune SquadParticipantHe needs to be in this conversation too. In fact he is my choice for DPOY.
He is averaging close to 5 combined blocks and steals, including a league leading 3.2 blks (.5 more than anyone). He is the only player in the top 20 in blocks, steals and rebounds. Also he can guard more positions and has to change at least as many shots as Jordan/ Hibbert with his mobility.
The most impressive part to me is that he does this while being his teams main offensive weapon as well.

Prime TimeParticipantThe Pelicans don’t have the best record, but Davis is my current pick for DPOY, well. He gets over 3 bpg and 1.5 spg.
Im a fan of Hibbert and DJ, but Davis has more defensive versatility and he is putting up crazy stats.

Champzilla21ParticipantRebounds and defense go hand in hand i dont see how you dont get that. The defenisve possesion isnt over untill you secure the ball. If your constantly out of position or have no desire to go and get it you’re obviously not helping the team.

Hector_Reyes_8ParticipantAccording to this, a horrible defensive big man like Lee can contribute to defense by getting the ball? That’s his contribution to defense? I don’t see how going for a rebound means a great defender. Allen doesn’t have big rebound totals. Iggy doesn’t have big rebound totals either. Holy crap, I forgot Iggy. Is is a MUCH better defender than anyone mentioned, except probably PG24. DJ goes for blocks, he isn’t disciplined like the best defensive ( IMO ) today – Tim Duncan.

Jester87ParticipantDeAndre Jordan is a terrible defender. He blocks shots, but he always jumps out of fakes, he’s often out of position and he doesn’t have any grasp of the very basic defensive schemes. Opponents shoot 52.2% at the rim against him. If you need a comparison against Hibbert they average 40.4%. The Clippers allow 101 points per 100 possessions with him on the court, 99 when he’s off. When opposing teams run pick and rolls he’s all over the place. When drivers beat their man off the dribble he usually over-rotates and he’s too aggressive. He’s always trying to block shots even when he doesn’t really have a chance. He still has a long way to go and I’m not that positive he will ever put all the pieces together (though he seems to have shown some improvements in the last month before Paul’s injury). Luckily this award doesn’t go to shot-blockers only anymore, voters are getting a little smarter. Right now the best defender in the league is by far Hibbert, you can really build a nice defense just having him playing for you.

JoeWolf1He’s vastly improved. He currently leads the league in rebounds per game, defensive rebounds, feild goal percenage and is 2nd in defensive win shares. He’s 3rd in the league in blocks per game, and I think this season there is far less to nit pick defensively on him, when compared to the last two.
Is he DPOTY this year? Na, my vote would go for Roy Hibbert or his teammate Paul George, but I don’t think it’s fair to call Jordan a horrible defender anymore. He’s much improved, and I don’t think he’s done getting better, now that Doc is in town. I think there is a very direct correlation.
