 In Chad Ford’s latest mock draft, regarding Bembry, he said, "Bembry continues to draw praise from every team that sees him. In a draft filled with ‘potential,’ there are few players who can actually play the game as well as he can."

The way Chad Ford worded that, it seemed like he is trying to call Bembry a high floor low ceiling guy. I’ve watched him a lot at Saint Joe’s and this guy is the total package except he can’t shoot the ball. If he could shoot, he probably would’ve been a big time recruit. He needs to work on his ball-handling when he gets to the pros, but athletically there aren’t many guys in his draft that are better athletes than him, and very few players with a better feel for the game than him. I think he’s the second best player in transition in this draft behind Simmons. People give him flack for his motor, but the dude led the country in minutes per game as a sophomore and was up there as a junior, as a freshman when he was only playing 30 his motor was certainly there. He’s got an NBA ready body and can contribute from day 1.

 I think he could end up being the steal of the draft as he is now, and if that jumper comes along (its not broken but he has huge hands that hurts him), he’s an all-star. What’s the opinion on here of Bembry?

 I love Bembry and think if he can improve his shot he could be a very solid starter. I’m really interested to see where he goes because he will go to a good team and could end up playing a nice role off the bench. I love guys that have a great feel for the game and his athleticism makes it even more likely he’ll be a solid NBA player.

Don’t agree. He’s a guy that will never more than a 4th or 5th option. Doesn’t possess the length and/or ability to create off the bounce. Think he will be a useful role player but can’t imagine him being an all star as a 6’5" small forward who can’t shoot or dribble

 Personally I don’t think he’ll be an all star but if you can get a 4th or 5th option in the 20’s that would be one of the better steals of the draft. I see him more as a really good 6th man for a good team which is still really good value where he’s projected.

He has good length, maybe not crazy length, but I wouldn’t classify a guy 6’6" with 6’9" arms as not possessing length. Also I think he’s better at creating off the bounce than scouts give him credit for.

The overall point I never made but should clarify is I think there is a misunderstanding of what potential is and that leads teams to take a guy like Skal in the lottery while guys like Draymond Green falls to 35. I have noticed over the years that a lot of draft steals are guys that scouts think will definitely be solid role players but don’t have star potential. And I think DeAndre is one of these guys. We all have our opinions on a guy, for instance you and I differ on Bembry, but across the board I think there’s a lot of players who people are afraid to say "this guy is the next big thing" if he’s not drafted in the top 10.

You can point to some guys like Jimmy Butler who came in to the league at 22 and learned to shoot, but even he was a good free throw shooter in college. Bembry shot 63% from the line and 31% from 3. His passing is a nice bonus, I could see him being a poor man’s Andre Iguodala in the pros.

 Hes gonna be like Iggy.  Hes still only 21 and avg basically 18, 8 and 5, shot 55% from 2,  while playing great defense for a small school that didnt push the pace.

 

  Had he played for a team like UNC hed be a clear lotto talent.  He can guard 1-3 and start fro day one. Bembry is a surefire cog
