i dont think he’s worth 12 mil a year personally. I think with 2 1st round picks in a deep draft…wait till the offseason and then if you can get someone who can potentially be better….do it

i read they offered him 3 yrs 36 million which is 12 a year, but not as long as gay wants. I think Gay is good, but he’s a level below all-star.

it shows 3 first round picks in the next draft, but one of those picks just says protected…does that mean memphis won’t get the pick haynes?

I would not sign him this year because in honesty where will he go. New York will not be that stupid to sign him when they have Chandler who is a cheaper slightly less athletic subsitute plus with AI and Zach, he will not get better offensive stats. He better learn how to defend.

Why sign him? Let the year play out and see how well he does. Even if he does well, the teams with lots of capspace are going to be going after the all stars. There is a chance Memphis could get him for a fair price if they wait as long as they don’t try to outbid against themselves. Besides 12 million a year is way too much for him.

I like Rudy Gay and think he can be an all star a few times but Memphis has all the leverage. Why sign him to 12 mil a year, when chances are you can a) replace him in the draft for a cheaper alternative, b) see what he is worth on the open market next summer and bid against other teams. He might be wanting 12 mil a year but he is probably closer to 9 to 10 mil a season as of now.

Guys, Here it here first…………………Give the man the money he wants now, because after those 5 yrs on his contract end people will be thinking Memphis got him for nickles, He is a M.A.X. player.

    I dont think he’s a max player…he’s a tad overrated.

He’s not the best player on Memphis…he can be traded/replaced

plus he would be a RFA so you can match deals for him anyway

I think he is worth the money but watching this team play so far this year it seems as though he is the 4th option behind mayo, randolph and even gasol he isnt as aggressive as i have seen him in the past couple of years i know its the beginning of the season so things can change. But i do think he is worth the money he has put up pretty good numbers in the past and he is only going to get better.

    Chicago1980, valid point.

Guys you are seeing Gay score near 20 a game, on 8-10 shots which shows you just how incredible he is offensively, hes getting bench player shots attempted and scoring 20 per. If Mem. was smart they would make it clear that Gay is the leader and go-to-guy while they still have him.

There is not enough money out there for him to be a max player. My thing is unless he is Kobe, Wade, or Lebron, a player does not deserve the match. A max player can carry a team but a talented player feels a role. Gay has nowhere to go so he can’t demand anything and if they think if signing him for less will be a problem because he will act ignorant, they can work a sign and trade or not sign him and draft well in a potential great draft. Honestly there are not many things that could use him and give him minutes. New Orleans is one but they don’t have money. Gay plays a position that there is a lot of talent at. I mean most teams have 2 to 3 great swingman and college is packed with swingman or undersized 4’s who can play the 3. Anything over 10 million for Gay would be too much especially in this economy. Also after the new league contract hopefully without a lockout, Gay will probably not be able to get that much money.

he is a lesser iguodala who is getting from 12 mill this year to 15 in a few years, gay deserves something from like 8 or 9 escalating up to maybe 12. he may want to wait if he thinks he is about to have a breakout year but i think he better get money now before mayo takes over the team
