    http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2011/10/14/2486332/david-stern-nba-lockout-2011

With Commissioner David Stern doing his own version of barnstorming at various media outlets the past couple of days, I found this article to be a pretty good read. Fans are so quick to jump all over the players or the NBAPA for not jumping on a deal, but its always two sides to a story.

By the way, my bad if this is a repost.

I disagree with this article, if I were an owner, I wouldn’t be happy if I were losing money and I would want to change things to make it so my business was profitable. The owners aren’t in the business to loss money or even to just break even, they are in the business to make money. The last CBA proved to be a bad deal, 22 out of the 30 teams were losing money, the CBA needs to be changed so the teams can be profitable. The new deal Stern and the NBA were/are offering would still allow the players salaries to increase and the average would go from 5 million to 7 million, it’s not as though the players are being asked to take a pay cut.  The players are being unrealistic, proud, arrogant and obnoxious.  The owners want a CBA that allows both paries to make money, there is plenty to go around.

As far as the system is concerned it too needs to be changed, the current system allows the big market teams to much of an advantage.

Barkley has even commented that the owners want things changed so there is more competitive ballance and small market teams can keep their star players.  He thinks that is needed and so do I.  If I were an owner I would tell the players , you work for me, not the other way around. If you want a job that pays millions I’ve got one for you , but we (owners) make the rules not the players. It is a joke for the players to think they can dictate the rules.

Clearly you don’t understand the "ENTERTAINMENT" business… There is a reason you have rappers and producers now going around the A&R n "Labels"… You don’t need them… YOU ARE THE PRODUCT…  This isn’t a McDonalds job… It’s no way near the same… The ish only works if its a regular job… The league is a player DRIVEN league…  Since Stern arrived and made it that way with Magic and Bird THEN MJ that’s the way it will always be…   They are the product…  Players see all that money owners are making, knowing the owners really don’t provide any services… Hell the owners don’t even own the arenas the play in…  Come on be serious…  I will say the owners taking the most risks, but they also receiving majority of the cut already… And it’s no loyalty in the BUSINESS of basketball, a team will cut you with the quickness…  I don’t see why anyone would think the players are wrong for looking for they cut since they are the PRODUCT…

Everything else you said with small market teams is true though…. I agree

I agree the players are the product but they are already getting the bigger piece of the pie, 57% in the last CBA. It’s not as tough the owners are asking the players to take a cut in pay etc They owners are the ones taking the risk and they want things to be fair and profitable, if it’s not profitable why even be in the business? I don’t really care how something is done NOW, if it isn’t fair or right, it needs to be changed.  The unions throughout the USA are out of touch with reality, they want more and more and more and they don’t care how much it costs for them to get  it. The cost of things/ products/ goods/ tickets etc are as high as they are because unions keep demanding more & more & more, it has to change. There needs to be a fair balance, a happy medium that is fair and where all parties can benifit. That is all the owners are wanting, fairness and profitablity.  The players want the same old system even though it is a bad system and the new system proposed isn’t bad and but it does create more competive balance and allows the smaller market teams to hang on to their star players and be more competitive.

A 50/50 split would be good as the owners take all the risk and have to pay for everything that is required to put the product out to the public. The players just want to say we don’t want to lose what we have gained, it doesn’ matter if things are fair or profitable , it doesn’t matter if owners are losing money, they just want what they want. There is plenty to go around in this business, ticket prices are already way to high, the players make millions, the compromise they are being asked to make, makes sense and would make the teams financially sound , which would be good for he future of the league.

See here’s the problem you don’t seem to understand… I think you looking at it from YOUR perspective not a BUSINESS prospective…  No one isn’t saying the owners shouldn’t be making money… You have to go in and read the bylaws and what not…   Because this isn’t about players contracts, I hope people understand this…  This is the price for jersey’s, tv contracts, network etc… A similar situation to the NFL… When the NFL signed the big a$$ TV contract they played the NFL’s players because they were "suppose" to get a cut from that…  Which they didn’t as far as I remember…  The NBA owners are basically trying to put their hands in both of the players pockets right now… Their contracts and their "commission"… The players aren’t stupid… By taking the deal that the owners are offering, the players will lose a great deal of money…  The owners will more than double their profits…  You talking 50 Million per already for lets say Miami’s owner… That’s ridiculous…  But like I said LOOK around… Every department of entertainment is doing away with "Major Corporations" backing them… With YouTube and other social networking sites you don’t need them… There will be a major uproar next bargaining agreement for both the NFL and NBA… I see it already… Technology is moving so fast right now its going to be hard for players to continue to listen to these owners, when they can keep the money for themselves…
