I have seen in years. The guy said after the draft he didn’t know who his best player was. I guess Al Jefferson never showed himself to be that guy. He could have traded Jefferson for Granger in the middle of last season and didn’t. To follow that, he trades Jefferson for 2 low 1st rounders. He was enamored with Rubio enough not to package the 5th and 6th pick to try to get one great player. As we speak, his roster has 4 small forwards in Beasley, Johnson, Brewer, and Webster and 3 point guards in Sessions, Flynn, and Ridnour. At least Webber went light on him he didn’t extol the greatness of his career in comparison to Milicic. I think being Rookie of the Year and dunking on Barkley made Webber comfortable as a NBA player. Kevin Love is the only solid rebounder the team has. In addition, Kahn is stuck in a holding pattern of saying improvement takes time while the Thunder and Kings are setting the standard for improvement. If that team wins 20 games in the West they will be lucky but Kahn shouldn’t be lucky enough to keep his job.

As I recall, it wasn’t that Kahn didn’t want to trade Jefferson for Granger. Kahn suggested the trade to Indiana, and was rebuffed by Bird…no one in the league wanted to give up anything of value for Al Jefferson. That said, Kahn is an awful GM…why Ridnour? I will never understand.

Comparing Darko to C-Web should easily be enough to get somebody fired in the NBA.He makes Minnesota look like a dirt ran organization that is committed to failure. They arent going anywhere this year either..They arent going anywhere if they get a 1st Overall Draft Pick next year. They are hurting.

that interview was rough to watch. He is talking about the weight room and how they eat breakfast and lunch together? Darko is arguably the best passing big man ever? uhm, arvydas sabonis anyone? Compares darko and cwebb? Kahn is really hard to defend right now as a gm.

Good breakdown of this incredibly awkward interview. It is hard to judge a GM after one year (and 15 wins), but it just does not seem like he is necessarily on top of his basketball history. Minnesota should be better than last year, but is this a team that will compete in the future. For as much as he is saying they are changing the culture of the team, is this a culture more players will buy into? Also, as solid of a player as Wesley Johnson might be, what good is it for him for you to clog the wing? I said they should have gambled on DeMarcus Cousins, and maybe he would not fit into their system, but odds are he will make them look bad playing in Sacramento. His moves are just super confusing, the most confusing things I have seen of any GM since, sorry to say, Elgin Baylor. Even Elgin when he drafted 3 PF’s in the same draft and made bad pick after bad pick seemed to at least sometimes have some sort of a plan. As much as I love Kevin Love, and I know this was BK (Before Kahn), they should not have traded him for OJ Mayo. Kevin is a beast, but Mayo is all in all the better player and the one who would be that franchise leader, he will get you more wins. Kevin vs. Jefferson is pretty much a wash, especially since Kevin will probably not sign for as ridiculous of a contract and is just a better all-around basketball player, but I never thought that combo would work, and they could have definitely used an SG. Rubio could definitely turn out to be a great pick, in fact he likely will give them some identity when he finally comes over, but that is still most likely 2 years! If Kahn can keep his job until than, and Kevin Pritchard can lose his on a team that went from 32-50 to above .500 for three years and two play-off appearances through numerous injuries, I mean, what does that mean? Does anyone have any faith in this guy?

I guess out of that you say that two of them, Beasley and Rubio were expected to be fringe All-Stars. Kevin could make an All-Star team based off of his ability to get double doubles, but I am guessing he will never be considered a top PF in the league just because of his lack of defensive presence. He is a good athlete for a player his size, I mean, he jumped 35, but honestly, he would be on the bottom end of PF’s as far as speed and quickness. Plus, Kevin is a ticking timebomb for injuries, I hope he never gets hurt, but it is always a worry. Than you have Wesley Johnson, who looks like he could be a stud, but how good will he really be? Is he a top flight SF? Where will he play in this scenario with Beasley and Love? Is he quick enough to guard 2’s? Can he shoot well enough to be a threat at 2? My point is, who amongst these players really stands out as a team leader. If you say Rubio, than will he be like a Nash type facillitator. He has a lot more tools on defense than Nash with his length and is quicker, but the guy will never be the shooter Steve Nash is. I am not knocking Rubio as a shooter, but it is just not realistic.

If Michael Beasley and Kevin Love play the 3/4, the Wolves have two major defensive issues. Unless Beasley somehow turns around and starts averaging 22-25 per game, anything less does not get the job done. Rubio has the most potential to be a top player, and even at his best, the West at this point has many players who will most likely be better than Ricky at PG for a long time (Westbrook, Paul, Williams, Curry). I just do not see these four players being near the top in the league, two have yet to play and the other two have major holes in their game. Kevin put’s up huge and efficient numbers, but I still think most nights his check will play just as well as he does. It just seems like the Wolves are trying to become a less athletic, slower paced version of the Warriors. I mean, if you are trying to follow the Don Nelson model of confusing personnel choices at least go after the Mavericks, who made a few gambles and paid off. It seems like Kahn is trying to play it safe in some ways, and that is a way to get majorly burnt.

The whole Darko/Webber comparison is mind blowing. It felt like Kahn would’ve compared Darko to whomever was interviewing him at the time.

Kahn was not compareing Webber to Darko, he was trying say that it takes a couple of years for a guy to figure out how to play in the league. He was wrong in that fact becasue Webber was good from the get go, but he was not comparing the two.

yeah, getting beasley was pretty nice. But the rest sux. He is wasting money, his drafts are mostly busts and everything they keep doing is trading their good players for picks. They won’t move forward like this.

If David Kahn was in high school, would he be:

    A) The kid who makes jokes that nobody ever laughs at. Ever.

    B) The kid who sits by himself at lunch, then declines an offer to sit with the nerdy kids because he’s “too cool.”

    C) The kid who takes gym class way too seriously, especially when you consider the fact that he sucks at every sport.

    D) A combination of A,B, and C.

Homers are too cool for words. During a debate, they always support their favorite team, no matter what happens. Very loyal, in my opinion. But, when a player/personnel on their team is proven to be a bust/idiot, then they just call you a name and walk away.

Kahn really does not know what he is doing. Al Jefferson was still a 20 10 guy and if they had not gotten Beasley for basically nothing then people would really be knocking Kahn more this off season. I think the Darko thing could pan out but not because of Kahn genius but pure blind luck. They are not expected Darko to be Shaq but 10 pt 10 rb 1.5 blocks would have us saying that Darko was not a bad pick up mainly because right now big men as a whole are not doing that great but just serviceable so it would be hard for Darko to fail if they play a faster pace and give him minutes. consistent 30 minutes and touches would make it hard for Darko to not put up those stats I mentioned but they does not mean he is the next great big man but a serviceable Center which is better than most teams have.

They have all those small forwards and none of them is really great but Wesley Johnson may wind up being better than average since his game is probably more geared for the NBA than college and he can shoot for the perimeter and is athletic. Beasley is their best 4 man but he may have to play behind Love.
They have no good 2 man and their point guards are above average but not great. Ridnour pick up is solid though.

Kahn got Beasley for a bag of chips, but then turned around and gave up a legit 20 and 10 power forward for a bag of chips in return.

Hey you never know maybe next year they pick up Kanter and he can play some C.

    Rubio
    Johnson
    Beasley
    Love
    Kanter

    Flynn
    Milicic
    Hayward
    Ridnour
    Pekovic
    Bjelica

Youve got yourself a good young core their. I think that this core was not created because Kahn was a good GM I honestly believe there is just so much talent in the NBA that you can look at any team (aside from Cleveland) and like their talent level and potential.

Also it looks like they will get a Top 5 draft pick for Rubio next year so maybe Ricky Rubio goes to Toronto?Dont sleep on Bryan Collengelo, he may go looking for that Steve Nash piece to recreate his Phoenix Suns.

The Wolves will be able to use that trade exception on a player like Like Deng, Iguodala or even Kevin Martin if they choose to. The fact is there are many teams willing to sell of high price contracts and the Wolves are in position to take advantage of it.

Yeah he’s been stocking a lot of draft picks…but it don’t mean anything if you continue to have horrible drafts. I really think that he is expecting Ricky Rubio to take the league by storm and become a savior for the T-Wolves, and its clear and evident…that HE DOESN’T WANT TO PLAY IN MINNESOTA! If Rubio would have went anywhere else, he probably would have found a away out of that international deal instead of signing for two more years. I think Rubio is going to be a great PG, but not even his talents can save Minnesota from this putz.

Always seems to take the defensive. I know his moves have been heavily scrutinized, but they are incredibly unorthodox and Minnesota has been judged like crazy ever since they traded Kevin Garnett. I think Kahn needs to take a calmer approach and let his players games do the talking, but at the same time I think he is trying to prove his worth to everybody. He is trying to prove they are good moves to himself as much as he is trying to prove they are good moves to everyone else. As you can see from when he is interviewed, it is a major struggle. I for one do not think the Darko deal is as horrible as everyone makes it out to be, but I think you can understand why it was grilled. Than, with most of his other trades, it seems like he is taking risks on a lot of players who have yet to live up to their potential as well. So, when people see as many variables as the Wolves currently have, really without a proven player on their roster at this point (by proven I mean to either have lived up to their full potential or as a solid leader of a team) than obviously it makes the Timberwolves and the constructor of the team David Kahn an easy target.
