David Kahn believes the rebuilding phase is now complete

David Kahn had an interesting comment to the Star Tribune’s Jerry Zgoda on Thursday.
"There is no more rebuilding," said Kahn. "There are no more wholesale changes. I like a lot of players on the team."
Minnesota currently has a 13-43 record, which gives them the worst winning percentage in the Western Conference. They rank 24th in points scored per 100 possessions and 28th in points allowed per 1000 possessions.

He is not officially done until he feels he has Rubio. He wants his future based around Rubio & Love, if he could he would trade anyone from off that roster, but I don’t expect him to make any power moves until Rubio "comes over".

I actually think he has a decent point. He has a very young roster, barring Darko, so if Rubio comes over I see now reason why they shouldn’t just lock in with their current team and see about growing together instead of making moves. Darko, Love, Beasley, Rubio is a solid group to build around for the future. If they just sort out their SG situation they’ll be fine.

It would be weird if they re-acquire Mayo again which I do not rule out since they desperately need a 2. They would have 4 players on the roster from the 2007 HS class if they don’t ship Flynn.

Give them time, just like OKC took that big leap, any of these young talented teams are capable of doing the same. It all depends on Rubio, because a legitimate playmaking PG is going to be extremely beneficial for the Wolves. I wouldn’t mind seeing a change in coaching too, because Rambis has no credibility after backing down to Love’s complaints about being benched for defensive laziness.

That’s why they need a defensive minded coach to come in, none of these players lack athleticism required to play D, they just need better coaching. However, the coach needs to have the support of the organisation in instituting these changes, because a shift in defensive mind-set would mean big things for the Timberwolves. Just look at the Bulls, they are without Noah mostly, have Boozer as their starting PF and Rose isn’t what you’d call a great defender. However, Thibs did a great job getting them on board and right now they are a top 4 defensive team.

Not saying it was Rambis’ choice to back down, it was obvious the organisation forced him, but regardless of the cause, the end result was that he backed down. His credibility is compromisedbecause Love knows the organisation has his back. They need to bring in a respected coach and actually support him over the players, someone who has proven success, a first-time coach won’t do here.
@Indiana Basketball; do you think they could be built in the way of the Detroit Pistons, a bunch of borderline-stars who fit well together? I think with the right coaching and attitude from the organisation it could happen. Though, I still think it could work with Beasley as 1st option in time.

Instead he complained and started talking about being traded. Rambis is a first time head coach, but like Thibs, comes from a respected/successful organization.
Those Piston teams were built with tough minded guys who played defense like a hungry dog on a bone… Do you see any player on the Timberwolves that resembles that?

You’re completely right about the difference between Rose and Love, but the problem is that the Timberwolves aren’t the major market team the Bulls are so even a player of Love’s level can have his way with the organisation. It’s hard for the organisation to say they’ll back Rambis as a first-time coach over their "star" when he hasn’t achieved much and Minnesota isn’t the desired destination Chicago is.
Hence, my belief that a respected coach is the only answer, if they bring in someone like Jerry Sloan they’ll be confident he can bring results and take a firmer stance against whiny players.
Thanks for clearing up the Pistons situation, they are the only team I could think of without a legit superstar that was successful recently, but I wasn’t really watching NBA then so didn’t know too much about how they went about it.
