Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantAfter the debacle in LA I never thought I’d see him get another NBA job. Apparently the rockets are still believers though. I know his preferred style of play seems to fit well with what Houston wants to do from an analytics standpoint, but I’m not really sure about this. Houston was awful defensively last season, and I doubt D’Antoni will be able to do much to correct that.
D’Antoni and Phoenix were no doubt at the forefront of the small ball and pace and space era. He had the absolutely perfect roster and players in Nash, stoudemire and marion to make that style effective. However, he hasn’t come close to duplicating that level of success anywhere since. The rest of the league has kind of caught up and his style of play is no longer really revolutionary. He has yet to prove he can adapt and win with a roster that is not perfectly suited to what we wants to do and I’m not sure Houston’s roster is. I think this definitively puts an end to the Dwight Howard era in Houston. I doubt he’d have any interest in playing for D’Antoni again.
Just a weird hire imo but it could work I guess. What are everyone’s thoughts?

220ParticipantI think D’Antoni embraces much of what Darryl Morey wants in a coach. He embraces players bombing away from the three point line and he seems to embrace the analytical movement as well. All that being said outside of his job in Phoenix I haven’t seen anything that would make me believe he’s a worthy candidate. I wonder if he can get James Harden to dribble less to embrace a faster paced offense.

bmac697ParticipantI guess it’s safe to say Dwight Howard won’t be back next year.

ExumInfernoParticipantHoward is gone, Harden leads the NBA in scoring, Dekker plays more games, all of this seems certain.
Playoffs, they might struggle unless they bring in some more help.
Might be fun to watch.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantD’antoni isn’t concerned about defense…Neither is his main player(Harden) this gives him an excuse to keep not playing any…It also kind of Pushes Howard further out the door(but I think his media comments already did that)
I expect D’antoni to possibly put Harden at the PG spot or they bring back J-lin for cheap while keeping Harden at the SG spot(NYK connection with D’antoni/knows his system) and Morey to fill this roster up with shooters such as:Ryan Anderson,Joe johnson, Evan Fournier and maybe Chandler parsons(if he leaves Dallas) which will give D’antoni the players for his system…

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantAt least they know what they are and want to be.
Plus, this opens the door to us seeing Houston give Jeremy Lin another awful contract.
