Open Letter to Fans from Cavaliers Majority Owner Dan Gilbert
Print RSS Cavs Insider DiscussDear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;
As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.
This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his “decision” unlike anything ever “witnessed” in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.
Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.
The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.
There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.
You simply don’t deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.
You have given so much and deserve so much more.
In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:
“I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE”
You can take it to the bank.
If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our “motivation” to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.
Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.
Sorry, but that’s simply not how it works.
This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown “chosen one” sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And “who” we would want them to grow-up to become.
But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called “curse” on Cleveland, Ohio.
The self-declared former “King” will be taking the “curse” with him down south. And until he does “right” by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.
Just watch.
Sleep well, Cleveland.
Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day….
I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:
DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue….
Dan Gilbert
Majority Owner
Cleveland CavaliersSome harsh words for the King. But its not nice to lie to your fans. Win a championship before he does? Id like to know how.

BlackMamba24ParticipantWell those are his rights especially after Lebron didnt talk to him to notify him of the decision he had made

WizardofOzParticipantThe Cavs will never win a championship before the “King” does. With Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, the Heat are probably most peoples favorites to win a championship next season, so what makes Dan Gilbert think that the Cavs can win a championship with the roster they currently have before D-Wade, CB4, and King James do. IMO, the Cavs are guaranteed to be under .500 next season with the current roster they have if they don’t make any major moves.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantwhat an idiotic statement. Cavs will never win a title. I’m sure James will win at least one in Miami.

BlackMamba24ParticipantWhat would LBJ think if the cavs did win one before Lebron did

LOL Good Luck on that one. Cleveland isnt that place that big time free agents want to come play as weve seen so theyll need to build through the draft and trades. Too bad they have no assets to trade besides jj hickson which really isnt much at all. Theyre on the fast track to a few big time prospects since they should have a top 5 pick next year most likely.
I dont wanna bash the cavs too much but they really did this to themselves by not getting lebron another all star caliber player (and no i do not count mo williams as an allstar even though he made it in 09). I just feel bad for the cleveland fans. There really is no hope at all for that city sportswise and now especially for the cavs.

sheltwon3ParticipantDan Gilbert is bitter and if he was in the same position to be stuck in a player where you will never see true success or leave he would be gone. I doubt he made his money by doing everything to make people from his hometown happy. Is Dan Gilbert even from Cleveland?
That guilt trip stuff they were doing to Lebron was a joke.
I am glad he left to show people that stuff does not work.
That is like if I told you that you could leave your job that is in your hometown to work with your best friends and have a more successful career but you have to take a slight pay cut and make more money but your career never takes off.
When you get old that extra money will mean nothing but you will look back at the missed opportunity

sheltwon3ParticipantHow in the world could Cleveland win a ring before the Miami trio does. Come on some of you guys are not making sense.
I understand people are emotional but realistically that will never happen.
That could not build a winner with James so how could they do it now when no one wants to go there.
They don’t have a history of drafting well.

BlackMamba24ParticipantIm just making a point, I never said that they would win one before these guys do….They won’t beat the Lakers and I can bet u that…What, Lebron gonna guard Pau?

topscoutParticipantThis is a business I don’t feel sorry 4 this owner..owners trade away loyal players every year when they beome old and/or is no longer useful 2 there team so y can’t a player leave when a organization is no longer helpful 4 him
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/08/2010 - 6:14pm #349727
NYK2010ParticipantWait till the Heat make some more moves first.
Bosh will be guarding Gasol but who will be guarding Bynum.
Also Kobe and other dominant wing players will have to guard Wade or Lebron pick your poison.0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/08/2010 - 6:16pm #349730
BlackMamba24ParticipantWell, IF they play the Lakers, Artest will guard lebron and Kobe will play Wade
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/08/2010 - 6:18pm #349734

sheltwon3ParticipantMiami will need to add more pieces to beat Lakers and it is not happening this coming season. Lakers have chemistry and depth over Miami.

gregoden08ParticipantLeBron meant so much to Cleavland. He leaves and now everything he ever did didn’t matter? Now they burn his jersey and even the OWNER disses him and references him as the “self-proclaimed king”? What a freaking joke…LeBron brought that city a Finals appearance and multiple number one seeds. Yes, he didn’t win a championship, but it’s not his fault management absolutely sucks and they overpay for shooters who can’t shoot in the playoffs.
Loser Cleavland fans get over it…HE DOESN’T WANT TO PLAY FOR A TEAM THAT CAN’T WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP…Have fun for the next 10 years and being a piece of crap team…

0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/08/2010 - 6:52pm #349790

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantLebron made Cleveland Cavaliers relevant. They should thank him for the millions of dollars he brought to the state. All those seats you see in Quicken Loans will be empty.
