As much as I thought it was a joke when I saw reports of Dampier being interested in offers from the Raptors it is starting to look a little realistic. For whatever reason Dampier is looking like he is considering Toronto as a favourite in his Free Agency recruiting. Maybe Dampier believes playing on a weaker NBA team in the Eastern conference for a year he has a better oppurtunity to put up better stats and play more minutes, which could ultimatley lead to a better NBA contract after the CBA.

Dampier met with Toronto GM Bryan Colangelo and sat at the Raptors training-camp amongst the players and coaches to get a feel of the team and organization.

Toronto could really use his help if they want any chance in competing for a playoff spot. They will also definitely need Sonny Weems and Amir Johnson to develop into complete players for at least 25 mpg and Demar Derozan to emerge as a good young player and a immediate scoring option.

With Calderon, Barbosa, Klieza, Davis, Johnson, Anderson, coming off the bench their second unit would be pretty good. They need to establish good starting play from Derozan, Klieza and Bargnani if they want to be successful. Hopefully Dampier engages these actions by signing with the Raptors.

Im a big Raps fan, as much as we need a big defensive center, Im more for a rebuild not a 1 year veteren piece to maybe sneak into the playoffs. Unless the plan is to move him at the deadline for a pick or expiring I say play the young guys, get a high pick and overpay if you have to but get one of the bigs(Horford,Gasol) via the FA. The Raps are not in as bad as shape as many people think.

It’s a stupid idea to bring in Erica.

The Raptors need a fresh start.  They need to let the young guys play and develop.  Erica Dampier isn’t exactly a veteran leader you would want to develop your young bigs.  He isn’t exactly a high character guy and he only played hard when he’s on a contract.

I just don’t see any reason why the Raptors would need a guy like Erica.  The current 15 players on the roster is good enough for a losing season.  Erica may be motivated to play well on a one year contract, but he’s really not gonna help a team that is destined for the lottery.

I think the Raps should take Dampier just so they dont get as embarassed this season like NJ last year.

he will make them a better team but the raptors will still be shit lol.

No way in hell the Raptors do anything like what the Nets did last year..thats just silly. As for your opinions on Dampier I agree, signing dampier isnt going to help our young bigs or our team even if we do attempt a playoff run. We need to build through the draft and pray we can get a nice young FA next year to rebuild with. We have all the supporting cast pieces, if we can Draft a Top 3 Rookie, that could make it more appealing for a star to be signed and also use the 14.5 Mil TE to trade for a star Toronto should be competing for a Playoff spot in the East in one year.

Colangelo has all the peices to succeed, lets see how he messes this one up.

erica dampier, he would be a good player in the wnba.

lmao, shaq said something like that a few years ago when dampier siad he was the best center in the nba.

alot of teams could use dampier, the raptors one of them but why not be horrible and get a top 5 pick. dampier needs to go to a team like atlanta, where he could maybe help in the playoffs.

The biggest benefit I could see in bringing in Dampier is it would allow Bargnani to play at the 4 which may be a little better for him. Of course, they did just spend big money on Amir Johnson and they’ll want to get their money’s worth out of him, so I’m not 100% sold on this idea either. Not that i think it’s a bad move necessarily, but it may not be the best move for either the team or player.

Wait a minute,  Raptors missed the playoffs by 1 game last year, they had an over rated star player, they got better defensively, and now everyone thinks they are going to win 15 games?
