Has anyone seen Damian Lillard play extensively? He’s leading the NCAA in scoring handily at the moment at 25.1 ppg along with 5.5 rpg and 3.8 rpg throwing in a few steals and less than 2 turnovers a game.. Listed at 6’3” so not terrible size and is shooting the lights out at a clip of 47.4% fg and 45.8% 3p… Unfortunately I haven’t been able to catch any of his games (seeing as he plays for weber state).. Any consensus on him out there?

Weber State will be on ESPN3 on February 18. I’m assuming Weber State should get a low seed in the tourney. I’d love to see them get like a 13 or 14 seed and maybe upset a team if Lillard goes off. If they get a 15 or 16 seed, they could make a tough out for the first round.

I go to Weber State, but unfortunately I have not gotten a chance to watch him play yet. I have had a lot of homework this semester and work as well. Often times those two things conflict with Weber State’s home games, consequently meaning that I miss them. But there are still two home games left this year that I am going to try and make it to inorder to fully see what Lillard can do and what kind of player he is. I’m gonna try and make it to the game against Eastern Washington on Feb 11, and the bracketbuster game on Feb. 18. Once I go to those games, I’ll post a thread on this site discussing his strengths and weaknesses and what kind of player he is. Hopefully I won’t be too biased but we’ll see how it goes.

I graduated from Weber in April, but still live in the area.  I went to all Weber games in college and still go to all the games.  Lillard is a stud and probably the best college player I’ve seen play live.  I saw Jimmer last year plus Rodney Stuckey play when he played at Eastern Washington.  Lillard is at least on their level.  I met him a few times and I have to say he is one of the most down to earth, nicest guys I know.  He is very humble, coachable, unselfish, and will always praise his teamates and coaches when given the oppertunity.  I may sound like a little bit of a homer, but I truely think he can become a solid point guard in the NBA.

wardb12 – You really need to catch a game while you can.  Lillard is very fun to watch live.

everyone else – /big sky conference games can be watched for free at http://www.bigskyconf.com/sports/2009/8/14/BigSKYTV81509.aspx

I went and watched Lillard play today vs Northern Colorado.  He scored something like 35 points and had a solid overall game.   He looks to be 6’2 or 6’3 and has VERY long arms.  The first half he was scoring off sets and did not do a lot of free lance playmaking.  He shows a good shot off the dribble or off catch and shoot (coming off down screens).  He has somewhat of a low release on his jumper, but it definitely is effective.  In the second half they let him do a little more one on one gettin busy off the dribble.  There was nobody on Northern Colorado (as with most Big Sky teams) that could stay in front of him or get up quick enough to contend his shot.  He grabbed some impressive rebounds and has GREAT body language and leadership skills.  Lillard is a good athlete (not a freak) and looks to have a little bit of a nasty streak to him (definitely a good thing).  He came off many ball screens, but I did not see him split (or even attempt to split) the double off the screen – something I really wanted to see him do.  I also did not see him pull up for a mid range jumper.  In my opinion, he will be a Ramon Sessions type of NBA player.  He will be a solid backup point guard for whoever drafts him and should stick in the NBA for a while.

This guy is just somehow sneaking through under the radar. Wouldnt surprise me if he ended up drafted 15th to 20th this year. He is a special talent, not because he scores 25-ppg, but it is the fashion he does it in. Lillard is a good floor manager, he runs his teams offense very while utilizing his offensive skills to his full potential. Sort of like a cross between Jarrett Jack and youre typical scoring combo gaurd (Lou Williams, Moe Williams). Like a taller Jameer Nelson (when he was good).
