By no means do these comparisons mean the player is as great as the specific player he is being compared to, rather he has a very similar game or possesses the same basketball abilities or close to.

Lebron James- Magic Johnson/Dr J has the unique athletic ability of Dr J being able to do things nobody else can do but has the court awareness of Magic with tremendous court vision and passing for his size

Ray Allen- Reggie Miller both pure shooters and can shoot anyway possible probably the best shooters to ever play in NBA history

Dwayne Wade- a younger Michael Jordan without the refined, consistent, perimeter game, very athletic and also clutch but not as clutch as Jordan when he was older

Kobe Bryant- and older Michael Jordan with the refined post and perimeter game, clutch, confidence and ability to completely crush their opponents will offensively and defensively and take games over, has the will to get better no matter what and was head and shoulders above their competition when it mattered most. Not as athletic as Jordan though even when older

Steve Nash- John Stockton both great, flashy passers, ability to make their teammates better then what they actually are, both great shooters despite their size and pretty quick, able to get up and down the floor, both decently athletic Stockton being the better defender by far though

Chris Paul- Isiah Thomas both great passers with the ability to make their teammates better on the offensive end while also being able to score at will thanks to their quickness, both can get to the rim and finish while also being able to shoot it from the perimeter, Thomas having the height advantage was the better defender due to his length but Paul makes up for his lack of height with toughness and quick hands and feet

Carmelo Anthony- Bernard King both pure scorers, can both score in a variety of ways such as in the post, from the perimeter, getting to the foul line and taking it to the rim, Melo having the better physical build has an easier time bullying his way in the post while King had more finesse and would outsmart you in the post, both solid defenders, decent rebounder and nothing great with passing, were both just focused on scoring the basketball and excelled at it.

Anybody have any other comparisons they would like to share?

May I ask why you think they have different games? Like I said they don’t replicate each other but do have a lot of similarities in their game, just curious about your opinion.

I think that Stockton and Nash have very similar skillsets, but they use them differently. Nash is flashy and high tempo and Stockton was ol’ reliable and old school.

sure, nash is way more likey to shoot either quickly in transition or off balnce or off one foot. Stockton pretty much only took shots when left wide open and had no other choice.

Nash probes defenses more. He drives in and doesnt always come back out with the ball he will circle around the paint and read where the holes are and hit teammates with passes. Stockton was more of a make his move to the rim and make the first pass type. He didnt really dribble around and play with the ball as much. He also would use the pick and roll to hit his teammate quickly. He was to the point with his passing and had no problem holding the ball in one spot while his teammates got free for a pass where nash tends to create the opening off the bounce more.

Stockton was a better defender. He shot the lanes and could body even bigger gaurds more when they tried to get physical. He also is one of the greatest screen setters of all time and was widely regarded as the dirtiest and most physical guard if not player in the league.

These are just my opinons and there are some similarities. I just dont think they played too much alike.

I had to give you a point for mentioning Bernard King….Not many guys on here talk about guys from the 80’s like Bernard King,Ralph Sampson,Sidney Moncrief,Gus Williams or Otis Birdsong..

Hmm good points llperez, very good argument to my post, I just feel both of them have a similar game after watching both of them play, they both play the game the same, both affect their teammates in the same way, both impact the game very similarly and both have similar skill sets. I would prefer Stockton though because like you said he never dribbled around like Nash did and also was a great defender despite his small stature, was able to get a lot of steals and his toughness also helped, he played through anything he was a true warrior.

Thanks Rudeboy though I am fairly young I have always worked hard to find older aged players dating back to the 60s, as a current player I try and be a student of the game and by doing that I try and find film of old games and study players skills, movements and the way they affected or impacted the game, they laid the foundation for the next generation which laid the foundation for todays game. I feel it is important to study players from every generation and implement some of their moves to my own game, Bernard King was one player that I try and copy my game after, his ability to score was truly great and his finesse and moves are often used in my offensive repertoire. I also enjoy watching old/older film because it shows me how far the game has come and how it has evolved so much and even today continues to evolve.

Bernard King wasn’t a 3pt shooter whatsoever. Whereas Carmelo shoots about 2 3’s a game.

like many sf’s in the 80’s, bernard king played like a pf. He was all about pst ups and and the mid range game. Very few sf’s in the 80’s were great ball handlers or 3 point shooters. that is one of the elements of the game evolving.

I said they had similar games in the way that they were able to score in a variety of ways, both being pure scorers, okay so Melo shoots two 3s a game what does that have to do with his game being similar to Bernard King’s? And yes King did shoot threes you are acting like he has never taken a three pointer in his career, please if your going to make a solid argument at least make read my post I said the comparisons were for similar games not replications, even if you take away his three point game Melo is still very similar to King.

“stop having a boring tuna, stop having a boring life”.

whenever im comparing lebron to older players a mix of magic and dominique wilkins always come to me. just because of his ferociousness around the basket and his extreme strength. i dont think dr j is really in the same ball park with lebron when it came to those things.

I disagree completely about Dominique and VC. Wilkins was a fierce competitor who always gave his all and displayed true leadership qualities. The only similarity between them is that they were both athletic and were dunk champions.

    Brandon Jennings-Nick Van Exel
    Craig Smith-Jason Caffey
    Channing Frye-Poor man’s Cliff Robinson

I used to think that a young Andre Miller was Rod Strickland like and while Miller has been solid he never really panned out that way.
