I’m not familiar with the american law regarding sports, but would it be possible for the players(or owners) to create another league? not these summer leagues, but something organized, playing in big arenas and making money, that sort of thing.

For the players they could earn some money and show the owners they don’t need them. I’m sure some TV network would buy the rights to the games.

For the owners they could get the players who don’t agree with the NBPA(I’m sure there are a few) and some other guys who weren’t in the league and create a new one.( less likely, cause I don’t think the stars would want to break the strike, so people wouldn’t be interested in watching games, but who knows)

Both sides could gain some leverage in the discussions if they did that, especially the players.

i think in the time it would take to assemble something like that, the negotiations will have worked themselves out

something extreme would have to happen for players to try to make a new league making a new league would take way too long, more players going overseas is probably what will happen if things dont get worked out

it would be very difficult and undesirable decision for both the owners and players to go that route when all they have to do is get something donw between them. The players wont make near the money playing in smaller arenas and not having nba marketing behind them. They would be better off just accepting a lesser deal with the owners. Same for the owners, they wouldnt get the fans and be able to sell comerical slots, ticket prices, tv deals with D’league talent. They would also be better off just accepting a worse deal with the players
