Mr.Knick 32ParticipantSince the 1970’s: Only 2 players has won the MVP award while NOT being on a 1st place team in a division East or West
Micheal Jordan 1987-1988
Moses Malone- 1981-1982So for the past 20 years, all MVP winners have been on the top team in the East and West.

stanford hoopsOne of those stats that don’t Mean much like the no player under 21 winning the scoring title or something like that. He’s the front runner for the award as far as the public is concerned. I say lebron because he might put up a triple double this year and if he does that it’s a landslide

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI only put this up because I only see 6 legit MVP candidate this season.
James, Wade, Howard, Kobe, Durant, Paul ( if healthy)

bernardmerrillParticipantIf Durant doesn’t win it this year, he’ll win it eventually. If the stat you said is true, than I don’t see it being an issue for the Thunder to be the top team in the west in the forseeable future. They’re an up and coming team making progress every year, and are surrounding Durant with a solid nucleus to compete for very long time. Not to mention, most of the west is getting worse. The Spurs have already fallen off. Kobe is 32, and his best years are behind him, and I think the Lakers age will start to show in a couple of years. It looks like Carmelo is headed east, and there really isn’t a team comparable to the Thunder regarding having AS BRIGHT of future as they do. (I suppose u can make an argument for the Blazers, but i don’t think Brandon Roy is a franchise player, and isn’t on Durant’s level, so that automatically gives Oklahoma city the nod in that discussion) I can see Durant winning multiple MVPs, and it being a back and forth, every other year situation with Lebron, like it was with Bird and Magic back in the 80s.

McWinningParticipantNot true.
Steve Nash won the mvp the year when Stoudemire only played 3 games and they finished in second, or third, in their conference, if the Thunder can get the second seed (wide open to me) and he puts up great numbers he has a great chance

kaceyParticipantYour statement of “So for the past 20 years, all MVP winners have been on the top team in the East and West,” is incorrect.
The stat line was: since 1970 all but two MVP winners haven’t been on a team that won their DIVISION, disregard that they won or didn’t win their conference.
For example, Tim Duncan won the MVP in 2001-2002, yet the Kings had the best record in the Western Conference.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantThe Thunder’s future looks VERY bright, but remember.. so did the Trailblazers future about 2 years ago.

HitsterParticipantKevin Durant has the game to become an MVP in due course as the Miami players will contest with each other and he is 10 years younger than Kobe so will have many more chances. Dwight Howard will also be in the MVP mix and CP3 can get in the mix if he is on a team that is a top 2 or 3 team in a Conference.
I always find it strange that Shaq only won one MVP ( okay MJ dominated his early years) and it took Kobe until 2008 to win it and he has only won it once. Some voters may look favourably at Kobe again if the Lakers remain a 55 to 60 win team as with LeBron already being a double MVP then Kobe certainly would merit another win before his career ends. He has 4 years left on his Lakers deal but the likes of LeBron, Durant, Howard may have another 10 or so shots at MVP each.

McWinningParticipantYeah but for the trailblazers i still think their future looks very bright if they can stay healthy.
remember the tied for second place in the west as the youngest team in the league, and their a much better team than they were then.
