Mr. JewboyParticipantFirst of all I wanted to share something interesing I found out about Chris Paul. He has exactly the same PPG and APG as a Hornet and has a Clipper- 18.7 & 9.9. That says a lot about consistency and dominance in my book-because he is always the one that dictates the offense.
I remember when he came into the league I thought he was just great and very special, and that he’s gonna be succesful. Was almost the youngest MVP ever and got pretty far while leading his team at just 22 years old. But for a while now he has been on a good team that keeps putting pieces around him and getting him veteran guys, and he just cant seem to get them over the hump, so I’m not willing to call him an all time great or rank him as one of the best PGs ever, although he is already top 10 in career assists and almost in steals as well.
What do you guys think about him? Where would you rank him all time? And what would you rather have-him or the ‘new’ point guard that is basically score first e.g Curry, Kyrie, Westbrook, Lillard..

he_gets_bucketsParticipantDefinitely an all-time great imo. One of the best two way players ever, and one of the best floor generals ever. All whilst being extremely efficient. Amazing assist/turnover ratios, flirting with 50/40/90 most years. I dont like some of his acting antics, but everyone has their flaws.
In regards to him not getting his teams over the hump- its true hes had some good teams, this years Clippers being one, but while theyre good they always have fatal flaws. Theyve never been able to find a good 3 man and with the way the league is currently made up, with a great deal of amazing wing players, you need a good two way 3. Not only that but outside of CP and Deandre they dont have any other plus defenders on that team. Reddick and Blake are both turnstiles. Mbah a Moute is an okay defender but you can only play him in spot minutes because hes anemic on offense. Blake and CP3 just aren’t a championship winning combo unless you have a great supporting cast, and theyre playing Austin Rivers 30 minutes a night. but the Clippers have just held on to it through CPs prime because realistically they didnt have a much better shot at a chip then if they had all things click. Even then theyve had 2 postseasons derailedby injuries to Blake and CP3.
Regardless of all that, even if the Clippers havent made much postseason noise, they are still one of the scariest puts for any team come pplayoff time, and CPs amazing consistency throughout his career of excellent play guarantees him a hall of fame spot and a spot i. history as one of the best point guards to ever do it.

EspressoParticipantI will never forget how they let Harden-led-Houston make a 3-1 comeback.
Like Nash, CP3 is one of the best shooters ever and statistics prove all that. Cp3 might still be the best mid range shooter on paper in the league to this day, I’m not sure, but he usually led this category by a fair margin if I’m not mistaken, even with shooters like Klay, kyrie, curry, kd and all others hitting their prime.
In reality, CP3 and Nash are amazing shooters not only because they are amazing shooters, but because they score as a result of picking their spots for entire games, yo-yoing and picking apart the defense with their all-time ball handling until they eventually manage to break the D down and score easy buckets. With that said, neither of them is an actual go-to scorer with the shot clock winding down. They are not scorers in the iso albeit what numbers say about Chris Paul being one of the better players late games.
This is just my opinion and feel free to disagree, one thing I can confidently say is that I’m not hating on CP3 or Nash. Nash-led-Suns were one of my favorite teams of all times aside from any Heat team, but unfortunately they always lacked a go to scorer.
My thing with playmaking PGs is, late on the shot clock in a playoff game, they for the most part remain ball dominant and keep distributing the ball to lesser talent players who are not willing/capable to shine in the spotlight of big games. In the other hand you have scoring PG who will find their own shot as the best player and shot creator on the team, which leads to double teams resulting in easy buckets for the lesser talents players on his team.
Maybe I’m nitpicking, but that’s how I feel about CP3, he needs a go-to scorer that’s not Jamal Crawford.
Matter fact, why do you think a lot times the Clippers use to let Crawford have the ball late in the clock?????? With Paul priming and being "the deadliest players on mid range pull ups on paper"? BINGO.
