RUDEBOY_ParticipantYesterday the Grizzlies picked up the 4th year options on guard OJ Mayo & forward Darrell Arthur and the 3rd year option on center Hasheem Thabeet..But declined to exercise the 3rd year option on forward DeMarre Carroll’s contract..Making him an unrestricted free agent next summer…
I traveled to Memphis alot last season to watch the Grizzlies play..And wasn’t impress with Carroll’s game..But i remember seeing him play at Mizzou and thought he’ll be a nice energy player off the bench..But since he’s been with the Grizzlies he looks confused whenever he’s on the court..I told a friend i doubt he’ll be in the league in 5 years..He’s a tweener too small to play in the post and not skilled enough to play the wing..he has a unusual offensive game,he’s a poor shooter and have trouble creating his own plays..The Grizzlies were fooled into thinking Carroll would become a great defender by seeing him play in the hectic defensive schemes at Mizzou….Carroll struggled in summer league this summer, and said afterwards that’ he needs alot of improvement if he wants to stick in this league”…Carrol says he just have to regain his confidence…

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantIf it was me and I had him
I’d lock him in the room with 3 notebooks and unlimited tape of Jerome Williams, Jerome Kersey, Sam Perkins and Buck Williams.
I like him as a energy guy. Just grab boards, get defensive and give me 6 fouls. He could be alright in the L.

kanyedabestParticipanti was stunned when he was picked in the 1st round…..the guy is a great energy player but doesnt have nba talent or skill level period. i figured late 2nd round he would get picked. agree totally w/ rudeboy he wont be in the league for 5 years.

JNixonParticipantAll he is is Renaldo Balkman 2.0. That’s all he’s ever been. I would certainly wouldn’t be surprised if he was out of the NBA by his 3rd year or so…

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI don’t think noone remembers this but
On this site’s mock draft leading up to the actual draft, this pick was revealed and even Aran wrote, if this is the pick the GM needs to be fired.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantHe played well during the NCAA Tournament, showing great energy & hustle ..Thats what fooled the Grizzlies into taking him in the 1st round….

JNixonParticipantYeah him and Leo Lyons were great that year at Mizzou. They beat Tyreke Evans and a bunch of scouts were there watching that game. Carroll was impressive in that game against Evans

JoeWolf1It’s pretty obvious a healthy Darrell Arthur is much better than Carroll, but I don’t think he’s done in the league this soon, his offensive game is much less effective in the NBA, but his defense and athleticism still make him relevant and worth another shot. I doubt he is in Memphis after this year, but he has enough for someone else to give him another shot.

JNixonParticipantDarrell Arthur might be a 12th man journeyman in a year or so too…

JoeWolf1You think? I know it’s early, but he’s doing a very good job of filling in for Randolph. He had 19 pts in the Grizz’s first game 14 in their second and has 18 points in the 3rd quarter tonight. His offensive ability and sufficient rebounding numbers will give him a place in the league for a few more years.
I personally think, when healthy, he can be a sufficient fill in starter or solid post offense off the bench in a 6th or 7th man role.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantIf you remember Darrell Arthur was considered a late lottery pick, after his sophomore year at Kansas..Alot of people liked his upside…They were comparing him to McDyess..
But he fell to a late 1st round pick..I’ve been watching alot of Grizzlies games since he’s been there and always thought he has the talent to be a solid starter in this league..If he stays healthy…

JoeWolf1Yeah, health is his big issue, he’s a very effective post scorer, he’s not a very good rebounder for a power forward, but his value is his good athletic ability and putting up points at a good shooting percentage. Even when Randolph comes back I think he’s a 10 ppg 4 rpg scorer off the bench. Unless he gets seriously hurt again I think his status is pretty safe and he isn’t even close to being a 12th man in the NBA.

JNixonParticipantLol, nope I meant Arthur. If he’s your 6th man, that really means you have a severe lack of depth. Darrell Arthur isn’t that good at all. He’s also nowhere near as good as a pre-injury Antonio McDyess. Whoever compared those 2 should probably quit their job and find other work. He’s a back-end rotation player on a good team.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantAlot of scouts compared him to McDyess..McDyess was a better rebounder..But i remember Dumars making that comparison before the draft..
I think you’re underestimating Arthur..If he’s healthy he can be a solid starter….His problem like alot of young players is they sometimes lose focus…
