Before you die of laughter. (Even I had a hard time typing that – especially living in Charlotte)

Upon reading this article, I got to thinking…

If the Pistons – currently with the 8th pick – slide back a spot to the 9th pick – that would become Charlotte’s. Along with 2 more picks (currently 24th & 46th on the site). So, can the Bobcats/Hornets actually make a splash in the draft??? (Something they have NEVER done)

As we know the Bobcats have had a pretty abysmal tenure in the NBA since their existence. (One season over .500, Worst all-time record for an 82 game season, 0-4 record for all-time playoffs, poor drafting, etc.)

Funny thing is that things are now starting to look up. After the conscience decision to sign Big Al in the offseason – the Bobcats forfeited their chances at the Wiggins/Parker sweepstakes. A decision I personally hated at the time but now I’m starting to believe, if just a little.

Hypothetically, lets say the Bobcats fight for a 6th seed in the playoffs. That gives them a CHANCE to fight to the next round. Already that would be a huge success for the franchise, but what’s totally unexpected is that after sacrificing the lottery for a winning team – they could still have 2 first round picks including a top 10 pick!

How ironic: When they were god awful they had a few draft mishaps + bad luck. (Anthony Davis, Biyombo, MKG & Zeller doubts, etc) But now that things have turned around they have a chance to possibly pull off their best draft yet and add 3 pieces to a playoff team.

Not thinking of the Bobcats specific personal here, lets just imagine the possibilities of adding the 9th, 24th, & 46th pick to a playoff team:

    9th: Harris/McDermott/Warren/Lavine/Early/Hood/Gordon/Anderson

    24th: Young/Cauley-Stein/Stauskas/Adams/Fair

    46th: (If available ofcourse) Hairston/Kane/Russ Smith/Eljim

I know all of this is kinda in the Pistons hands at this point, but I’m still dumbfounded at how all of this is transpiring!

    Thoughts?

It is definitely exciting. Plus MKG, Biyombo and Zeller are all so young and each very have high potential, so if one of them breaks out in the playoffs or next season, BONUS.

I think they should ditch McBob as he is more of a very nice role player for a contender than a building block for a young team (one of the best passing bigs, does the little things), and start Zeller or Biyombo in hopes that one of them have a breakout year. I realize that playing such raw players could have been a backbreaker for them this year trying to make the playoffs, but going forward I think they should utilize their young talent in order to inprove from within.

i think their foundation next year will be made up of:

    pg – kemba, sg – henderson, c – jefferson

with bench of neal, mgk, taylor, biyombo, zeller, mcroberts with mgk and one of the bigs starting (as an option).

i like them going mcdermott, hood or warren in that order with the #9.  mcdermott would be the floor spacer to compliment big al and kemba.  hood has floor spacing ability and adds athleticism.  warren would be last because of his lack of a consistent jumper.  all would be a great offensive/defensive sub with mgk.

with the latter, i would say their first hope would be payne.  he’d be a nice compliment with his offensive abilities.  if he weren’t around, pg would be an option with christon, burton or napier.  or maybe go the euro route with micic or capela to fill their pg/pf need and let one of them play a year overseas.

as far as 2nd rounder, sean kilpatrick would be my first choice.  guy can shoot and score in multiple ways.  cory jefferson (who probably will be gone) would be a great addition as he’s shown a lot of growth on the offensive end.  lastly would be deandre kane because of his ability to play either guard spot and my guess is whoever gets him, gets a role player that can hog minutes right away.

If they get #9, I most certainly see MJ taking Levine, unfortunately since I would like to see him end up in Atl. Charlotte has the frontcourt locked up with young potentials (Zeller, Biyombo, MKG) and supposedly have their pg in Walker. A high risk high reward sg in Levine makes sense since Henderson can man the starting sg spot until Levine is ready. Also, Levine brings that high flying excitement that Charlotte lacks #sales

They don’t have the worst 82 game record ever that still belongs to the sixers(poor sixers). They do however have the worst single season winning percentage of all time during the lock out shortened season. Just a heads up. This team could use some shooting. Also Zeller and Biyombo need to develop some. One of those guys needs to develop into a starter. I’m thinking an athletic wing that can shoot would be nice. Henderson is ok but I mean another guy that can get his own shot. I’m not sure Zach Lavine is that guy. I wouldn’t be mad if they took him but wherever they draft they should go BPA. They need some assets and they need to develop those assets.
