BallerScriptParticipantHoops Rumours –
- The Wolves seem to be growing impatient with Ricky Rubio as their point guard and may be grooming rookie Tyus Jones to take his place, writes Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe. Jones, who was acquired in a draft-night trade with the Cavaliers, would fit into Minnesota’s young core that includes Andrew Wiggins,Karl-Anthony Towns, Zach LaVine, Gorgui Dieng, and Shabazz Muhammad. “We’ve got a lot of young guys who are talented,” Jones said. “We’ve got a good group of veterans who are going to help us learn. The good thing about us is the young guys are willing to learn and ready to learn and don’t think they know it all, so it’s a good mixture.”
With this being said what teams do you think could be potential landing spots for Ricky Rubio and what is he worth?

trelos6ParticipantRubio is only 24 and is slated to earn $12.7 mil this season. I think he is an average player at best. Not sure what the Wolves can get for him, but they might package him and Pekovic/Martin:
PG: Jones
SG: LaVine/Muhammad
SF: Wiggins/Rudez
PF: Towns/Payne/Bennett
C: Dieng/Garnett
Maybe they can package him to the Jazz for Lyles. Jazz are looking to push into the top 8 in the west and Burke is rubbish. Exum is injured.

JR RyderParticipantI think the Wolves would be foolish not to give Rubio another year and see how he runs this current team with all its athlete. They’ve already invested so much time on grooming him, plus I dont see Tyus Jones ceiling being better than Rubio’s current level.

TRC1991ParticipantRicky Rubio’s inability to develop a jump shot will hamper his career and prevent him from being a superstar

markfitz14ParticipantWith this team he just needs to create plays which he is good at. So he doesn’t need to be an all star wit Wiggins and Towns on the team. Just needs to take another step forward and become better. But his jump will prbly never be much better, he is just not a good shooter.

sitlbitoParticipantThey’d be foolish to let him go,it would be losing time on the rebuild. I’m not saying he’s the point guard of the future, well I don’t kow,but in the short term,he’s making this team much better. It’s that simple, they go from bad to at least average with him on the floor, especially defensively.

ThepessimestParticipant….has produced. I remember 1 year with Kevin Love the Wolves were on their way to the playoffs until…..Rubio got hurt. So I don’t doubt his ability to play; flaws and all. I question his ability to stay healthy.
Rubio is the kind of player who is not a cornerstone to your team but man when he’s around good players does he make everyone look even better. He is a nat defensively and sees the floor extremely well. His flaws are that he isn’t a great shooter but I will repeat; my issue with him is that he is always hurt…not that he can’t play.
Be careful trading this guy especially if he goes to a good team.
With all that said I would understand if Rubio gets hurt again if they moved him. I like the kid…..

phila9012ParticipantKind of like Rondo with the celtics, if you surround him with scorers he is great but if you surround him with bad players he will look really bad. I think in a year or two once the young guys improve improve and rubio becomes an average three point shooter he will be a borderline all star. He just needs to stay healthy and he will be fine

mcgee555ParticipantRubio, just because he doesn’t fill it up as a scorer, is often dismissed as an incapable point guard. In truth, his ability to generate steals without getting out of position and assist despite having little scoring around him is extremely valuable. Beyond that, anyone who watches the Wolves on a somewhat consistent basis can attest to the fact that they flat out look a lot better with Rubio on the floor. His contract isn’t the best, but looks a lot better with the rising cap and some of the comparitive deals from this summer.
Also, everything I have seen and heard reguarding Tyus Jones this summer has suggested that the only way he isn’t in the D-League the entire season is if injuries happen (very likely) or if he stays up for public relations reasons. You would have to search high and low to find a Wolves fan that thinks he will be able to start or even play big bench minutes this year.
As talent develops around Rubio I think people will begin to realize how valuable the things he brings are. Tyus, at least as of now, looks like he will need at least a year or two to adjust to the NBA before he could even be considered as a long term replacement for Rubio.

bumbleb33ParticipantTyus will never be a replacement for Rubio. I’m not saying rubio is a super good but tyus is just too small and dosent have the athleticism or defense to make up for it

RUDEBOY_Participantif he can stay healthy his old school style of playmaking is exactly what that young team needs……some say he’s overrated, maybe they say that becuz he’s not a deep shooter like curry, have the scoring talents like kyrie or the amazing athleticism of westbrook..but his impact on the t wolves on offense & the defensive ends hardly ever gets talked about…..
when he’s off the floor the t wolves offense drops 4 points..and opponents offensive rating jumps 10 points…….
if the t wolves put him on the trading block over half the teams in the league will be after him..even teams with all star pgs….

WarblingSpamalopeParticipantI think it’s funny the article is coming from the Boston Globe. Right now he is viewed as a toxic asset so why would the wolves deal him now. Tyus Jones isn’t even close to being the future. We’ve never seen Rubio make it through a season to evaluate him. I don’t think flip is making any rash decisions no matter how bored you are waiting for the season to start

Rip255Why doesn’t Utah offer to Absorb his contract for a trade exception and future first rounder.
They got the cap space.
