don042488ParticipantThe Orlando Magic took a chance on a raw athletic big man, from Atlanta, in Dwight Howard, over a recognized collegiate stud in Emeka Okafor, who just came off winning the 2004 NCAA championship…Forward 8 years later, and Dwight is a superstar, while Okafor is nothing less than a role player, who has got traded around 3 times now…Ant

B-ball fanParticipantWhy would Davis and Drummond be any more likely to turn out like Howard and Okafor than any other two highly touted draft picks. Davis isn’t really a similar player to Okafor and Drummond isn’t that similar to Howard. The fact that Davis’ was an elite college player while Drummond was just fairly good is not a bad sign for Davis. Sure, if Davis doesn’t pan out and Drummond does, you could make that comparison based on circumstance, but I don’t think it is likely at all to pan out that way. Davis will most likely be the superior player of the two. He is the significantly superior player right now and he has perhaps even more room to grow. Drummond has better physical tools than Davis, and just about all big men, but Davis has the start of an elite NBA skill set on both ends of the floor.

IndianaBasketballParticipantAre you trying to say Davis will be Okafor and Drummond will be Howard?
I think both situations are very different… Okafor was a three year player from UCONN who had very little upside, while Davis showed dominance at times as a freshman leading his team to the championship.

sheltwon3ParticipantI understand the comparison but Drummonds could either Okafor or Howard and Davis is like neither.
I think a better question is do you consider Drummonds more Howard or Okafor. If you think he more Howard than he should go number 2 to a Davis who could be KG like.
I would take KG over Howard because KG was more skilled than Howard is right now in his first few seasons. I remember his rookie year and KG had a game where he had like 7 blocks and 7 steals I think he also had 7 rebounds too and score in double figures in limited minutes.

WolfRobParticipantDavis compared to Okafor?
Fail.

rhamnlacsonParticipantdavis is already a young garnett and drummond is still a project though he has the potential to be a dwight howard it may take drummond 2-3 yrs down the road to reach his potential while anthony davis could mke an immidiate impact on any team in the nba and he is in a already good situation to make an impact with the hornets drummond still needs to be agressive just like perry jones he is a high risk high reward player and he may turn out to be the greatest thing that will ever happen to a team that will draft drummond or he might turn out into a bust we wont know till he plays in the nba

rhamnlacsonParticipanthey we wont know anyways till we see them play in the nba

HaleParticipantI think all he’s trying to say is what if the "sure thing" gets surpassed exponentially by the "project". It’s not like it’s impossible, and I’m fairly certain he isn’t comparing them as players.

Beard13ParticipantOkafor was considered a defensive anchor coming out of uconn; however there were concerns with his health i believe he had a back injury. Davis is a defensive presence but his ceiling is way higher than okafor davis is only 19 okafor was 21 or 22 when he entered the draft. That 2004 was a weak draft in terms or prospects from what i remember there was no clear cut #1 pick

Lebron’s HairlineParticipantBoth Davis and Drummond have high upside trob and Davis is more okafor/Dwight trob is more nba ready to bang in the post but doesn’t have alot of upside while Davis has a ton of potential

don042488ParticipantThat is exactly the point I’m trying to make

cabbycabParticipantOrland did not take a chance as Howard was a clear number one on everybody’s board. Drummond, on the other hand, would be a huge risk. In fact, I think he has a relatively high chance of being a bust. He is a freak for sure, but my gut tells me he will be more Chris Wilcox and less Amare.

WolfRobParticipantI just think its a bad comparison.
