Yesterday on ESPNU they were showing the Findlay Prep vs. St. Patrick’s game, and it was hard for me to form an opinion on some of the prospects in that game. At times, it didn’t seem like Kyrie Irving was doing much, and a few times it looked like Cory Joseph was gonna dominate the game. But when he decided to take over, Joseph nor Nick Johnson could keep Irving out of the paint. Here’s what I got out of that game:

Irving: Not always playing up to his abilities, but when the team needs it the most, he steps up his game. GREAT in the clutch. Could be one of the next big point guards

Joseph: Great scorer with range. Loves playing defense and guarding the opposite team’s best player, but can get over excited at times. Also good in the clutch

Thompson: Didn’t do so hot in this game, but the game against Montverde, he dominated it with ease. He’s not one of those forwards that thinks he can run the fast break, and continues to run it even when he can’t. He’s very capable of dribbling the length of the court and making the right decision. Reminds me a little of Lamarcus Aldridge with his post and mid-range game

At the moment Cory Joseph is undeniably the more polished player. His shot is money his defense is solid and his leadership is undeniable. Wins everything he does everywhere he goes. is willing to sacrafice everything for wins.

Irving has the better upside and better game suited an elite NBA level. He is a playmaker, and a unique talent. His ball handling is more advanced and he has a great feel for the game. He should get alot of experience and be this years top college PG IMO not Brandon Knight.

The difference in the matter is the programs each player are going to IMO. I think Coach K will propell Irving to different levels and teach him to play to the maximum abillities within him. Cory Joseph will always be a good player but Irving will be slightly better IMO.

Here is the thing thou. It depends what system you are using. I really believe Cory Joseph’s game is suited for a championship team. He plays within the offense knocks down big shots and plays hard d. He is perfect for the Lakers Triangle, or off the bench as a shooter for a Boston Celtics, or Miami Heat Big 3 type team. At the end of the day Irving will be the Deron Williams type guy, but Joseph should be a stat stuffing Derek Fisher type guy.

Irving is way the better player. He’s a better leader and he makes his teammates better. Irving makes even fellow classmates Knight and Selby looking bad.

I havent seen Knight or Selby play as much as I’ve seen Joseph and Irving. Why is Irving so much better than everyone?

Because he’s more of a pure PG. He can score but he has that PG mentality. He looks to get the teammates better and worries about scoring second.

He should be the #1 pick in the NBA draft in 2011.

Irving gets his teammates involved throughout the game but takes over when he has to..I’m not a Joseph fan, or a Tristan Thompson fan (sorry canada)..Joseph is a score first PG he’ a winner though i believe Findlay beat St. Pats on 2 Derrick Gordon (WKU) missed free throws..Legit though Joseph can’t take over the game like Kyrie can im not sure anyone outside of Selby or Knight can take over like Irving can..even then Irving takes over more efficiently then both of them..he doesn’t miss in crunch time (2010 Jordan game)..Irving all day Joseph is nice but he’s not nearly on Kyrie’s level

He isn’t “So much better than them”.
People say Irving is a “pure PG”. Thats the only reason people would rank him higher.
But he is clearly a scorer if you’ve watched alot of his games.

And he wont be the number one pick on that loaded Duke team btw.

Dont worry I’m not a big fan of Tristan Thompson’s game other than the fact that he is Canadian either. To em he is the most overrated freshman, guys like Patrick Young, Fab Melo, and and Adrien Payne have just as much or more upside. Tristan thompson still has to prove alot. Right now he looks like Amir Johnson 2.0.

Although I am very high on Cory Joseph and think he will shock some people. He maybe entering in the Draft with Kabongo set to become the next Canadian long horn. I think If Joseph enters the draft raw enough Toronto could scoop him with the Late Pick given to them by Miami, and if not they should do everything in their power to use that pick and move up.

Kyrie Irving is better, especially in terms of long-term potential. Joseph has much less upside, and isn’t as much of a playmaker as Irving is.

Joseph is like a D.J. Augustin, a narrow PG who’s quick, smart, has a nice shot, and lacks NBA-level athleticism. Kyrie Irving has the potential to be the next Chris Paul, as he’s quick and can be an outstanding scorer and playmaker at the same time. Irving’s potential is on another level than Joseph’s.

Knight is a beast guys reminds me of a more athletic billups, strong has range that is unreal. On his team he was forced to score but he does have real pg skills.

at best case i think Cory Joseph could be similar player to Stephen Curry
