Yeah, the Grizz are just 3 steps away in my opinion in becoming a very good team for years to come.

If Thabeet can just become the defensive monster that he is supposed to be than that team will be good…..and especially if they keep Gasol to play the 4….that’s a pretty good YOUNG starting 5….

I was thinking they would wait to give Conley an extension..With Marc Gasol & ZBo being free agents next summer ..Can they afford to pay all 5 of those guys?

Seems let ZBO is the odd man out..And i think he’s their most important player,not their best player..

Now this year Conley’s been playing well for a couple of games and they immediately throw a big contract at him… c’mon now. They should have played the waiting game and let him become a restricted free agent. If another team decides to spend 9 million a year on him they still could match it. Now with his new contract and security, there’s a chance Conley’s production could drop off again.

With Conley and Gay renewed this year and Gasol and Z-Bo out of contract next year and Mayo available top be renewed next summer then I’d agree someone will have to miss out unless they cripple the cap long term. Mayo’s renewal would surely be at least $50 million over 5 years and Marc Gasol as a double double big man could attract more than that. Z-Bo has been a model citizen at Memphis as far as I can see and if he has another 20/10 year then he can rightly expect a good offer and would probably push for a 5 year deal. Memphis may look to resign him but on not more than a 3 year deal as that would cover the last two years of Thabeet’s rookie deal and then in the last year of his deal Z-Bo would be tradeable.

People don’t give Conley enough credit. He’s improved every single season. It’s good to know Memphis sees how good he can be going forward.

He’s gotten bigger and stronger, which was something that hurt him his first two seasons. He’s improved his three-point shot and overall shooting. He’s become a more confident player. He’s made a HUGE improvement in understanding when to shoot and pass.

Of course it’s a gamble to give him that contract but it was the right one imo. He looked very solid late last season and early this season. They have to keep their young core together and hope that they develop into a strong team. They have good young starters and a bench packed with young players who obv have the talent, they just have to work and hope.

This is really a shocker to me by far, when he was on the block almost the whole offseason. I still think they should take a player like Brandon Knight if he’s available in June.
