valentineWhich NCAA programs are on the rise. Also..which are on the fall.
I think Cal and LSU are getting great recruits.
I also saw that LSU is having a Kentucky Style draft combine as well.
I wonder if they’ll fudge the stats like Kentucky did. Jokes aside….seems smart.
You think every GM in the NBA isnt gonna want a sneak preview at Simmons.
But these combines could be the kind of thing that sneaks a fringe pro from obscurity, to a late 2nd round pick. Huge difference when aiming for those 4-star type recruits that programs love.

ChewyParticipantRise:
LSU- obviously because of this freshman class, but does the high recuiting gets continue after this year or did people just want to play with Simmons in his one year at the school?
MSU- Izzo is riding another final four apperance to get some high level commitments.
FSU- Quietly building consistently successful teams year after year. They get overlooked sometimes in the high powered ACC, but their defense is always fun to watch.
Danger:
Wisconsin- Can they continue their style of play after Bo leaves?
Wichita State- Same question. We saw how Butler fell back down to earth after Stevens left.
Falling:
Flordia- Obviously there are big question marks after Donovan left. I know his last season there wasn’t great, but he still brought them 2 championships.
Kansas State- Webber had Foster who averaged 20 ppg in the B12 as a Freshman and a lot of defensive minded players to surround him. They should have been top 3-4 in the league and then they imploded big time. I see this program going nowhere under Webber.

SkalAndJamalParticipantTexas – Shaka Smart + elite recruits + Huge budget.
Boise State – they got their PG of the future with Paris Austin. Quietly will be a top 25 team this year. Great coaching staff. They really know their identity and how to develop individual talent. 1-5 always can shoot.
SEC overall, Alabama, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt.
Alabama – A lot of the same positives that Texas has. Avery might need 1-3 years to get this team elite however.
Texas A&M – This upcoming recruiting class is so talented but will likely stay together and grow and no one go pro early.
Vanderbilt – Quietly becoming a Big man U. Remember the name D’jery Baptiste.

ph90702Boise State is in trouble this year. They lost their best player in Derrick Marks, and he created the looks for the other players.

providencefriars1ParticipantFor this season Louisville is going to be worse than people expect.. Going to be a double digit seed
Missouri has totally collapsed and is not getting the talent they were a few years ago
UNLV gets the big recruits, but they don’t look like a NCAA tourney team this year and Dave Rice’s job is in jeopardy
USC, Penn St, Creighton, Memphis also have to show some progress this year
Oregon St, Georgia, and Miami will be better than people expect this year too

TRC1991ParticipantGeorgia Tech…they have a lot of talent on this year’s roster.
Vanderbilt
Purdue
Texas A & M
Washington – you seen our recruits for this year and next?!

barbabodomParticipantLooking outside the big players, Harvard is rising and will put a top25 recruiting class. And the Ivy League teams, in overall, are landing good prospects. Columbia (with Maodo Lo, played well for Germany in the Euro), Yale and Dartmouth already have set teams and Brown is recruiting some interesting players.

ncballerAs a UNC fan, I think the light at the end of our mediocre years is just around the corner. Despite the university academic stuff, and off the court issues with Hairston and McDonald, Roy is somehow putting out a preseason top 3 team. With recruiting, we snagged a college stud in Tony Bradleu and I expect Brandon Robinson to commit to us on Monday. We are in great shape with Lauri Markkenon and Seventh Woods. We could possibly snag Rawle Alkins as well (although he is a longer shot) and I believe we have our one and done stud in Jalek Felton for 2017 which will help nip in the bud the perception that UNC can’t produce one and dones.
Im done with my homer post now.

rich.homie.mitchParticipantA program that I think won’t do very good this year is Ohio State.
On the Rise- Maryland, UCLA, Marquette
Decline- Wisconsin, VCU

IlladelphParticipantAuburn is defintiely on the rise with Bruce Pearl. He’s a great recruiter. He recently landed Mustapha Heron.
I think Auburn is only going to get better and better in the next 3-5 years. Wouldn’t be surprised if Auburn becomes a sweet 16 threat every year under Pearl.

YungmUNyParticipantI’m surprised no one has mentioned Wake Forest. They’ve made some decent progress under Danny Manning. They’ll be returning five of the six top scorers from last season and will bring in two four-star recruits. Considering how bad Wake has been in recent memory, I’d consider a potential NCAA tournament season from them to be a huge achievement and a giant step in the right direction.

ncballerI keep hearing that if Giles decides no against Duke then he is WFU bound. It is a bigger possibility than the experts realize.

YungmUNyParticipantI was actually just looking at their roster before you posted that. They look set good in the future (which I get is the point of this thread), but this could be a rough season. They lost a ton and don’t have much continuity. They do have some older players just because they’re bringing in two mid-major transfers, but they’re pretty green across the board aside from that. Doesn’t Chris Obekpa have to sit out next season? If Zimmerman stays around, that could really set them up for a hell of a 2016-17 season with Zimmerman, Morgan, Jones, Obekpa, and the two four-star Canadians all being viable NBA prospects.

ph90702They were 18-15 last season. Last season was their rough season. They do have some continuity. They return Patrick McCaw, Jordan Cornish, Goodluck Okonoboh, and Dwayne Morgan. All four of them got plenty of experience last year. Jerome Seagears and Ben Carter are eligible this year after sitting out and practicing with the team last year. They also added Zimmerman and Nwamu who should both be able to contribute a lot this season. I predict that they’ll win 23-24 games in the regular season next year, make the NCAA Tournament, and win their opening round game.
Also, I agree with you that they’ll be really good in 2016-17.

TarHeelRavenParticipantGiles to Wake would be MASSIVE for Danny Manning. Wake Forest has been stuck in mediocrity since the 09 team with Jeff Teague. Man, they have been bad. Lawrence Joel is a tough place to play, and when that place is rocking it is loud there. I went to see Carolina at Wake in 2001 at Lawrence Joel when Curry, Peppers and Forte were there. That is a loud arena. I can see Danny Manning turning that program around. Wake Forest is a top notch academic school and the town is basketball crazy.

ph90702I don’t know what Danny Manning can sell him that Coach K can’t. Therefore, I think he’s a Duke lock.

ncballerBeing the undisputed number one option and being 100% featured. He could put up some monster numbers over in Winston-Salem. At Duke you have Tatum, Jackson, Allen likely back, Kennard, etc who may be taking away his touches. In recruiting you always gotta pay attention to the one school who is not like the others.
Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky and…Wake Forest. Which school does he get the most touches at?
I too think Duke is leading from everything I am hearing, but Wake Forest is right behind them at the moment. To say that Coach K can offer him all that Manning can is just going off of the name.

ph90702Harry Giles will start if he goes to Duke. He may put up smaller numbers at Duke, but it really doesn’t matter. Karl-Anthony Towns went #1 overall, and he barely played more than 20 minutes per game.

B-dizzle97ParticipantA team I believe is on the rise is Purdue. They struck gold this year when Caleb Swannigan decided to go there. In doing so he formed one of the best starting front courts in the nation with A.J. Hammons. They also have a great coach in Matt Painter. If Caleb can prove that a top recruit can succeed at Purdue, they could start pulling in some big name recruits from the Midwest.
