Both head coaching positions are available for Charlotte and Orlando and both have a number of people pursuing the job. If you were able to take either one which would it be.

At first glance Orlando might seem the better option by leagues, however, is it really that good? While you will have an older player core and a superstar in Howard (providing he stays), I believe there are some deep rooted issues with the Magic that may be overlooked. It has been awhile since any real player changes have been made, and there is the chance that they are set to decline with an aging roster. Secondly, there was been controversy with the star player and the franchises operations and coaching, who’s to say that your not the next head on the chopping block. That being said you have an opportunity to coach a winning team that with good moves can become a force.

Charlottes negative are obvious so I won’t go into them too much, but bluntly, they are a very weak team. The coaching job here would reduce the pressure on you immensely. You’ve got a young group who aren’t expected to do well so you can take it easier. Not to so don’t try, but failure and losing are expected. For the ultimate challenge seeker, what’s better than bringing a team from the bottom up. It’s a long project but very fulfilling of you succeed. Also if you have a son he can coach some games here and there ( Silas did that last season).

    What are your thoughts?

With Charlotte you have an opportunity to become a turnaround artist.  If they add 2-3 solid pieces, they could compete for a playoff spot.  They have a capable 1 and a defensive 5 with promise.  If they pick up a solid scorer/rebounder at the 4, a scoring 2 and a defensive 3 (or vice versa), they could be competitive.  And as coach, you’d be the guy that gets the credit for turning around the worst team in NBA history.

With Orlando you’re picking up a team that seems destined to get worse over the next couple of years, a lesser version of picking up the Cavs when LBJ was on his way out the door.

On the other hand, Orlando has a history of putting together decent teams and they give their coach/GM a ton of latitutde (to their detriment sometimes).  With the Cats, you may have less control to call the shots w/MJ being involved.  Still, if I were in the position, I’d go for the Cats.

I think it depends on which coach you’re talking about; take Brian Shaw for example.

Shaw is one of the coaches who might give the triangle a go, and doing so in Charlotte with Mike in charge would be ideal, plus you’d get a chance to put a stamp on the organisation from a young age and be part of the institution. I heard a rumour that Phil Jackson was considering taking a position as GM/President or something of that nature, if Jordan could convince Phil to mentor Shaw that would be a win-win for all involved.

That said, if you’re a veteran coach and want to contend, you go to Orlando to see if you can sell Howard on staying and be a local hero.

If I had that choice I would pick the Bobcats.

Yes they’re bad and going to be so for awhile but they’re WYSIWYG(what you see is what you get). You know what you have to look forward to, and you know improvement is to be had. They’re young and can only get better(right?).

While Orlando is currently the better team, they’re not WYSIWYG at all. They’re a huge wild card, a massive storm of uncertainty. They could be a top 10 team, they could be a bottom 10 team. They just got done firing their coach and GM, and Howard is most likely out the door, who would honestly want to step in and take that job? That’s like career suicide.

Hate to break it to you, but Anthony Davis won’t be wearing a Bobcats jersey next year.  Or probably any other year in the forseeable future.

    easy pick for me

orlando is on a downhill. a team that is build around to complement howard and now is unhappy and on his way out. a system mastered by ron jeremy is hard to replace and now his gone. you know its gonna be a very very bad season full of drama.

with the bobcats.. well, there’s no way to go but UP. we will have losing record but hey we’re used to it, and the fans have something to hope for when we will have a nice young core

I would rather coach the Bobcats.  Andre Drummond and Kemba Walker sound like more fun than dealing with Dwight Howard and the circus down there if you dont make him happy..

While I live in Orlando and think it would be interesting to see if i can turn the city i live in around by being there coach I have to go with Bobcats.  Bobcats are young and it would take me a few years to turn that team into a playoff contender or get close.  If I coached Orlando I would have to pray that the GM would get some solid pieces back for trading off Dwight Howard.

Can’t edit my post for some reason, but I could have sworn you wrote "Anthony Davis" rather than "Andre Drummond."  I even reread your post before posting, and still misread it.  Brain’s not working today, I guess.

I think I would choose Charlotte as well. Can’t resist a ground up project

Orlando does have nice weather and if you have Dwight there then you always have a chance. But Charlotte would be a great challenge and the one I might favour.
