Who’s the Coach of the Year this season?

Gregg Popovich for grabbing the #1 seed with an oft-injured and older line-up?

Doc Rivers for what he was able to do after the All-Star break?

Thibs for what he was able to do without Rose for about 1/3 of the season?

Lionel Hollins for nearly nabbing the 4th seed even though Zach Randolph was injured nearly the entire season?

George Karl for keeping his team in the middle of the playoff race even though he had so many players in and out of that team, playing different line-ups, and so many injuries? (Nene, Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Al Harrington, Rudy Fernandez, JaVale McGee)

Frank Vogel grabbing a top-3 seed in the East and staying consistent the entire season.  It’s obvious the Pacers are outplaying themselves and their expectations this season.

I really don’t see anyone but the following winning:

1. Gregg Popovich (like TOL said, for winning a ton with a a trio of old guys…and no Rajon Rondo)

2. Thibodeau (like TOL said, Winning W/o Rose)

3. Vogel (he’s done nothing but win since he arrived and, unlike any of these other guys, he has little as far as star power goes-a true reflection of good coaching)

I understand Popovich had a huge impact this year,  He’ll he does every year and imo has been the best coach in the league for quite sometime.  That being said, he has had the luxury of having an unreal big 3 who have had years upon years of experience together (not many coaches can say that).  All 3 are great leaders and they are perfectly compatible with eachother.  He played out this season perfectly thus far, but there is a ton of talent, experience, and leadership he gets to work with. 

For that reason I think I have to go with Thibs.  The bulls and sixers had the best team chemistry this season imo.  Playing so well, for so long, with the spark of the offense, and the leader of the squad in D-Rose, really shows what a great job Thibs did.  The bulls didn’t score a ton of points, but they consistently found ways to win.  I attribute a ton of that to TT.

My 2nd choice is Vogel.  What he has done with that Pacers squad, so early in George’s career, is quite impressive.

personally i’d have to go with Pops. Thibs is a close second. but the Bulls were expected to pull a top 2 seed. I cant see anyone predicting the Spurs grabbing the top seed in the west and lookin as good as they currently do. i still cant stand to watch their games (tho they are less boring) but they are indeed legit.

 Its obviously Pops…nobody thought the Spurs would be this good, they got the #1 seed in the west…he gets the most out of his players, and teaches his young players how to play the right way…Vogel would be second, i wouldnt mind if he got it, but Pops got it locked IMO

Steve Van Gundy for being able to put up with drama queen Dwight Howard for an entire season without landing in a mental institution. That takes some serious fortitude.

This is such a fallacy! I don’t think it’s because he’s winning with Duncan and Manu getting up in there in age, but because of the young players on that team that are playing so well. Danny Green, DeJuan Blair, Gary Neal, Kawhi Leonard, Thiago Splitter, and Patty Mills have all had great years, and none of those guys have been in the league for that long. Pop wins this, and it’s not even close

I don’t see Thibs winning for the simple fact that no coach has yet to win COY two years in a row ever, though he had the Bulls winning majority of their games without their star player.

I gotta go with Pop, but his lineup was not oft-injured. Other than the Manu injury and some problems to Tiago, they’ve been relatively healthy, although we all knew what they were capable of with a healthy Manu.

for me is between pop and thibs. no vogel, no rivers.

now, i hate to give it to the coach based on the past, but thibs has 1 coach of the year already, as well as pop. i don’t think thibs deserve more coach of the year awards than pop.

with that said, i’ll take pop

 I’ll admit my biasism for Thibs, but take Rose off that team the whole season and have C.J. Watson with John Lucas as the backup and I wonder if people still predict them as a top 3 seed before the season. I could see some maybe ranking them that high but I would guess analysts would rank them more towards a 5-6. For that reason I take Thibs. Although, I believe it’s very close.

His line up has not been injured because of coaching, no one averages more than 32 min a game. Young guys like Danny Green and Gary Neal wouldnt get a shot without Pop. I really think this is a no brainer. He has completely changed his coaching strategy to fit this years team and its working. Theyre tied for the best record in the league with Manu playing just barely over half the season. Yes they have talent, but they certainly dont have as much talent as other West powerhouses like the Thunder, Lakers, or Clippers, yet theyre in first. Indiana has had a big turnaround but they have a very talented, deep, athletic, well rounded roster. I think it’s gotta go to Popovich this year.

My arguement for Pop: He’s transformed the team from an defensive one to the best offensive one.  Everyone thought they’d slide this year and they have the best record in the NBA.  He’s ressurected numerous guys careers and reinvigorated others.  He missed Manu for a large chunk of time.  He’s managed the minutes of the shortened season better than anyone.  And really, it’s utterly preposterous that he has only 1 CotY award.
