UNCbasketballbumParticipantCoach K will most likely not return as men’s senior national team coach in 2016. Who should replace him? Should Jerry Colangelo go with a young up and coming coach such as Brad Stevens or Shaka Smart? How about hall of famer Roy Williams with his 2 national titles at UNC, or an NBA coach such as Popovich, Doc Rivers or Erik Spoelstra? What do you guys think?

WolfRobParticipantI’m so confused on why people think he’s a good coach… Please don’t put him in charge of the olympics.

WolfRobParticipantIf Popovich is willing to sacrafice all of that time, I don’t know if you can find is a better coach. What he has done this year with the spurs is unbelievable, that being said I don’t see him doing it. It’s a hell of a time commitment and I don’t think he has the time. I could maybe see them going after someone like Tom Creen.
Scott Brooks would be my choice.

akhan786ParticipantI’ve heard rumblings of Doug Collins.

akhan786ParticipantI doubt that they even consider Roy, Stevens, or Shaka. Doug Collins has actually reciporcated interest as well and is good friends with Coach K.
I just got to say Coach K and Colangelo have done an amazing job in reenergizing USA basketball.
They’ve truly made it "cool" again to represent your country and they’ve done a lot behind the scenes to make sure that their recent success is sustained in the coming years even if Coach K steps down.
Their next hire has to be a coach that can coach the x’s and o’s very well and have the respect around the league to make some of the stars join the team (and to make them listen) which were the very reasons why the chose Coach K. I’m sure he’ll have a large part to do with the hiring of his replacement and will be involved as a consultant for the coming years.

fliptonnParticipantPop or Thibs do it. You need a guy that coaches team not individuals. Pop knows the European game and Thib would kill iy on defense. It would be really fun to see Phil Jackson do it though thats obviously very far fetched. If they’re gonna go with a college team i would go with Bill Self or Tom Izzo. Coach K was perfect for the job though.

omphalosParticipantBrad Stevens would be perfect in my opinion. He’s done a great job of getting less talented players to buy in and be competitive, just imagine what he could do with NBA talent. Also, he’s young, and wouldn’t have any biases for/against particular NBA players, having never coached them.

torontoraptors10ParticipantI seriously think Doc Rivers will be a serious candidate for the job
