Beasley is a freaking idiot. True there is a good amount of players who smoke weed, but to be riding around with it in ur possession and speeding is just down right dumb. I dont understand why players are willing to risk Millions just to smoke weed. We see it in the NFL and NBA where these players are just addicted to weed and dont care about losing money. You can take a man out the hood, but you cant take the hood out the man.

I agree with Jlv on this one? It is the first of few times, because he is a complete dick, but I think this is really not that big of a deal. Surprises me not one bit, and Beasley should just try too be smarter with where he decides to speed and carry weed.

Please don’t arrest me for saying Beasley would have a better career than Rose, it wasn’t my fault, Jay Bilas influenced me when he was raving about his wingspan, please don’t hurt me!

This is truly sad though. But Jlv and Mikey V are right, so many players smoke weed and do drugs and stuff. I live here in the bay area, and my biggest fear was that Stephen Jackson didn’t get arrested for murder or drugs or somthing like that. And if you ask me Lincecum is probably high 4 days out of 5. Just sayin.

He’d got 16 grams with him apparently, okay it’s the off season but don’t the NBA have drug testing policy which can give hefty bans for using "recreational" drugs.

Looking back on the Birdman Andersen suspension which was for a different offence it said :-

Marijuana penalties are a $25,000 fine (2nd offense), a five-game suspension (3rd offense), a 10-game suspension (4th offense), and five additional games for each subsequent violation.

Also regardless of bans/fines etc would any team he likely to really want to sign a known drug user given sponsorships which could be an issue as some big companies do not touch anyone like that apart from Beasley being unlikely to be a popular choice with any possible personal sponsors etc. Plus when the Team USA players are at the Olympics for example they must be likely to have to ubmit to random drug tests so anyone like Beasley would not be near that team as any positive test could cost the whole team their potential gold medals.

Ahh, I would love for stanford hoops to see this.  After a huge debate we had about Beasley, he had practically sworn Beasley had changed his attitude and work ethic and he was a potential 22ppg, 7rpg guy this year and still was a franchise guy.

@NJHooper: With all due respect that is an incredibly ignorant statement that NBA and NFL players are blowing millions getting "addicted" to weed.  There are no addictive qualities in weed, THC is harmless, and even the smoke has little to no effect on the lungs.  NFL players destroy their bodies playing so of course they smoke weed to help them relax and relieve pain.  Beasley is an idiot despite these charges this just adds to it.  But he won’t be blowing millions with it.

With all due respect,First of all, Ignorant is not associated with me. Secondly you need to read more closely. I said, " I dont understand why NFL and NBA players are willing to risk millions to smoke weed. Thats means, I think it is stupid to risk their careers in which they are making millions, by getting release, locked up, or blackballed from their sport by smoking weed. I never said they are blowing millions on weed. But rather, by smoking weed and getting caught they are risking and losing millions.

No i know what you meant, and the case of getting blackballed and labeled as having "character issues" or losing endorsement deals are very legitimate reasons.  I thought you were implying that they are destroying their bodies by it.  I didn’t mean they were blowing millions on weed.

The issue, sadly, isn’t even the fact that he was caught with weed, which the use of is probably and unfortunately prevalent in today’s NBA, but the fact that his millionaire ass with 24 hrs a day of free time actually managed to get caught. Seriously, was he gonna roll one while cruising at 90? What an idiot

The guy makes for an interesting topic. On one hand you could say where would the Bulls be now if they had drafted him instead of Rose? You might also be looking at a team of Rose, Wade, Lebron and Bosh in Miami if that was also the case.

So many people were like why draft Williams when you have Beasley, etc? Dude is a headcase. I’m not sure Williams has the raw talent as Beasley, but he seems to have a more level head. Ron Artest has done some kooky things, but at least people at one point could say this guy gives you 16-20 points a game and shuts down the teams best offensive player. With Beasley you see glimpses, but the guy is inconsistent on both ends and is very inefficient.

Minnesota fans…I feel sorry for you. You guys worked hard to get his value up and he decides to do something like this to make it go back down. I know a lot of you guys say a lot of athletes smoke weed. I have no clue who or how many do, but it doesn’t help when it’s out in public like this and he’s a repeat offender. He’s had enough issues in the offseason, less everyone forgets about when he seemed suicidal in Miami. People also forget that Lamar Odom had some marijuana issues and that he was a big gamble to take on after coming from the Clippers. From what I remember it was to the point that if he had another drug run in that he would have faced a punishment similiar to what Birdman got.

With the lockout in play and players not having a time table it’ll be interesting to see who stays sharp and who start to get themselves in trouble with all this newfound free time on their hands.  And once the season starts we’ll see who stayed in shape and who let themselves go.  I think Beasley was gona be getting in trouble either way.

Guys, I critisize Kahn just as much as the next guy, and rarely say he did a good job, but getting Beasley for a raw updeveloped 2nd round player was a great move. I bet you if you called all the GMs with cap room, all of them would take two protected 2s for Beasley. This man has a world of talent. Even if he never realizes his full potential, he will still get you 16 and 6. I just hope the man turns it around, but you can’t put the blame on Kahn for this one.

Well, if he didn’t take on Beasley, than they would not have been able to get Miller, and to be quite honest, I would take Beasley over Miller. With that said, I still like the move for Miami, because we saw with James Jones, any shooter would thrive, and that’s ecactly what they hope Miller will be next season.
