Your the GM of the Cleveland Cavaliers, you have the 4th pick in the draft. For argument sake, Davis, Drummond, and MGK are all off the board.

Who do you take? I think it comes down to Beal or Barnes. I know Cleveland wanted Barnes last year, but he didn’t come out.

What would you do this year?

If I were them I would also look at Thomas Robinson.   I know they already have Tristan Thompson, but T Rob has lots of talent and could be a very good power forward for the future.  If they can play TT and T Rob at the same time that would be great.

At the very least you would have a very nice 3 big man core of Robinson, Varejao, and Tristan Thompson.

I think T Rob has the potential to be a better power forward than Harrison Barnes can be at small forward.  I don’t see Barnes on that Elite small forward level of LBJ, and Durant, or Melo and Paul Pierce.  Not sure his upside is even as good as Granger, Gay, or Deng.  So do they go with a guy who might turn into the 8th best small forward, or do they go with T-Rob who can mix size, strength, and athleticism and would be a great pick and roll guy with Kyrie Irving?

What they should really do is draft Thomas Robinson and sign Eric Gordon.  That would give the Cavs a Big Three of Irving, T Rob, and Gordon.  With TT and Vareajo as their inside role players. They would then have their backcourt set for the future as well as their big men core down low.  Then next year they could add a small forward to that group.  Or use their second round pick on a guy like Darius Miller who could turn into a solid role player on the next level.  But I really like a Kyrie Irving, Eric Gordon, and Thomas Robinson Big Three with TT as their 4th young core guy.  Andy could then play with either of their young big men.  For their second round pick or for next year’s first rounder, ideally they can get a Kawhi Leonard type or a younger version of Shane Battier or Thabo Sefolosha.  Then pick up a 6th man player like Manu or Harden.  So address one of those issues this year, and the other one next year.  First thing though, get T Rob and Eric Gordon to finish their Big Three.

I would also take Robinson over Beal or Barnes….I don’t know that cleveland would because of drafting Tristan Thompson but I am not sold on him. I don’t know if he will ever be a guy that puts it together offensively. With TRob you are already getting a pretty decent mid range jumper and some inside scoring as well. He obviously doesn’t have the defensive potential of Thompson but they could possibly move Varejo to a team in need of a defensive center and play TT at center. 2-8 or so seems very close in this draft so it will be very interesting to see how it shakes out.
