OhCanada-ParticipantFirst of all I would like to simply state that Chris Paul is arguably the most modest superstar of our generation. He has MVP skills, MVP leadership and displays great character for a NBA Icon that should make MJ, Bird and Magic proud. He has gone through this trade process without making disgusting media plots and has not carried on unnecessary drama. I am sure that part of CP3’s reasoning to leave New Orleans is because the Hornets Ownership, Management, or Staffing has done him wrong in some way shape in form behind the scenes.
I do not see Chris Paul going to Orlando, New York, or LA in a 2 team deal. The players those 3 teams have to offer are not the type of players New Orleans needs to improve their Roster going forward without Chris Paul. What New Orleans will be looking for is a combination of young players, expiring contracts, future assets and a marketable player. A third team such as Indiana who has a superstar Danny Granger who maybe on the block could potentially be thrown into the mix.
Another misconception is that Chris Paul actually has some choice in the matter. We’ve been watching too much off season wheeling and dealing and forgot THIS IS NOT A S&T WHERE THE GM IS COMPLETLY SCREWED OUT OF ANY VALUE! Also no trade-clauses are very rare in the NBA and Chris Paul does not have one. Even if he says he is not comfortable playing for Minnesota they can still give CP3 an offer, if New Orleans gets their best offer from Minni they will accept Minni’s offer. The most likely Franchise to receive the grace of CP3’s presence is the team that can whip up the best dal and offer the best assets. Here are the teams with the best assets for New Orleans.
Therefore I think the teams with the most available assets that the New Orleans Hornets would need are Portland, Indiana, Memphis, Houston, and Oklahoma. These teams have the best combination of what New Orleans should be looking for, young talented players, expiring contracts for cap-relief, future assets, and marketable players. The “core” players involved for each team without naming your Jerryd Bayless’s or Jordan Hills (young add in players) include…
Aldridge, Oden and Batum for Portland, Granger for Indiana, Mayo and Thabeet for Memphis, New Yorks draft picks Brooks, Ariza and Martin for Houston, and La’s 2011 1st rounder Westbrook, and Green for OKC. All of these teams are “capable” of trading expiring contracts to eat up Okafor’s contract as well. Some like Indiana can also take on Posey. I honestly doubt New York, Orlando or LA can make a better offer than these teams…

jjmass22ParticipantA player will offen deside where he is being traded to by, putting out a acceptable teams list as he’s done, so teams not on that list pretty much stay away because they don’t want a player who is gonna leave after becoming a free agent or a player who is unhappy to be there anymore than the hornets want that. I love Chris Paul and I want him to go to Orlando, but he signed a contract to play with the hornets for two more years so I think he shouldn’t become a distraction, but the other side of the coin, I know a team will trade a player whenever it is a good thing for them so, I guess at the end of the day everyone is only looking out for what’s good 4 them

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantIf I was running the Hornets I would wait until lottery time next season before even considering trading him.
My point being, offer Chris Paul not the Magic or Knicks but to teams with the top few picks in the draft. They could rebuild with John Wall/Evan Turner type talent, “quality future picks” as well as cap relief. They don’t have to forced to send him to a “ready made team” just because he demands it. The Hornets should go for the best deal for their franchise, not Chris Paul. When players would try this sort of thing in the past, it would get them sent to the Clippers.
Paul could refuse to sign with whatever team trades for him but my guess is that many teams would still try and trade for with hopes of talking him into staying. There will not be 8 – 10 teams to choose from every year with max contracts to offer like this summer. His choices probably would not be nearly as attractive as LeBron’s were.0 - AuthorPosts
